This data stream transmitting method checks the number of maximum multiple paths of data streams recorded in a recording medium when a reproduction is requested, copies an uni-path stream section read from the recording medium so that the number of total same stream sections is equal to a target number which is determined based on the maximum number, assigns each stream section to a virtual channel to form multi-channel streams, and transmits the multi-channel streams to an outer device through a digital interface. Through this data stream transmitting method, it is possible to transmit an angle- or story-based stream segment a viewer wants to view among multi-path stream so that the stream of the selected angle or story may be presented seamlessly at the borders between neighboring stream sections by very simple algorithm.

Abstract: A method for managing play lists for playback control of data streams recorded on a rewritable optical disk. When a user selects a partial interval of a video or audio clip the total interval of which is referred to by a real play list, a virtual play list that refers to the selected partial interval is created and recorded. If a request for minimizing the clip is received, the intervals that are not referred to by the virtual play list within the clip referred to by the real play list is deleted and the real play list is marked so that the real play list is not displayed as a menu item. When a request for displaying play lists is received from a user, all the play lists except for the real play lists marked as hidden items are displayed on the play list menu screen. As a result, a repeated display of play lists referring to the same clip is prevented and users do not get confused.

The present invention, when transmitting PSI to a digital TV set, measures time length of the PSI, creates time information preceding a transport time of the first TP belonging to data stream by the measured time length, converts PSI to at least one TP the created time information is added to, and transmits the converted PSI TPs before data stream TPs. Owing to the PSI provided along with a digital data stream, the digital data stream from a recording medium can be selected, separated, and decoded at a digital TV set without data loss. Furthermore, even though PSI is additionally provided, continuity among time information written successive TPs of PSI and data stream is always ensured.

Abstract: The present invention relates to method and apparatus of recording a multi-channel data stream on a recording medium in such a manner that substreams of digital channels constituting the multi-channel data stream can be distinguished each other in reproduction. The present recording method separates a multi-channel stream composed of substreams belonging to a plurality of channels into individual substreams, records the individual substreams separately by channel in a single or plural stream objects allocated in a recording medium, and creates as many files as the number of channels for the single or plural stream objects.
