  • Patent number: 6389934
Abstract: A wrench includes a box end which has an elongated space defined therein and the space is defined by a periphery which includes two long sides and two short sides which are connected between the two long sides. The periphery is composed of two identical portions which are symmetrical about an axis P which passes through a mediate point on one long side and a mediate point on the other second long side. Each portion has three engaging surfaces for contacting three sides of a hexagonal object and three recesses for allowing corners of the hexagonal object being received during rotation of the box end. The box end may tighten or loosen the object without removing the box end from the object by engaging the object with either one of the two identical portions of the periphery.

  • Patent number: 6389881
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for detecting and locating leaks in a pipeline. Pattern match filtering is used to reduce false alarm rate, increase sensitivity and improve leak location accuracy, while quickly detecting leaks by the acoustic signal generated from a leak event in pipelines containing gas or liquid under pressure. The pattern match filter technique detects a pressure wave generated by a leak, but discriminates against background noise and pressure disturbance generated by other non-leak sources that might otherwise be detected as a leak. The pattern match filter derives a sharp peaked output from the signal of the expansion wave which allows for a distinctive point of reference for a time stamp. This provides for improved accuracy in leak location calculations. The pattern match filter is incorporated into site processors located at multiple points along a pipeline, and at a central node processor which receives data from all site processors.

  • Patent number: 6373049
Abstract: A knock mode scanning near-field optical microscope comprises a light source member, an optical fiber probe connected at one end thereof with the light source member such that other end of the optical fiber probe forms a near-field point source of light, and that the optical fiber probe is attached with one end of a suspension arm member of an oscillation member. The oscillation member further has a piezoelectric ceramics, which is disposed on the suspension arm member, and is driven by a harmonic wave signal by a signal feedback member so as to bring about a change in amplitude and phase of the optical fiber probe in order to result in a feedback control.

  • Publication number: 20010021160
Abstract: A thin-film optical recording medium and compatible materials is disclosed. When the transparent layer and the reflecting layer of the present invention are exposed to a light beam, the two layers react to form a semi-transparent reflective alloy/compound area. The presence of such area (1) decreases the effective optical thickness of the transparent layer and/or (2) forms a region of changed optical n & k and/or (3) changes the optical polarization angle. At least one of the above three effects produces an optical contrast before and after the recording from which the signal modulation required for reading the optical media can be derived. The present invention allows high-density, high-resolution, high-speed recording of data that is highly compatible with the full visible-light spectrum.

  • Patent number: 5958019
Abstract: When a processor within a computer system performs a synchronization operation, the system interface within the node delays subsequent transactions from the processor until outstanding coherency activity is completed. Therefore, the computer system may employ asynchronous operations. The synchronization operations may be used when needed to guarantee global completion of one or more prior asynchronous operations. In one embodiment, the synchronization operation is placed into a queue within the system interface. When the synchronization operation reaches the head of the queue, it may be initiated within the system interface. The system interface further includes a request agent comprising multiple control units, each of which may concurrently service coherency activity with respect to a different transaction. Furthermore, the system interface includes a synchronization control vector register which stores a bit for each control unit.

  • Patent number: 5429990
Abstract: A new method of planarizing an integrated circuit is achieved. The dielectric layers between the conductive layers of an integrated circuit are formed and planarized via A first silicon oxide layer is deposited over the metal layer. This is covered with a spin-on-glass layer. This layer is dried by baking. The spin-on-glass layer is now fully cured. The cured spin-on-glass layer is now ion implanted under the conditions of between about 1E15 to 1E17 atoms/cm.sup.2 and energy between about 50 to 100 KeV. A silicon oxide layer is deposited thereover. Via openings are now made through the silicon oxide layers and the spin-on-glass layer and filled with metal. This results in excellent planarity with no poisoned via problems. Most importantly, this method can be used for submicron technologies having conductor lines which are spaced from one another by submicron feature size and can be processed without the use of an etch-back process for the cured spin on and glass layer.
