  • Patent number: 7176408
Abstract: In a method for cutting structural components to be joined by laser radiation that is guided by a computer-controlled manipulation system provided with a nominal path for each structural component corresponding to a joining line that is curved as a result of at least one of the structural components being three-dimensionally shaped, the structural component surfaces of the structural components including the joining line are determined measuring technologically. Based on measuring results, the nominal path corresponding to a penetration line of the structural components to be joined is calculated. A marking is formed on a first one of the structural component surfaces. When performing the cut on the structural component surface provided with the marking, the resulting cutting gap and the marking are determining measuring technologically. When a deviation of the cutting gap from the nominal path is detected, the manipulation system is controlled to correct the deviation.

  • Publication number: 20060166566
Abstract: Structural component, especially a shielding part. The invention relates to a structural component, especially a shielding part, with structural parts which are configured at least in part differently in terms of their superficial extension and/or the direction in which the extend, of which parts there is at least one structural part of a first type (10). In that the structural parts of a second type (34) are formed from the structural part of the first type (16) such that hollow section-like receiving channels (36) which are curved in at least two directions are molded into the structural part of the first type (10) and that the respective receiving channels (36) in one direction of curvature follow the curvature of the structural part of the first type (10), thermal components, such as for example the curved exhaust lines of the exhaust system, can be accommodated in an integrating manner, and effective thermal shielding and noise insulation is ensured by overlapping.

  • Publication number: 20060088238
Abstract: A ball bearing (1) has an inner race (2) and an outer race (3). In order to prevent the rotating parts from being damaged when the bearing assembly fails, the bearing has emergency bearing surfaces (14, 15) which are concentric to the rotational axis (6) and of which one is a part of the rotating bearing race and the other is a part of the fixed bearing race. During normal operations the emergency bearing surfaces (14, 15) are situated opposite one another with a relatively narrow gap (24) therebetween. But, in the event of failure, the surfaces (14, 15) engage and function as emergency bearing surfaces.

  • Publication number: 20050269539
Abstract: Known canister-purge valves have a valve seat and a valve body movably disposed on the valve seat with a sealing element and a damping element. The sealing element is located on a side of the valve body facing the valve seat, and the damping element is located on a side of the valve body facing away from the valve seat. The sealing element and the damping element are a single component and are composed of a single elastomer. In selecting the elastomer, a compromise must be struck between good sealing properties for the sealing element and good damping properties for the damping element. With the canister-purge valve according to the present invention, the function of the canister-purge valve is improved by providing the sealing element with very good sealing properties and providing the damping element with very good damping properties. According to the present invention, the sealing element (40) is made of a first elastomer and the damping element (41) is made of a second elastomer.

  • Publication number: 20050251711
Abstract: A lightning detection system provides an estimated location of a lightning stroke. The system includes sensors, and an analyzer. Each sensor provides messages having sensor identification, an amplitude responsive to the lightning stroke, and a time of detecting the lightning stroke. The analyzer applies time corrections and amplitude corrections to improve the accuracy of determining the location of the lightning stroke. Time adjustments and amplitude adjustments for the time and amplitude corrections are recalled from a matrix accessed according to a suggested or estimated location. The matrix may be organized by coordinates of longitude and latitude.

  • Patent number: 6959587
Abstract: In a method and an arrangement for checking the tightness of a vessel (10), especially of a tank-venting system of a motor vehicle, the vessel (10) is charged with a pressure generated by a motor-driven pressure source (30) and the motor current is determined. A reference leak (36) is selectively driven by a switchover valve (32) and is charged with a corresponding pressure and the motor current is determined. The determined electrical characteristic quantity and the determined reference characteristic quantity are compared and a conclusion is drawn therefrom as to the presence of a leak. To prevent the entry of moisture into the pressure source (30), it is provided that at least the pressure source (30) is heated intermittently. The heating takes place preferably by driving the switchover valve (32) at a suitable pulse duty factor. To prevent the entrance of moisture into the pressure source (30), a check valve (44) is provided and is suitably mounted in the connecting part of the pressure source (30).

  • Patent number: 6822188
Abstract: A method for materials processing by means of plasma-inducing high-energy radiation, especially laser radiation, in which the instantaneous intensity of the plasma radiation is measured at plural locations of a vapor capillary. So that the method can also be performed with perfect welding results on workpieces of very small thickness, shapes of two spaced-apart peak intensity regions, or of another type of electromagnetic radiation emitted from the vapor capillary, and of a minimum region that can be formed between these two regions of extreme values are detected metrologically, the so detected shapes of the regions of extreme values are compared with predetermined region shapes, and control of the materials processing operation takes place as a function of deviations of the detected shapes from the predetermined region shapes.

  • Patent number: 6739361
Abstract: A method and an apparatus operate a tank system including a tank system of a motor vehicle. The tank system includes a tank for receiving a fluid medium forming a volatile substance and an adsorption filter connected to the tank for receiving the volatile substance which emanates from the tank. A shutoff valve is connected to the adsorption filter and is drivable between an open position and a closed position whereat the tank system is closed off to the ambient. A tank fill-level sensor detects the fill level of the fluid medium in the tank. A fill pipe is connected to the tank for filling with the fluid medium. The fill level is detected while tanking and the shutoff valve is driven into the closed position when the fill level has reached a maximum fill level.
