  • Publication number: 20090252096
Abstract: A wireless endpoint is a Wireless Regional Area Network (WRAN) endpoint, such as a base station (BS) or customer premise equipment (CPE). The WRAN endpoint can transmit an orthogonal frequency division multiplexed (OFDM) signal comprising 2048 subcarriers in a channel. The 2048 subcarriers are divided into 16 subcarrier sets, or subchannels, each subcarrier set comprising 128 subcarriers. However, upon detection of an incumbent narrowband signal in the channel, the WRAN endpoint forms a frequency usage map for transmission to another WRAN endpoint, wherein the frequency usage map identifies one, or more, of the subcarrier sets that would interfere with the incumbent narrowband signal.

  • Publication number: 20090249160
Abstract: There are provided a method, an apparatus and a computer program product for reducing power consumption in an iterative decoder, for example, for low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes or turbo codes. The apparatus includes a memory device and an iteration termination device. The memory device is for storing a decoded codeword for a current iteration, for each iteration of the iterative decoder prior to a maximum number of iterations. The iteration termination device is for comparing the decoded codeword for the current iteration to a previously stored decoded codeword for the previous iteration, incrementing a confidence value when the decoded codeword for the current iteration matches the previously stored decoded codeword for the previous iteration, and terminating further iterations of the iterative decoder when the confidence value exceeds a pre-specified threshold value.

  • Patent number: 7590722
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for managing data used by mobile devices. Data can be retrieved from a second computing device (e.g. a server) where it is stored on a storage medium (e.g. a disk). A subset of the data of a data record stored in the storage medium, or one or more pointers to the data of a data record stored on the storage medium is stored in a memory of the mobile device so that it is not necessary to store a given data record in its entirety in the memory of the mobile device.

  • Publication number: 20090129448
Abstract: A wireless WCDMA (wideband code division multiple access) receiver comprises a plurality of fingers, a mask engine, a plurality of delay mask scrambling code generators and a maximal ratio combiner. Each finger process a path of a received multi-path signal having an associated delay. For each of the delays, the mask engine provides a corresponding delay mask to a delay mask scrambling code generator, which then provides a scrambling code with the appropriate offset, or delay, to the requisite finger. Output signals from the fingers are provided to the maximal ratio combiner.

  • Publication number: 20090102969
Abstract: An implementation provides a transmitter that separates sequential portions of data in a first set of data by time intervals allowing a power saving mode (1005). The transmitter transmits the sequential portions of data separated by respective time intervals having lengths configured to allow a receiver to enter and exit a power saving mode between receiving sequentially transmitted portions of data from the first set of data (1010). The transmitter separates sequential portions of data in a second set by time intervals that are not of sufficient length to allow a receiver to enter and exit a power saving mode during the time intervals (1015). The second set of data is then transmitted (1020).

  • Patent number: 7464318
Abstract: A satellite communications system comprises a transmitting ground station, including a transmitter and a receiver, a satellite transponder and a receiving ground station. The transmitter transmits an uplink signal to the satellite transponder, which broadcasts the received uplink signal as a downlink signal to the receiving ground station. The transmitting ground station monitors the downlink signal through the receiver and calculates log-likelihood ratios (LLRs) as a function of the monitored downlink signal. These LLRs are illustratively stored in a look-up table, which are then transmitted to the receiving ground station for use in recovering data from a received data signal.
