  • Publication number: 20070297674
Abstract: An image processing method is described that allows a user to manipulate regions of interest (ROIs) in a mask based image. The user defines a stretch vector for example by ‘clicking and dragging’ a mouse pointer and an algorithm deforms the ROI according to a roll-off function that avoids the non-smooth edge effects seen in prior art techniques such as paintbrushes.

  • Publication number: 20070244563
Abstract: Various embodiments of the present invention relate to an apparatus and method for reverse shoulder arthroplasty (e.g., reverse total shoulder arthroplasty). In one specific example, a glenoid component used to resurface the scapula may be provided. Of note, unlike traditional total shoulder arthroplasty the glenoid component in a reverse shoulder is convex rather than concave; it acts as a physical stop to prevent the superior migration of the humeral head—a typical occurrence in patients suffering from rotator cuff tear arthropathy (CTA).

  • Publication number: 20070156296
Abstract: A flight information communication system has a plurality of RF direct sequence spread spectrum ground data links that link respective aircraft-resident subsystems, in each of which a copy of its flight performance data is stored, with airport-located subsystems. The airport-located subsystems are coupled by way communication paths, such as land line telephone links, to a remote flight operations control center. At the flight operations control center, flight performance data downlinked from plural aircraft parked at different airports is analyzed. In addition, the flight control center may be employed to direct the uploading of in-flight data files, such as audio, video and navigation files from the airport-located subsystems to the aircraft.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and method to obtain bone fixation. More particularly, one embodiment of the present invention relates to a mechanism for achieving bone “through-growth” in a variety of orthopaedic applications. In one example (which example is intended to be illustrative and not restrictive), a prosthesis designed to achieve bone “through-growth” via one or more “windows” in a peg or keel structure may be provided (bone graft may be inserted into the peg or keel structure). In one specific example (which example is intended to be illustrative and not restrictive), a glenoid prosthesis (and associated method) may be used to resurface the scapula. In another specific example, the present invention may be used in the context of a partial or total shoulder arthroplasty.

  • Publication number: 20070028471
Abstract: A method for correcting a vehicle compass measurement for an interfering magnetic field generated by a vehicle accessory, where the interfering magnetic field has an intensity sufficient to cause a compass measurement error, includes monitoring the operation of the vehicle accessory and detecting a characteristic of operation of the vehicle accessory. A measurement or timing signal is then generated based on the characteristic of operation. A magnetic field for direction is measured in response to the measurement signal and an offset or correction value is determined based at least one the measured magnetic field and the characteristic of operation of the vehicle accessory.

  • Publication number: 20050065734
Abstract: A technique for assessing the progression of multilateral dysfunction, e.g. bilateral diseases is described. The process consists of two stages: firstly, a ‘health measure’ is computed for each of the features of the multi-lateral dysfunction. One example is in terms of the progression of Parkinson's disease by applying it to the uptake of imaging agent in the two striata of the brain, which can be viewed using SPECT imaging. In this example, a characteristic graph for each striatum is matched to a family of such graphs in order to quantify the state of each striatum as a health measure. Then the lower health measure is plotted against the higher health measure. This point is then projected onto a previously computed disease progression trajectory which is used to assign a percentage to the progression of the disease, from 0% normal to 100% extreme progression of the disease. In addition to the disease progression percentage, the technique also provides a confidence measure of the accuracy of this estimation.

  • Publication number: 20030199810
Abstract: A method for producing a device for piercing a body surface is disclosed. A sheet (200) is provided having opposite first and second faces. A plurality of microprojections (304) and openings (302) are formed through the first and second faces of the sheet (200). The first face of the sheet (200) is positioned adjacent a die (402) having a plurality of cavities (404) corresponding to the plurality of microprojections (304) of the sheet (200) in such a way that each of the microprojections (304) of the sheet (200) is positioned adjacent a corresponding cavity (404) of the die (402). An elastomeric material (410) is then forced against a second face of the sheet (200) and into the cavities (404) of the die (402) to deflect the microprojections (304) of the sheet (200) into the cavities (404) of the die (402).
