Publication number: 20050065734Abstract: A technique for assessing the progression of multilateral dysfunction, e.g. bilateral diseases is described. The process consists of two stages: firstly, a ‘health measure’ is computed for each of the features of the multi-lateral dysfunction. One example is in terms of the progression of Parkinson's disease by applying it to the uptake of imaging agent in the two striata of the brain, which can be viewed using SPECT imaging. In this example, a characteristic graph for each striatum is matched to a family of such graphs in order to quantify the state of each striatum as a health measure. Then the lower health measure is plotted against the higher health measure. This point is then projected onto a previously computed disease progression trajectory which is used to assign a percentage to the progression of the disease, from 0% normal to 100% extreme progression of the disease. In addition to the disease progression percentage, the technique also provides a confidence measure of the accuracy of this estimation.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 19, 2004Publication date: March 24, 2005Applicant: Mirada Solutions LimitedInventors: Jerome Declerck, Thomas Wright, Robert McLaughlin

Publication number: 20030199810Abstract: A method for producing a device for piercing a body surface is disclosed. A sheet (200) is provided having opposite first and second faces. A plurality of microprojections (304) and openings (302) are formed through the first and second faces of the sheet (200). The first face of the sheet (200) is positioned adjacent a die (402) having a plurality of cavities (404) corresponding to the plurality of microprojections (304) of the sheet (200) in such a way that each of the microprojections (304) of the sheet (200) is positioned adjacent a corresponding cavity (404) of the die (402). An elastomeric material (410) is then forced against a second face of the sheet (200) and into the cavities (404) of the die (402) to deflect the microprojections (304) of the sheet (200) into the cavities (404) of the die (402).Type: ApplicationFiled: November 27, 2002Publication date: October 23, 2003Inventors: Joseph Creagan Trautman, Cedric Thomas Wright, Richard Lamar Keenan, Keith T. Patent number: 5509234Abstract: An operator assembly for a casement window that includes a frame and a pane carrying sash. The operator assembly is mounted to the frame and an elongated arm connects the operator assembly and the sash. Movement of the arm moves the sash relative to the frame for opening and closing the window. The operator arm includes a pivotally mounted and linerally moveable handle which is moveable between a first and second position. A ratchet-type gearing system is provided to connect the handle and operator arm and to effect movement of the operator arm in response to movement of the handle. A selector associated with the handle and gearing system is provided to effect and control the direction of sash movement in response to the movements by the handle. A locking system is provided to engage the gearing system to prevent movement of the gearing system due to loads on the sash that are transmitted to the gearing system through the sash and operator arm.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 1994Date of Patent: April 23, 1996Assignee: SNE Enterprises, Inc.Inventors: David J. Patent number: 4154093Abstract: A method and apparatus for measuring the viscoelastic characteristics of a sample of a viscous liquid or gel contained within a closed can or other cylindrical vessel. The can and sample are subjected to torsional oscillation about a vertical axis by an oscillation source through an elastic coupling member, the oscillation source operating either (i) at a fixed, predetermined frequency or (ii) at the resonant frequency of the can and sample. Measurements are made of the amplitude of oscillation of the can and sample and of either (i) the angular phase difference between the oscillation of the can and sample and those of the source or (ii) the resonant frequency of the can and sample. The measured data may be used either to compare the sample with a standard material or to calculate viscoelastic moduli of the sample.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 1978Date of Patent: May 15, 1979Assignee: Imperial Chemical Industries LimitedInventors: Norman D. Patent number: 4012772Abstract: Sequential/interlace scan conversion of NTSC or PAL color television signals is effected by an encoder the output of which is connected to the input of scan conversion apparatus. Controllable phase shift means is included in either the color signal input or the subcarrier input of the encoder and is adapted to vary the phase of the modulated subcarrier for each line of the received color signal by an essentially integral number of quarter cycles in dependence upon the line number. The control is such that the conversion apparatus provides an encoded output signal with the color subcarrier in PAL or NTSC format. The invention can also be used in converting between different types of interlace systems.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1975Date of Patent: March 15, 1977Assignees: The Marconi Company Limited, Standard Telephone & Cables LimitedInventors: John Philip Chambers, Derek Thomas Wright
