  • Publication number: 20040211462
Abstract: A microprocessor-based gas meter has fully electronic control, safety cutoff and data communication functions, while remains the same size of a conventional gas meter. The control circuit board in the microprocessor-based gas meter is mounted inside the main body of the gas meter through a mounting slot. The sensors, wires and battery are located in the rest space of the chamber so as to utilize the space of the chamber. When an abnormal situation is detected, the control circuit activates a cutoff valve and shuts off the gas intake. The data communication function is to transfer gas-metering data through telephone lines to the gas company so that the mistakes and cost of manual checking and recording can be eliminated.

  • Patent number: 6797090
Abstract: A production method of multi-layer information record carriers that involves forming a signal duplication layer on a substrate that contains signals, then replacing a metallic stamping plate with the substrate that comprises the signal duplication layer for manufacturing a signal layer of high molecular materials. After the signal layer has been subjected to curing by exposure to ultra violet light, the signal layer is separated from the signal duplication layer because of the difference between the adhesive forces of the different materials. Multi-layer information record carriers can be manufactured by repeating the manufacturing process. Since the manufacturing process of the invention is simple and speedy, it facilitates the creation of automated facilities for mass production.

  • Patent number: 6668619
Abstract: A method and apparatus is provided for detecting and locating leaks in a pipeline. Pattern match filtering is used to reduce false alarm rate, increase sensitivity and improve leak location accuracy, while quickly detecting leaks by the acoustic signal generated from a leak event in pipelines containing gas or liquid under pressure. The pattern match filter technique detects a pressure wave generated by a leak, but discriminates against background noise and pressure disturbance generated by other non-leak sources that might otherwise be detected as a leak. The pattern match filter derives a sharp peaked output from the signal of the expansion wave which allows for a distinctive point of reference for a time stamp. This provides for improved accuracy in leak location calculations. The pattern match filter is incorporated into site processors located at multiple points along a pipeline, and at a central node processor which receives data from all site processors.

  • Publication number: 20030185143
Abstract: A multi-layer rewriteable information storage medium includes a substrate which is laminated with a plurality of information recording stacks to form a single side double information recording layers and double sides four information recording layers or more to greatly increase storage capacity. When reading or writing signals, laser beams of the optical pick-up head pass through replicated groove/land surfaces for tracking use to reach the information recording stacks. Hence tracking signals do not weaken when the thickness of the information recording stacks changes, and groove/land dimensions also may be maintained unchanged when the thickness of the information recording stacks changes. The laser beams can penetrate the substrate of a thickness from 0.1 mm to 1.2 mm to reach the information recording stacks. The storage medium of the invention can be used on existing optical disk drivers for reading or writing operations without a lot of structural changes.

  • Publication number: 20030162231
Abstract: Several neurodegenerative diseases result from the aggregation of polyglutamine repeat proteins into insoluble neuronal intranuclear inclusions. The invention provides methods with which to study the processes of these diseases, including methods for solubilizing polypeptides containing a polyglutamine repeat sequence, for storing these polyglutamine polypeptides and inhibit their spontaneous aggregation, for making the aggregates of polyglutamine polypeptides, for assaying the extension of existing polyglutamine aggregates, for determining the ability of a chemical compound to inhibit aggregation, and for inhibiting aggregation of polyglutamine polypeptides. The invention further provides materials with which to study these diseases including a synthetic aggregate that have a capability to recruit additional monomeric polyglutamine polypeptides and chemical compounds that inhibit the formation and/or extension of polyglutamine aggregates.
