  • Patent number: 5873707
Abstract: A control mechanism for a fluid displacement apparatus is disclosed. The control mechanism controls fluid communication between an intemediate pressure chamber and a suction chamber of the fluid displacement apparatus, which has a communication channel extending between the intermediate pressure chamber and the suction chamber. The mechanism includes a first valve element having a cylinder and a piston slidably disposed within the cylinder between positions corresponding to maximum and reduced displacement of the compressor. This movement defines a maximum amplitude of the compressor. The cylinder has a bottom wall seperating the cylinder chamber from the suction chamber. A hole is formed in a wall between the cylinder chamber and the intermediate pressure chamber. A distance between the bottom wall and the hole is designed to be greater than the maximum amplitude to prevent the piston from striking the bottom wall.

  • Patent number: 5846869
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a bipolar transistor having an improved polysilicon emitter is disclosed. More specifically, hydrogen terminations or OH group terminations adhered (bonded) to an emitter-forming region are eliminated by a heat treatment in an inert gas atmosphere before forming emitter polysilicon. Abstract: The present invention provides a polycrystalline silicon conducting structure (e.g., a resistor) whose resistance value is controlled, and can be less variable and less dependent on temperature with respect to any resistant value, and a process of producing the same. Use is made of at least a two-layer structure including a first polycrystalline silicon layer of large crystal grain size and a second polycrystalline silicon layer of small crystal grain size, and the first polycrystalline silicon layer has a positive temperature dependence of resistance while the second polycrystalline layer has a negative temperature dependence of resistance, or vice versa. Moreover, the polycrystalline silicon layer of large grain size can be formed by high dose ion implantation and annealing, or by depositing the layers by chemical vapor deposition at different temperatures so as to form large-grain and small-grain layers.

  • Patent number: 5133232
Abstract: A control system for an automatic transmission includes a torque converter having input and output members through which driving power is transmitted. A lock-up clutch is provided in the torque converter for connecting the input and output members without intervention of hydraulic fluid. A multiple stage transmission gear mechanism is connected with the output member of the torque converter and has a plurality of shift gear stages. A shift control device shifts the shift gear stage in accordance with a vehicle operating condition. An engaging force control device controls an engaging force of the lock-up clutch in a manner such that a slip rate of the lock-up clutch is changed. Finally, an acceleration judging device judges a required acceleration, and the engaging force control device reduces the engaging force as the required acceleration is increasd.

  • Patent number: 5072630
Abstract: A control system for a vehicle, including an automatic transmission provided with a multiple transmission gear mechanism, automatically establishes a specific gear stage of a speed ratio from among a plurality of gear stages in accordance with an vehicle operatiing condition. A shift control signal producing device produces a shift control signal in order to produce a shift operation between different gear stages in accordance with the vehicle operating condition. An engine output control device reduces an engine output in synchronism with the shift operation so as to suppress a torque shock due to the shift operation. A detecting device detects a specific vehicle operating condition in which a change in a time lag between a generation of the shift control signal and an actual initiation of the shift operation in the transmission is greater than a predetermined level and produces a signal denoting the specific vehicle operating condition.

  • Patent number: 5054766
Abstract: A paper positioning device having a paper positioning member which is pivotable in abutment against one edge of a paper sheet loaded on a receptacle for moving the paper sheet to a positioning position for thereby positioning the paper sheet. By a simple mechanism and control, the movement of the paper positioning member is slowed down at the positioning position and accelerated until the positioning member reachines it. The paper positioning member performs a pivoting movement twice while a drive shaft associated therewith performs a reciprocating movement once. The device is, therefore, no only durable but also positions paper sheets efficiently and positively without damaging the paper sheets.

  • Patent number: 5024430
Abstract: A paper handling apparatus having a plurality of bins and a chuck unit and a stapler which are movable along the bins and causing the stapler to bind an end portion of a stack of paper sheets which have been received from a copier or similar image forming apparatus, sorted, and then loaded on any one of the bins. The chuck unit has an upper and a lower chuck. After the stapler has bound a stack of paper sheets a push bar independent of the chucks of the chuck unit pushes the end of the stack to return it into the bin. Both the upper and lower chucks are movable up and down. The force which the chucks exert on a stack of paper sheets is controlled in matching relation to the thickness of the stack.

  • Patent number: 5012695
Abstract: A gear-shifting shock suppressing system for a vehicle provided with an automatic transmission which shifted to a desired gear-speed on the basis of a gear-shifting signal controls the output of the engine of the vehicle in order to suppress gear-shifting shock which occurs when the automatic transmission shifts. The gear-shifting shock suppressing system detects the interval between successive two gear-shifting signals and controls the output of the engine when the interval between successive two gear-shifting signals is longer than the predetermined time in a manner different from the manner in which the gear-shifting shock suppressing system controls the output of the engine when the interval between successive two gear-shifting signals is shorter than the predetermined time.

  • Patent number: 4993283
Abstract: An engine control system for a vehicle provided with an automatic transmission including an engine output control device for reducing an engine output in response to a shift operation of the automatic transmission, brake switch for detecting a braking operation of the vehicle, a restricting element for restricting the engine output control device from reducing the engine output when the braking operation is detected during the shift operation. The engine output is not reduced when the braking operation occurs even under the shift operation so that an undue drop of engine speed can be avoided. The engine speed can be smoothly increased after the braking operation responsive to acceleration operation to thereby improve the controllability.

  • Patent number: 4783743
Abstract: In an automatic transmission control system, completion of gear-shifting is detected on the basis of both the rate of change in rotational speed of the output shaft of the torque converter and the rotational speed at which the output shaft of the torque converter is expected to rotate. That is, a rotational speed range within which the rotational speed of the output shaft of the torque converter is expected to fall upon completion of the gear-shifting is determined taking into account the rotational speed of the output shaft of the torque converter upon initiation of the gear-shifting and the gear ratio, and it is determined that the gear-shifting is completed when the rotational speed of the output shaft of the torque converter falls within the predetermined rotational speed range and the rate of change in rotational speed of the output shaft of the torque converter is reduced below a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 4665777
Abstract: A vehicle automatic transmission having a torque converter and a multiple-stage gear mechanism. When the vehicle is stopped and the shift lever is moved from the N-range to the D-range, the gear mechanism is at first shifted up to the highest gear stage and, when the converter turbine speed is decreased to a very low value, for example 200 rpm, the gear mechanism is shifted down to the first stage. If the vehicle brake is engaged and the engine is idling, the highest gear stage is maintained even after the converter turbine speed is decreased below the aforementioned value.
