  • Patent number: 9302557
Abstract: A fifth wheel includes a top plate having a throat that is adapted to receive a kingpin of a trailer. The fifth wheel is equipped with a locking mechanism including a jaw slidably connected to the top plate and slidable between a closed position where the jaw blocks passage of a kingpin out of the throat of the fifth wheel and an open position where a kingpin may pass into and out of the throat of the fifth wheel. The jaw has an edge adapted to engage a kingpin positioned in the throat of the fifth wheel when the jaw is in the closed position. A release arm is pivotally attached to the top plate and the jaw. A trigger member is pivotally attached to the release arm and has a locking head. A main spring urges the jaw towards the closed position. A locking protrusion is attached to the top plate and is engaged by the locking head of the trigger member when the jaw is in the open position so as to prevent the jaw from moving into the closed position.

  • Publication number: 20150326945
Abstract: A content server receives live streams from a content distributor to transmit to users of the content server. In one embodiment, the content server promotes the live streams received from the content distributor, by serving portions of the live stream as advertisements (ads) to users of the content server along with videos or digital content requested by the users. The content server buffers the live stream. The content server receives a request for a video from a client device. The content server identifies the video requested by the user and metadata associated with the identified video. The content server, based on the metadata determines whether to serve the client device with a live-stream ad, as a pre-roll ad for example, along with the video requested by the user. The content server then identifies a buffered live-stream ad to transmit to the client device along with the requested video.

  • Publication number: 20150310682
Abstract: An access control system provides authentication and notification. A visitor to a facility, for example, authenticates to the access control system. Once an identity of the visitor is confirmed, the access control system sends a notification to a host, such as an employee. The notification informs the host of the arrival of the visitor.

  • Publication number: 20150296195
Abstract: A method for displaying content between loops of a looping media item is provided herein. The method includes receiving a request for a primary media item and determining that the requested primary media item is a looping media item. The method further includes steps of identifying, by a processing device, a secondary media item for the primary media item and of providing the primary media item and the secondary media item for presentation between loops of the primary media item.

  • Publication number: 20150264292
Abstract: This disclosure generally relates to systems and methods that facilitate transitioning a current playback of a video in a video application to a video widget when the video application is moved to a background of a multitasking operating system in which the video application is executing. The transition occurs seamlessly at a point of the current playback in the video application when the video application is moved to the background. Furthermore, upon the video application being moved to the foreground of the multitasking operating system, current playback of the video in the video widget is seamlessly transitioned to the video application.

  • Publication number: 20150193285
Abstract: The invention provides, in some aspects, a computing device that includes a central processing unit that is coupled to a hardware interface and that executes a native operating system including one or more native runtime environments within which native software applications are executing. A first native software application executing within the one or more native runtime environments defines one or more hosted runtime environments within which hosted software applications are executing. One or more further native software applications (“IO proxies”), each executing within the one or more native runtime environments and each corresponding to a respective one of the one or more hosted software applications, receives the graphics generated by the respective hosted software application and effects writing of those graphics to the video frame buffer for presentation on the display of the computing device.

  • Patent number: 9057118
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method, and apparatus for the recovery of precious metals. Accordingly, it provides a continuous process for obtaining a precious metal composition from a feedstock material, the process comprising the steps of: (i) heating a feedstock material in a plasma furnace to form an upper slag layer and a lower molten metal layer; (ii) removing the slag layer; (iii) removing the molten metal layer; (iv) allowing the removed molten metal layer to solidify; (v) fragmenting the solidified metal layer to form fragments; and (vi) recovering a precious metal composition from the fragments; wherein the feedstock material comprises a precious metal containing material and a collector metal, said collector metal being a metal or an alloy that is capable of forming a solid solution, an alloy or an intermetallic compound with one or more precious metals. This allows for high recovery yields of precious metals.

  • Patent number: 8033177
Abstract: A pressure sensing system positions a microelectromechanical (MEMS) diaphragm of a MEMS pressure sensor die in a housing to indirectly sample pressure state of a fluid being measured. A second housing diaphragm is used to make direct contact with the fluid being measured. Pressure state of the fluid being measured is transferred from the housing diaphragm through an electrically insulating intermediary fluid to the MEMS diaphragm thereby allowing the MEMS pressure sensor die to indirectly sample pressure state of the fluid being measured. Electrically conductive support members and electrically conductive solid vias are used to electrically couple circuitry of the MEMS pressure sensor die to external wires outside the housing.

  • Publication number: 20100196652
Abstract: A quasi-isotropic sandwich structure is provided for resisting loads along multiple axes. The structure includes a core material sandwiched by fiberglass reinforcements. Fiberglass rovings are inserted through the structure such that the rovings are oriented along three axes, with adjacent axes separated by approximately 120°. Machines and methods for forming the structures are also disclosed. In one case, a machine having a single stitch head is reconfigured in each of three passes of the material to form the sandwich structure. In other cases, a machine having three stitch heads is used to form the structure with a single pass of the material. In some embodiments, the machine includes an indexing stitch head oriented at approximately 0° and two stationary stitch heads oriented at approximately ?60° and +60° with respect to the machine direction. In other embodiments, the machine includes three stationary stitch heads oriented at approximately 90°, ?30°, and +30°.

  • Publication number: 20100000280
Abstract: A member has a wave inhibitor adapted to control the effects of a wave of longitudinally displaced material positioned ahead of an expansion mandrel used to expand the member. The wave inhibitor has a decreasing transverse cross-sectional area to diminish the effects attributable to the wave, such as workpiece distortions, material upset of the workpiece, lengthening of the member, and excessively high strains in the workpiece. The wave inhibitor can also induce radially compressive stresses in the workpiece and produce an interference fit.

  • Patent number: 6554846
Abstract: An ablative burr (100) that may be used for a medical procedure, such as an atherectomy, that does not require the user of an elongate flexible drive shaft. The burr comprises a main body (110) that is elastically connected to an abrasive shell member (130). One or more oscillatory driver(s) (150), such as a piezoelectric transducer, is disposed between the shell member and the main body to oscillate the shell with respect to the main body. Elastically compressible members (140, 142) are provided between the shell member and the main body member. The oscillatory drivers are preferably set or tuned to operate at a resonant frequency of the shell member whereby shell member amplitudes larger than the oscillatory driver amplitudes may be induced. Embodiments of longitudinally oscillatory burrs (100, 200) and rotationally oscillatory burrs (300, 400) are disclosed.
