  • Publication number: 20120178460
Abstract: A bypass server is placed in an outgoing link between a mobile device server and a relay used to distribute data from the mobile device server to remote mobile devices to which the data is addressed. Where a direct connection is established between a suitably configured network node (such as a personal computer) and a given mobile device, the bypass server may form a local connection with the network node and divert along the local connection those packets that are addressed to the given mobile device. As such, a lower cost/higher bandwidth local communication path between the given mobile device and the mobile device server may be established, when compared to the conventional remote communication path. The local communication path may be especially useful for bulk data transfers.

  • Publication number: 20120065911
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for spectrum sensing for FM wireless microphone signals are provided. The spectrum sensing algorithm developed makes use of the property that the autocorrelation function of an FM signal is a sinusoidal function provided that the frequency) deviation is much smaller than the carrier frequency and the correlation delay is small. Based on this property, a simple spectrum sensing algorithm for the FM signal is designed by computing the autocorrelation function of the received signal and matched filtering of the sinusoidal function. The spectrum sensor provided by this approach can reliably detect the target signals when a strong adjacent channel interference exists and the signal power is as low as ?114 dBm.

  • Publication number: 20120057664
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for symbol timing recovery are provided. Both a coarse symbol timing recovery method and apparatus, and a fine symbol timing recovery method and apparatus are described which can be used jointly for symbol recovery, for example in phase shift keying receivers. The coarse method involves the use of differential correlations and finding the time difference in peak values of the correlation results. The fine method involves interpolation of a received digital signal, followed by filtering and timing error detection. The error detection signal is further filtered and used to control the interpolator. The methods provide for robust symbol timing synchronization.

  • Patent number: 8107512
Abstract: There is provided a method for generating an error signal for an automatic frequency control (AFC) loop in a Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) system. Sign information relating to phase differences in received pilot signals is accumulated. In one embodiment, the accumulated sign information is compared against predetermined threshold levels. The error signal is generated when at least one of the predetermined threshold levels is satisfied. In a second embodiment, the accumulated sign information is decimated. • Publication number: 20110317750
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for OFDM spectrum sensing are provided. The proposed spectrum sensing algorithms are based on Time-Domain Symbol Cross-Correlation (TDSC-MRC and TDSC-NP methods) and can be applied to all existing wireless OFDM systems. The statistical behaviors of the TDSC-based spectrum sensors are explicitly analyzed. In addition, the spectrum sensing method employing the Cyclic Prefix of the OFDM modulated signals (CP method) is described for comparison purposes. The DVB-T Standard is adopted as an application example to illustrate the proposed spectrum sensing algorithms. Simulation results show that the TDSC-MRC method outperforms the CP method for all values of CP ratio considered. The TDSC methods have the advantage that the detection performances are the same for different CP ratios, while the detection performance of the CP method degrades dramatically when the CP ratio becomes small.
