  • Patent number: 5382712
Abstract: High quality bisphenol A is produced from a neutral crystalline adduct of bisphenol A and phenol by fusing the adduct in an atmosphere having a maximum oxygen content of 0.005% by volume, followed by evaporation of liberated phenol. The crystalline adduct may be mixed with an aliphatic carboxylic acid before the fusion to reduce the coloring of the product. When an acidic crystalline adduct is used, the use of a strong alkali salt of an aliphatic carboxylic acid is suitably used. Interior surfaces of the apparatuses for carrying out the fusion and evaporation are desirably washed with an organic solvent to remove oxygen therefrom. The evaporation of phenol is suitably performed by two stage steam stripping wherein a used stripping gas obtained in the second stage is employed as a stripping gas in the first stage while steam is used as the stripping gas in the second stage.

  • Patent number: 5355301
Abstract: To improve high frequency characteristics of a transformer in a switching power supply device and to reduce its size, the switching power supply device is formed of a voltage converting section in a thin-film laminated structure, a single semiconductor chip and a wiring layer situated between the voltage converting section and the single semiconductor chip. All the active elements including switching elements and voltage controlling sections are incorporated into the semiconductor chip and are connected to the voltage converting section through the wiring layer. To reduce the effects other than inductance of the electrical components, a thin film transformer is formed of a spiral-shaped primary coil and secondary coil formed on a substrate. The primary and secondary coils are arranged so that phases of forming cycles in the radial direction are different to have a staggered relation. Accordingly, the capacity of the parasitic capacitors between the primary coil and the secondary coil is very small.

  • Patent number: 5231444
Abstract: A camera system and a rear conversion lens both of which accurately calculate the distance .DELTA.X a focusing lens moves when the rear conversion lens is interposed between an interchangeable lens and the camera body, even when the distance .DELTA.Bf an image surface of the focusing lens shifts, increases, so that a subject can be focused quickly.A factor K.sub.0 for converting the distance the image surface of an interchangeable lens shifts and a factor C.sub.0 for correcting the conversion factor K.sub.0 are stored, and the magnification .beta.c and the focal length fc of the rear conversion lens are also stored independently of the above two factors. The distance .DELTA.X is calculated with precision. The subject can thus be automatically focused smoothly and quickly.

  • Patent number: 4472649
Abstract: A brushless rotary machine such as a brushless motor or a brushless generator is provided with first and second shafts. A rotor is fixed to the first shaft and rotated with the rotation of the first shaft, and magnetized when the rotor is fed with DC current. AC generator is mounted to the second shaft and generates AC current with rotation of the second shaft. The first and second shafts are separated and coupled to each other by a coupling mechanism having a space between the first and second shafts. In the space is provided a rectifier which is electrically coupled with the AC generator and the rotor, rectifies AC current generated by the AC generator into DC current and supplies the DC current to the rotor, thereby to magnetize the rotor.

  • Patent number: 4349513
Abstract: A process for recovering uranium and/or thorium from a liquid containing uranium and/or thorium is disclosed, which comprises capturing the uranium and/or thorium in the liquid by an amorphous silica precipitate formed by adding water glass to the liquid, making the captured uranium and/or thorium eluted from the precipitate by acid-treatment, recovering the eluted uranium and/or thorium as an acidic solution, and regenerating the precipitate to water glass by use of an alkali metal hydroxide solution. Thus, the uranium and/or thorium can be recovered in high yield and the amorphous silica precipitate, that is, a formed radioactive solid waste can be remarkably reduced.
