    Abstract: A light modulating lamp stand includes a columnar holder having a chamber for receiving a lamp and formed with a first and a second electrode terminal, a circuit board installed on the holder and formed with a first and a second power connecting terminal and a SCR connected with the second electrode terminal of the circular holder and the second power connecting terminal of the circuit board. The SCR has its anode and cathode connected in parallel with an adjustable resistance and a capacitor connected in series. The capacitor has one terminal connected with the second power connecting terminal of the circuit board, and a trigger diode is connected with the other terminal of the capacitor and the gate electrode of the SCR. Thus, brightness of the lamp can be modulated by adjusting and changing resistance value of the adjustable resistance.

    Abstract: A liquid crystal display includes an active display area and gate drivers. The active display area includes display blocks, each display block including pixel rows. The gate driver sequentially outputs gate signals to the display block and drives corresponding pixel rows to display pixel images, or outputs a dummy gate signal to the display block to drive the corresponding pixel rows to display a compensation image for improving motion image quality. A method of driving the liquid crystal display includes using the gate drivers to sequentially drive the pixel rows of each of the display blocks to display pixel images, and using the gate driver to output a dummy gate signal to simultaneously drive the pixel rows of another display block to display the compensation image.

    Abstract: Several neurodegenerative diseases result from the aggregation of polyglutamine repeat proteins into insoluble neuronal intranuclear inclusions. The invention provides methods with which to study the processes of these diseases, including methods for solubilizing polypeptides containing a polyglutamine repeat sequence, for storing these polyglutamine polypeptides and inhibit their spontaneous aggregation, for making the aggregates of polyglutamine polypeptides, for assaying the extension of existing polyglutamine aggregates, for determining the ability of a chemical compound to inhibit aggregation, and for inhibiting aggregation of polyglutamine polypeptides. The invention further provides materials with which to study these diseases including a synthetic aggregate that have a capability to recruit additional monomeric polyglutamine polypeptides and chemical compounds that inhibit the formation and/or extension of polyglutamine aggregates.

    Abstract: A glass substrate includes a two-dimensional barcode, which is provided on a peripheral region of a major surface of the glass substrate. A side of the two-dimensional barcode is oblique to a nearest side of the glass substrate. The two-dimensional barcode includes a reference line, and is for recording identification information of the glass substrate. If the two-dimensional barcode sustains partial damage at the nearest side of the glass substrate, there is a reasonable likelihood that only part of the side of the two-dimensional barcode will sustain damage. In such case, the risk of damage occurring to the reference line of the two-dimensional barcode is minimized. If the reference line remains intact, then the two-dimensional barcode can still be properly read.

    Abstract: A speed adjuster is provided in a belt-disc sander for controlling the rotating speed of a motor of the belt-disc sander. A speed adjust knob is disposed outside the belt-disc sander. The speed adjuster has a control circuit, a current sensor, a drive circuit, and a converter. The current sensor detects the motor current and feeds back to the control circuit, which controls the frequency variation of a SPWM signal of the drive circuit in response to the input of the speed adjust knob. The converter transforms the square wave voltage into an AC voltage for driving the motor. The desired rotating speed can be adjusted through the speed adjust knob. The control circuit will compare the present rotating speed of the motor with the set rotating speed to determine whether the present rotating speed conforms to the set one for correcting the rotating speed of the motor.
