  • Publication number: 20070040632
Abstract: A cancellation circuit to remove the anti-resonance signal from a resonator. Micro-mechanical and surface and bulk acoustic wave resonators include an anti-resonance in an output signal. This has an undesirable effect on certain types of systems in their function and performance. An anti-resonance cancellation circuit removes the anti-resonance from the output of the resonators by providing a signal which is subtracted from the output of the resonator. The cancellation circuit includes a capacitor which is matched to the static capacitance of the resonator. The loads of the resonator and cancellation network are also matched.

  • Publication number: 20060255433
Abstract: A semiconductor-containing flexible skin suitable for use in intelligent textile applications includes a metal layer, an insulating layer, and one or more semiconductor islands sandwiched between a first flexible polymer layer and a second flexible polymer layer. Various electronics and sensors can be advantageously incorporated on the semiconductor islands. The metal layer of the invention is patterned into conducting paths that allow electrical communication between the semiconductor islands and to any devices connected to flexible skin. Moreover, the insulating layer is disposed between the metal layer and semiconductor islands. An intelligent textile includes the semiconductor-containing flexible skin attached to a fabric. Specifically, opening in the flexible textile allow direct weaving with textiles. A method of forming the flexible skin and intelligent fabric is also provided.

  • Publication number: 20060154638
Abstract: A notch filter with a high Q factor, which is integrated with a first and a second cascoded LNA, is totally contained on an integrated chip. The notch filter, comprising two Q-enhancement circuits, is coupled to the second differential LNA. The two Q-enhancement circuits are combined to generate sufficient negative impedance to compensate for the loss in the on-chip low Q inductors. To improve the image rejection of the notch filter in a wide frequency band, the notch filter uses an automatic current tuning circuit which consists of an analog multiplier and fixed and voltage controlled current sources. Furthermore, by modifying the connection and location of the tunable varactor, another wideband tunable notch filter is implemented. The notch filter can be applied in all current wireless receiver systems.

  • Publication number: 20050158834
Abstract: Methods are provided for engineering novel strand-specific nicking endonucleases by means of an in vivo enrichment of a plasmid library containing a randomly mutagenized restriction endonuclease gene. The plasmids contain adjacent to the gene a cleavable or nickable sequence for cleaving or nicking by the endonuclease product of the gene and a second recognition site for a second endonuclease. The plasmid library is used to transform unmodified host cells. Plasmids from the cultured transformed cells may be analyzed by an in vitro assay for nicking and the nicked plasmids pooled and used to transform host cells. The product is then pooled and the single-stranded specificity of the endonuclease is then determined. The product is either cloned after amplification or identified by use of a selectable marker.

  • Publication number: 20050055184
Abstract: Data from a target system (616) that exhibits a non-linear relationship between system properties and measurement data, is processed by applying a linear filter (F) to improve resolution and accuracy. The filter reduces inaccuracies that are introduced by an algorithm used to reconstruct the data. The filter is defined by assigning time varying functions, such as sinusoids (200), to elements (210) in a model (Y) of the system to perturbate the elements. The resulting data output from the model is reconstructed using the same algorithm used to subsequently reconstruct the data from the target system. The filter is defined as a matrix (F) that transforms the reconstructed data of the model (X) back toward the known properties of the model (Y). A library of filters can be pre-calculated for different applications. In an example implementation, the system is tissue that is imaged using optical tomography.

  • Publication number: 20050003420
Abstract: A method is described for increasing the activity of restriction endonuclease mutants that have altered binding or cleavage activities. Restriction endonuclease variants can carry one or more amino acid substitutions that change substrate specificity and at the same time decrease the enzyme catalytic activity. A method is described for isolating derivatives of the endonuclease variants by subjecting them to additional rounds of mutagenesis and screening in a dinD::lacZ indicator strain, such that second-site mutations within the nucleotide coding sequence of the endonuclease are obtained that increased the enzyme specific activity.
