  • Patent number: 5370506
Abstract: A piston type compressor has a plurality of cylinder bores in which a plurality of pistons reciprocate to effect suction, compression and discharge of refrigerant gas in response to rotation of a drive shaft. The compressor has a gas receiving chamber for receiving the refrigerant gas before compression, a discharge chamber for receiving the compressed gas, and at least one rotary valve mounted on the drive shaft to be rotatable with the drive shaft. The rotary valve has a suction passageway for providing fluid communication between the gas receiving chamber and each of the compression chambers formed in the cylinder bores. A groove is provided on the outer circumferential wall of the rotary valve. The groove is connected with the outlet of the suction passageway and extends to a vicinity of the opposing end portions along the outer circumferential wall.

  • Patent number: 5368450
Abstract: A swash plate type compressor comprises a cylinder block having formed therein a compartment accommodating therein a swash plate and a plurality of axial cylinder bores each receiving therein a reciprocally movable double-headed piston. The compressor further comprises a drive shaft having formed therein a discharge passage in communication with front and rear discharge chambers in front and rear housings, respectively, which are fastened to the axial ends of the cylinder block. The drive shaft is supported by a pair of front and rear tapered roller bearings and these two bearings are arranged in such a way that at least part of refrigerant gas discharged into either one of the discharge chambers flows through both of the front and rear bearings so that the bearings are lubricated by oil contained in and entrained by the refrigerant gas.

  • Patent number: 5316447
Abstract: A compressor comprises a cylinder block having cylinder bores formed radially spaced from and circumferentially distributed equidistantly about the cylinder longitudinal axis. Pistons are slidably received in the respective bores for reciprocation therein executing alternately suction and discharge strokes. The compressor also has a discharge valve assembly for controlling discharge of a compressed fluid from each of the bores into a discharge chamber, which assembly is axially movable between a first position in which the assembly is abutted against an end wall of the block and a second position in which the assembly is spaced from the end wall of the block to define a narrow space therebetween to interconnect the bores with each other. When the assembly is pushed toward the second position by the pressure of the compressed fluid during initial running of the compressor, bypass channels interconnect the cylinder with the discharge chamber.

  • Patent number: 5244355
Abstract: A swash plate type compressor includes a cylinder blocks having a crank case which communicates with a suction port and a plurality of bores formed therein. The ends of each bore are covered with a pair of housings. The bores communicate with discharge chambers. A drive shaft is rotatably placed within the cylinder blocks. A swash plate is rotatable in the crank case, and is mounted on the drive shaft. A plurality of pistons are drivably coupled to the swash plate, and are reciprocotable in their respective bores. As the pistons reciprocate, a refrigerant in the crank case is sucked into each bore and is compressed therein. The compressed refrigerant is discharged into the discharge chambers from the bores. A passage for transporting the refrigerant between the discharge chambers is formed along the axis of the drive shaft. Seals are provided between the cylinder blocks and the drive shaft for sealing the gap between the discharge chambers and the crank case.

  • Patent number: 5232349
Abstract: An axial multi-piston compressor comprises a drive shaft, a cylinder block having cylinder bores formed therein and surrounding the drive shaft, and a plurality of pistons slidably received in the cylinder bores, respectively, wherein the pistons are successively reciprocated in the cylinder bores by a rotation of the drive shaft so that a suction stroke and a discharge stroke are alternately executed in each of the cylinder bores. During the suction stroke, a fluid is introduced into the cylinder bore, and during the compression stroke, the introduced fluid is compressed and discharged from the cylinder bore such that a residual part of the compressed fluid is inevitably left in the cylinder bore when the compression stroke is finished.
