  • Publication number: 20120037331
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for guiding and orienting a strand (5) in a continuous casting facility for large-sized round sections made of steel or a similar material. In order to prevent the formation of cracks while the strand is oriented, the outer surface (15) of the strand is heated from above and from below inside the orienting track. For this purpose, porous burners (10, 17) are arranged in the discharge section of the directing track, the hot gas emitted from said burners flowing entirely around the outer surface (15) of the strand.

  • Publication number: 20110165564
Abstract: A method for detecting sequence specific methylation in a biomolecule, comprising: (a) contacting the biomolecule with an S-adenosyl-L-methionine-dependent methyltransferase in the presence of a detectable cofactor of said methyltransferase; and (b) detecting whether the recognition sequence of said methyltransferase has been modified with the cofactor or a derivative thereof, wherein modification of the recognition sequence of said methyltransferase is indicative of an absence of methylation at said recognition sequence. Also disclosed is a cofactor specific for S-adenosyl-L-methionine-dependent methyltransferases, wherein said cofactor is an N-adenosylaziridine derivative with a reporter group attached to the 6 or 7 position of the adenine ring or attached to the aziridine ring. A complex of the cofactor and a methyltransferase a composition comprising the cofactor or the complex and the use of the cofactor or the complex for detecting sequence-specific methylation in DNA molecules are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7972830
Abstract: It was found that a fragment of native Thermus aquaticus DNA polymerase (TaqWT) lacking 288 N-terminal amino acids (Taq?288) possesses an increased thermostability over TaqWT, Taq?279, and Taq?289. The present invention therefore provides Taq?288, recombinant expression vectors encoding the same or derivatives thereof, as well as purification protocols for Taq?288. The invention also encompasses kits containing Taq?288 as well as the use of Taq?288 and kits containing Taq?288. In addition, the invention encompasses methods for the sequencing a nucleic acid template and methods for amplifying a target nucleic acid.

  • Publication number: 20110146936
Abstract: An apparatus for starting the casting of a continuous casting system has a mould (2) and a strand guide (10; 10?) comprising drive and guide rollers (11, 12; 11?, 12?). Moreover, a dummy bar (22) that can be introduced into the mould (2) by the strand guide (10; 10?) and be withdrawn from said mould is provided. A safety device (20; 20?) for the dummy bar (22) has an element (25) that can be engaged, with form fit, with the dummy bar (22) and limiting the speed of the cold bar (22). It is thus guaranteed that a predetermined maximum strand speed can not be exceeded and that the dummy bar does not slide through.

  • Patent number: 7887615
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for producing nitrogen fertilizer from organic waste products in the liquid phase (suspension, emulsion, solution) and for hygienizing the wastes or reducing the emissions by thermal treatment using mineral or organic additions. According to the invention, this is achieved by a method, wherein the waste product is heated at underpressure to temperatures between 40 and 90° C., the escaping gas containing carbon dioxide and ammonia is cooled down and introduced into an aqueous absorption agent, the nitrogen fertilizer formed thereby is discharged and the excess gas not having been absorbed and containing carbon dioxide is pumped back into the discharge container, wherein the underpressure generated at the beginning of the process by a vacuum pump is autogenously maintained by the progress of the process.

  • Publication number: 20100132909
Abstract: In a system for sealing a dummy bar head in a mould of a continuous casting plant for casting large-format preliminary sections, a flat gasket (6) to seal the gap between the dummy bar head and the mould is provided, which is held on a packing plate (7) contained on the dummy bar head. Said packing plate has approximately the cross-sectional shape of the mould profile and covers the flat gasket (6). The packing plate (7) is displaceable towards the centre of the mould by an amount which is a function of the conicity of the mould (3). To this end, it consists of two plate halves (7a, 7b) lying in one plane with respect to each other. This makes it possible, when inserting the dummy bar head, to compensate for the angled course of the mould with the contracting packing plate until the sealing gap between packing plate and mould remains uniform on all sides.

  • Publication number: 20100111416
Abstract: A device for determining an edge histogram of an image based on information about a gradient strength and a gradient direction of a local gradient in an image content of a partial image of the image includes an allocator which is implemented to allocate the information about the gradient strength and the gradient direction based on an allocation regulation to an edge image in order to obtain edge type information. The allocation regulation is selected such that with a predetermined gradient direction at least three different allocated edge types exist mirroring the different gradient strengths. The device further includes an edge histogram determiner which is implemented to determine the edge histogram based on the edge type information so that in the edge type histogram at least three edge types having different allocated gradient strengths may be differentiated.
