    Abstract: An apparatus may include a composite soft underlayer and a perpendicular magnetic recording layer overlying the composite soft underlayer. The composite soft underlayer may include a growth template layer, a negative magnetic anisotropy layer overlying the growth template layer, and a magnetically soft layer overlying the negative magnetic anisotropy layer. In some embodiments, the negative magnetic anisotropy layer includes a plurality of grains, and substantially all the grains have negative magnetic anisotropy along an axis substantially perpendicular to a major plane of the composite soft underlayer. In some embodiments, the negative magnetic anisotropy layer includes a thickness of less than or equal to about 3 nm.

    Abstract: A method and system for fabricating a microelectric device are described. A write pole of an energy assisted magnetic recording head or a capacitor might be fabricated. The method includes depositing a resist film and curing the resist film at a temperature of at least 180 degrees centigrade. A cured resist film capable of supporting a line having an aspect ratio of at least ten is thus provided. A portion of the cured resist film is removed. A remaining portion of the resist film forms the line. An insulating or nonmagnetic layer is deposited after formation of the line. The line is removed to provide a trench in the insulating or nonmagnetic layer. The trench has a height and a width. The height divided by the width corresponds to the aspect ratio. At least part of the structure is provided in the trench.

    Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention include systems and methods for low-rate electrochemical (wet) etch that use a net cathodic current or potential. In particular, some embodiments achieve controlled etch rates of less than 0.1 nm/s by applying a small net cathodic current to a substrate as the substrate is submerged in an aqueous electrolyte. Depending on the embodiment, the aqueous electrolyte utilized may comprise the same type of cations as the material being etched from the substrate. Some embodiments are useful in etching thin film metals and alloys and fabrication of magnetic head transducer wafers.

The image cropping unit crops the first image to keep a first section of the first image, and further crops the second image to keep a second section of the second image. The first section is different from the second section. The image stitching unit stitches the first section and the second section into an integrated image. In exemplary implementations, servo patterns, gray code patterns and timing line patterns are physically preformatted to have a recordable:non-recordable radial width ratio substantially equal to that of a user data area. In certain embodiments, non-magnetic or magnetically suppressed regions having cross-track dimension substantially equal to that of spaces between tracks in the user data area are consecutively offset in a cross-track direction from the discrete track recording pattern of the user data area.

    Abstract: A disk drive with DTR media and method of assembly is described. The method may include aligning a discrete track recording (DTR) track pattern center on a DTR disk with a rotational center of a spindle hub and mounting the DTR disk on the spindle hub to minimize eccentricity. After the DTR disk is mounted to the spindle hub, it may be rotated to a designed rotational speed and the mass imbalance of the rotating DTR disk/spindle hub may be measured. The mass imbalance may be mitigated using a mechanical component such as a counter weight coupled to a spindle rotatable component, for example, the spindle hub, a spacer assembly, a clamp assembly, etc. The method may mitigate the eccentricity associated with DTR media and minimize run-out due to the mass imbalance of an otherwise rotated DTR disk/hub aligned for eccentricity correction.

The bent portion of the bracket of the extension card is placed on the support portion of the casing. The longitudinal bottom plate of the metal pressing member presses on the bent portion. The resilient latching structure of the metal pressing member detachably latches onto the casing. As a result, the extension card is capable of being retained in or dismounted from the casing easily and quickly.
