  • Publication number: 20160203710
Abstract: A remote control device includes a housing and an upper element. The top surface of the upper element can be partitioned to include different frictionally engaging surfaces. At least one frictionally engaging surface can be used as an input surface that receives user inputs such as touch or force inputs. An input device, such as a force sensing switch, can be positioned in the housing and used in determining an amount of force applied to the input surface. The bottom surface of the upper element below the second surface can be affixed to the housing in a manner that permits the input surface to bend based on the applied force.

  • Publication number: 20150332402
Abstract: Methods and a system for providing an annuity having income payments and receipt of a dividend. The method comprises receiving a dividend and having the option to receive the dividend in cash, convert it into an income payment stream, defer a portion of the value of the dividend declared to convert into a future dividend stream, or any combination of the foregoing. A portion of a value of dividends from the annuity can be used to purchase additional income payments. Future dividend payments may be based on additional income payments purchased with dividends. The dividend can be used to purchase additional income payments with a first portion of a value of dividends from the annuity and receive a cash payment with a second portion of the value of the dividends from the annuity. The dividend purchased portion of the income payment may be converted to a non-dividend income payment.

  • Patent number: 8340986
Abstract: Methods and corresponding systems are provided for providing and administering deferred annuities with an annuity reset feature that provide periodic income payments to an annuitant for a term beginning at a start date. The methods include the step or steps of: receiving annuity information for an annuitant; determining at a first date one of a purchase price and an amount of at least one income payment due to the annuitant at the start date. The purchase price or the amount of at least one income payment due the annuitant includes a fee for the annuity reset feature that resets at least one variable of the annuity at a reset date later than the first date if the at least one variable of the annuity at the reset date is more beneficial to the annuitant than at least the first date; and offering the annuity with the reset feature to the annuitant.

  • Publication number: 20120275088
Abstract: Techniques or processes for producing assemblies using adhesives and substrate material, such as glass. In one embodiment, the assemblies may be for portable electronic devices. For example, a cover glass of a portable electronic device may have a first layer of a self-leveling adhesive, which may be adhesively coupled with the cover glass. A second layer of a second adhesive, which may be different than the self-leveling adhesive of the first layer, may be adhesively coupled with the first layer. An optical component may be adhesively coupled with the second layer, so as to secure the optical component. The first layer may be cured prior to securing the optical component, so that the optical component may be substantially isolated from stress effects of adhesive cure shrinkage of the first layer. Flexure, warpage or optical distortion of the optical component due to adhesive cure shrinkage may be substantially avoided.

  • Patent number: 8225928
Abstract: Cases for electronic devices, such as an iPad, are disclosed. The cases include an integrated cleaning component configured to wipe one or more surfaces of an electronic device. In some embodiments, the integrated cleaning component is configured to automatically wipe the surface(s) of the electronic device as it is inserted into or removed from the case. The integrated cleaning component of some embodiments include strips of material configured to engage the surface of the electronic device as it is inserted and/or removed from the case and to wipe or scrub away foreign material. The cleaning component can include various different materials to target primary removal of a particular foreign material (e.g., fingerprints, dirt, dust, oils, etc.). Other embodiments provide integrated storage of the integrated cleaning component, which can easily be removed by a user to wipe the surface(s) of the electronic device.

  • Publication number: 20120173457
Abstract: A computerized method and system for allocating assets among a plurality of financial products for an investor portfolio includes calculating a solution space of financial vehicle combinations by assigning allocations to each financial vehicle in each financial vehicle combination and generating a set of simulations, for each of the vehicle combinations, of a value of the financial vehicle combination. The computerized method and system further includes receiving investor-specific information, the investor-specific information including a retirement objective. The method and system further includes selecting a set of financial vehicle combinations within the solution space based on the received investor-specific information; and allocating assets among the plurality of financial products based on the set of selected financial vehicle combinations and received investor-specific information.

  • Publication number: 20120116193
Abstract: A system for adjusting power employed by a medical device incorporating light emitting devices and being used for measuring patient medical parameters, includes a plurality of light emitting devices. A power unit is coupled to the light emitting devices and powers the light emitting devices responsive to respective control signals which determine power to be applied to the light emitting devices. A control unit for provides the control signals and is coupled to the power unit. The control signals intermittently turn off at least one of the plurality of light emitting devices in a power save mode in response to a determination that a patient medical parameter value measured by the medical device, using an active light emitting device of the plurality of light emitting devices, is at a safe level.
