  • Patent number: 8116837
Abstract: A system for adjusting power employed by a medical device incorporating light emitting devices and being used for measuring patient medical parameters, includes a plurality of light emitting devices. A power unit is coupled to the light emitting devices and powers the light emitting devices responsive to respective control signals which determine power to be applied to the light emitting devices. A control unit for provides the control signals and is coupled to the power unit. The control signals intermittently turn off at least one of the plurality of light emitting devices in a power save mode in response to a determination that a patient medical parameter value measured by the medical device, using an active light emitting device of the plurality of light emitting devices, is at a safe level.

  • Patent number: 7996668
Abstract: A technique for establishing security in a publish/subscribe data processing broker network is presented. The technique includes providing a security extension module from a publisher to a broker of the network, wherein the security extension module is for a topic asset of the publisher. The broker employs the security extension module, responsive to receipt of a request from a subscriber for the topic asset, to authenticate the request at the broker before pushing the topic asset of the publisher to the subscriber. In addition to authenticating the request, the security mode extension can be employed to authorize the request, and to automatically forward messages to the publisher providing information on when topic asset access by a subscriber begins and ends.

  • Patent number: 7981032
Abstract: Some embodiments of the invention provide a system to monitor a patient. In some aspects, a signal representing a value of a physiological parameter is received from a monitoring device. The received value is a value that caused the monitoring device to trigger an alarm associated with the psychological parameter. A notification is determined based on the received signal and on a second signal that represents a value of a second physiological parameter. The notification is then presented to an operator.

  • Patent number: 7945452
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for operating a medical device with a screen having an improved graphical user interface, which selectively reallocates screen display for both single and multi-channel pumps. Channel indicators associate operation information with a specific delivery channel. Patient or drug order verification is facilitated with a rendering of the patient or the entire drug order/label on the screen. Decimal numbers are presented in vertically offset decimal format. A dual function button cancels the current operation and, after a delay, clears entered parameters. An area sensitive scrollbar cycles through information at various speeds. Screen brightness is adjusted based on an ambient light detector. A screen saver mode activates based on several operating conditions. The screen is incorporated in a removable user interface.

  • Patent number: 7895053
Abstract: A medication management system (MMS) includes a medication management unit (MMU) associated with a medical device. The MMU downloads medication delivery code based on a medication delivery order to the medical device only if information from a first input matches information from a second input. The medical device receives delivery information electronically only from the MMU. The medication order is performed only after delivery data validation. The MMU also determines drug-drug incompatibility. The MMU can modulate (start, stop, sequence and dynamically adjust) medication order performance.

  • Patent number: 7450672
Abstract: An apparatus and method for transmitting and receiving a bit stream. On the transmission side, coded bits (Y.sub.t) and an interleaved version of the coded bits (X.sub.t) are separately modulated and transmitted. On the reception side, a priori output probabilities produced by a probability generator (34) are combined (112) and then input to a SISO decoder (111). Combined a posteriori output probabilities (115) produced by the SISO decoder are split (113) and then fed back to the probability generator.
