    Abstract: A temperature fuse assembly for a high-power DC circuit is provided. The temperature fuse assembly includes a case extending from a first case end to a second case end and an isolated lead projecting from the second case end. A bushing electrically isolates the isolated lead from the case. A high-gauge wire is electrically connected to the case at a first wire end and electrically connected to the isolated lead at a second wire end. A portion of the high-gauge wire is helically wound about an exterior of the bushing. When a temperature of the temperature fuse assembly exceeds a threshold temperature, the temperature fuse assembly is configured to conduct a DC current of the high-power DC circuit through the high-gauge wire. The high-gauge wire is configured to melt under a load of the DC current and interrupt the high-power DC circuit.

    Abstract: A four-dimensional (4D) light-detection-and-ranging sensor using frequency modulated continuous wave is provided with an ultra-high velocity resolution. At a transmitting terminal, the hybrid waveform of a driving laser is used to minimize the phase noise generated by a distributed-feedback laser during wavelength scanning. The hybrid waveform is obtained by combining direct-current signal (not modulated) and alternating-current (AC) signal. The AC signal is a predistorted triangle or AC waveform for extracting location. The continuous wave (CW) extracts velocity. At a receiving terminal, a radar radio-frequency receiver is combined with an avalanche photodiode (APD) with multiple layers accumulated in series to obtain excellent responsivity and saturated current. The mixed waveform coordinated with the APD prevents Doppler shift frequency from being contaminated by low-frequency flicker noise.

    Abstract: Photonics has become a dominant or evolving technological solution for communications to meet the increasing demand for bandwidth. Accordingly, photonic communications is moving towards coherent modulation formats to further increase capacity by encoding information in both phase and amplitude of the optical signal. Whilst coherent optical transmitters and coherent optical receivers are more complex than their on-off counterparts leveraging monolithic photonic elements and photonic integrated circuits employing said photonic elements offers a lower cost route for coherent optical components. Further, external modulation, using phase modulators or amplitude modulators or a combination thereof, can increase modulation bandwidth relative to directly modulated lasers for increased data transmission. Novel optical hybrid circuits and external modulators are present which are compatible photonic integrated circuit manufacturing techniques and monolithic integration.
