  • Publication number: 20140306972
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide language support for CPU-GPU platforms. In one embodiment, code can be flexibly executed on both the CPU and GPU. CPU code can offload a kernel to the GPU. That kernel may in turn call preexisting libraries on the CPU, or make other calls into CPU functions. This allows an application to be built without requiring the entire call chain to be recompiled. Additionally, in one embodiment data may be shared seamlessly between CPU and GPU. This includes sharing objects that may have virtual functions. Embodiments thus ensure the right virtual function gets invoked on the CPU or the GPU if a virtual function is called by either the CPU or GPU.

  • Patent number: 8830487
Abstract: The disclosed embodiment relates to system and method for separating background image from foreground text in one or more electronic pages. The one or more electronic pages are compared to check whether the background image in each of the one or more electronic pages are same. If it found that the one or more electronic pages have common background image, the common background image is subtracted from each of the one or more pages. The foreground text from each of the one or more electronic pages is recognized using an OCR. Finally, the recognized foreground text from each of the one or more electronic pages is consolidated in a file. The consolidated file can be printed or send to one or more recipients over an email.

  • Patent number: 8798149
Abstract: A scalable video bitstream may have an H.264/AVC compatible base layer and a scalable enhancement layer, where scalability refers to color bit-depth. According to the invention, BL information is bit-depth upsampled using separate look-up tables for inverse tone mapping on two or more hierarchy levels, such as picture level, slice level or MB level. The look-up tables are differentially encoded and included in header information. Bit-depth upsampling is a process that increases the number of values that each pixel can have, corresponding to the pixels color intensity. The upsampled base layer data are used to predict the collocated enhancement layer, based on said look-up tables. The upsampling is done at the encoder side and in the same manner at the decoder side, wherein the upsampling may refer to temporal, spatial and bit depth characteristics. Thus, the bit-depth upsampling is compatible with texture upsampling.

  • Patent number: 8761249
Abstract: A highly accurate reproduction of visual intensity and contrast rather than the conventional 8-bit color depth is more and more used, motivating the development of an enhanced dynamic range called high bit-depth. A method for encoding a first, low bit-depth image of M bit RGB pixels and a second, high bit-depth video image of N bit RGB pixels, M<N, both having same spatial resolution, comprises generating a first transfer function based on color histograms of the first and the second video image, generating a second transfer function based on the first transfer function, applying the second transfer function to the first video image, wherein a transformed first video image is generated, calculating and encoding the residual, encoding the first video image and transmitting the encoded first video image, the second transfer function and the encoded difference.

  • Patent number: 8750248
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for RF handoff in a multi-frequency network. A method includes generating a handoff table that comprises RF channels of current and neighboring local operations infrastructures (LOIs) carrying the same content as a current RF channel; detecting a handoff event; disqualifying one or more of the RF channels from the handoff table based on disqualification criteria; selecting a selected RF channel from remaining RF channels in the handoff table that have not been disqualified; and performing a handoff from the current RF channel to the selected RF channel. Another method includes detecting a handoff event; identifying a start of a handoff time interval; determining if RSSI measurements are available at the start of the handoff time interval for RF channels carrying desired content; and performing a handoff to a selected RF channel having a greatest RSSI measurement.

  • Patent number: 8737474
Abstract: A scalable video bitstream may have an H.264/AVC compatible base layer and a scalable enhancement layer, where scalability refers to color bit depth. The H.264/AVC scalability extension SVC provides also other types of scalability, e.g. spatial scalability where the number of pixels in BL and EL are different. According to the invention, BL information is upsampled in two logical steps, one being texture upsampling and the other being bit depth upsampling. Texture upsampling is a process that increases the number of pixels, and bit depth upsampling is a process that increases the number of values that each pixel can have, corresponding to the pixels color intensity. The upsampled BL data are used to predict the collocated EL. The BL information is upsampled at the encoder side and in the same manner at the decoder side, wherein the upsampling refers to spatial and bit depth characteristics.

  • Patent number: 8719839
Abstract: A computer system may comprise a computer platform and input-output devices. The computer platform may include a plurality of heterogeneous processors comprising a central processing unit (CPU) and a graphics processing unit) GPU, for example. The GPU may be coupled to a GPU compiler and a GPU linker/loader and the CPU may be coupled to a CPU compiler and a CPU linker/loader. The user may create a shared object in an object oriented language and the shared object may include virtual functions. The shared object may be fine grain partitioned between the heterogeneous processors. The GPU compiler may allocate the shared object to the CPU and may create a first and a second enabling path to allow the GPU to invoke virtual functions of the shared object. Thus, the shared object that may include virtual functions may be shared seamlessly between the CPU and the GPU.
