  • Patent number: 5986419
Abstract: A single phase permanent magnet motor includes a rotor, a stator, and a quadrature axis winding positioned out-of-phase from a main winding of the stator for generating an output signal representative of rotor angular position. An integrator can be coupled to the quadrature axis winding for phase retarding the output signal, and a comparator can be coupled to the integrator for detecting zero crossings of the phase retarded output signal to provide a commutation signal. The quadrature axis winding can be positioned about ninety electrical degrees out-of-phase from the main winding of the stator, and the integrator can be adapted to phase retard the output signal by a number of degrees which decreases as a speed of the motor increases. At low speeds the phase retard is preferably at about ninety degrees so that the phase retarded signal becomes in-phase with the main stator winding back EMF voltage.

  • Patent number: 5981639
Abstract: The process of this invention can be utilized to stabilize tin-coupled rubbery polymers. This process involves adding a chelating diamine or a sodium alkoxide to the rubbery polymer after the tin coupling has been carried out. This invention more specifically discloses a process for improving the stability of a tin-coupled rubbery polymer which comprises adding a sodium alkoxide to the tin-coupled rubbery polymer subsequent to the time at which the tin-coupled rubbery polymer is coupled. Sodium alkoxide is a representative example of a sodium alkoxide that can be used to stabilize the tin-coupled rubbery polymer.

  • Patent number: 5940459
Abstract: A host signal processor (HSP) modem has a software interface between HSP modem hardware and native audio hardware in a host computer. No hard wire connections between modem hardware and audio hardware are required for synchronization. Instead, a software clock recovery system matches a transfer rate of the HSP modem hardware and a transfer rate of the audio hardware by duplicating or deleting samples. The software interface allows the native audio hardware to make audible the handshaking sequence during modem connections which eliminates the need for a speaker and speaker drivers in the modem hardware. The combination of HSP modem hardware, audio hardware, and software executed by the host computer also allows the HSP modem to perform voice communication such as telephone or speakerphone functions.

  • Patent number: 5940714
Abstract: A semiconductor fabrication method is provided for fabricating a capacitor electrode structure in an integrated circuit such as a DRAM (dynamic random-access memory) device to serve as a data storage capacitor for the DRAM device. According to this method, a self-aligned process is used to form the bottom electrode of each data storage capacitor of the DRAM device. The first step is to form a first insulating layer over the substrate, which is then selectively removed to form contact windows. Next, a plurality of polysilicon plugs are formed in these contact windows, with the top surfaces thereof being below the top surface of the first insulating layer by a predefined depth. After this, sidewall spacers are formed on the sidewalls of the remaining void portions of the contact windows. After bit lines are formed, another insulating layer is deposited and then selectively removed to form electrode-pattern openings to expose the polysilicon plug that is to be connected to the bottom electrode of the capacitor.

  • Patent number: 5924007
Abstract: A method of improving the planarization of inter-poly dielectric layers. On a semiconductor device on which a poly-silicon layer is formed, by using atmosphere chemical vapor deposition, an undoped inter-poly dielectric layer is formed. A doped inter-poly dielectric layer is formed on the undoped inter-poly dielectric layer. Under a high temperature, reflow and etching back operations are performed for the doped inter-poly dielectric layer. Before a second poly-silicon layer is formed, a rapid thermal process is performed.

  • Patent number: 5923689
Abstract: This invention is a new type of GaInP/AlGaInP for a visible separate-confinement-heterostructure strained quantum well(SCH-S-QW) laser with passive wave guides in the cladding layers. By using this structure, we can significantly improve the transverse beam divergence with only a slight increase of the threshold current. With proper choice of parameters, the transverse beam divergence as narrow as 18.degree.. FWHM can be achieved while the threshold current only becomes 1.12 factor than the lasers without the passive waveguide structure. This type of structure has three advantages:(1) It increases the spectrum dissolution rate between the laser and its optic element to increase the efficiency in actual operation.(2) Smaller oval ratio makes the light beams appears circular, and avoids the problem of non-paralleled focusing in optical instruments. It also eliminates cumbersome non-paralleled focusing in traditional GaInP/AlGaInP, and is more cost efficient.

  • Patent number: 5846508
Abstract: A method for preparing aluminium nitride includes a first step in which a mixture is formed of aluminium powder and ammonium halide powder. The mixture is then molded into a tablet, which is ignited in an airtight chamber containing nitrogen gas. Aluminium nitride is formed of the tablet through the combustion reaction of the tablet. The gas generated in the decomposition of the ammonium halide forms a number of channels in the tablet so as to enable nitrogen gas to enter the tablet to react with aluminium. The synthesis of aluminium nitride of high purity under low pressure is possible in view of the catalytic effect of the ammonium halide.
