  • Publication number: 20010022593
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of menu-based control of an external device connected to a digital audio/video apparatus. According to the present invention, a main menu is displayed including menu items for selecting functions or operations of the external device and a menu item for obtaining a detailed menu of the external device, the main menu image being stored in a memory of the audio/video apparatus. When one of the menu items associated with the functions or operations is selected, command data corresponding to the selected menu item are transmitted to have the external device perform the corresponding operation. When a menu item for obtaining the detailed menu of the external device is chosen, a menu image of the detailed menu is read out from the memory and is then displayed. Information provided by the external device is requested from the detailed menu.

  • Publication number: 20010007455
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of menu-based control of external devices connected to a digital audio/video apparatus. According to this invention, in response to user's request of a menu for selection of the external devices that have been connected to the digital audio/video apparatus, a menu image is displayed on the digital audio/video apparatus, each menu item corresponding to each of the connected external device. When one of the external devices is selected from the menu, a menu image including menu items for executing operations of the selected external device is requested and displayed on the digital audio/video apparatus. The operations of the selected external device can be selected and executed from the menu. This invention allows a user to conveniently, centrally examine and execute various operations or functions of external devices such as a DVD player that are connected to a central digital audio/video apparatus without the direct access to the external devices.

  • Publication number: 20010003480
Abstract: Apertures for use in an illuminating apparatus for forming patterns in a semiconductor wafer and illuminating apparatus including such apertures are provided. The aperture includes a shielding area and a non-circular transparent area within the shielding area. The transparent area has a ratio of a short axis to a long axis (R=short axis/long axis) that exceeds 0 and is smaller than 1 (0<R<1), the short axis being substantially perpendicular to the long axis. The transparent area may have an elliptical shape with an eccentricity (e) that exceeds 0 and is smaller than 1 (0<e<1). The transparent area may be positioned within the shielding area to define two thin portions of the shielding area and two thick portions of the shielding area with the long axis linking the thin portions of the shielding area and the short axis linking the thick portions of the shielding area.

  • Patent number: 6187117
Abstract: A method of making a weathering grade steel plate includes the steps of establishing a minimum yield strength:plate thickness target from one of 50 KSI:up to 4″, 65 KSI:up to 1.5″, and 70 KSI:up to 1.25″. A modified weathering grade alloy composition is cast into a slab employing effective levels of manganese, carbon, niobium, vanadium, nitrogen, and titanium. The cast slab is heated and rough rolled to an intermediate gauge plate. The intermediate gauge plate is controlled rolled and subjected to one of air cooling or accelerated cooling depending on the minimum yield strength and thickness target. With the controlled alloy chemistry, rolling and cooling, the final gauge plate exhibits discontinuous yielding and can be used for applications requiring a 70 KSI minimum yield strength in plate thicknesses up to 1.25″, a 65 KSI minimum yield strength in plate thickness up to 1.50″ and a 50 KSI minimum yield strength for plates as thick as 4″.

  • Patent number: 5812966
Abstract: An improved pitch searching time reducing method for a CELP vocoder using a Line Spectral Pair (LSP) frequency which is capable of significantly reducing the pitch search time by separating the speech signal using a first formant frequency of the line spectral pair of the digital type personal communication system, which includes the steps of computing a decimation interval of a pitch search interval using an LSP frequency of a first formant computed by a formant filter so as to compute a preparatory pitch of a given speech; determining a preparatory pitch to be used when searching a pitch by detecting a peak and a valley within each decimation interval; and computing a preparatory pitch by adapting a first formant frequency of an LSP computed by a formant filter with a decimation rate and performing a pitch search with respect to the obtained preparatory pitch.

  • Patent number: 5757802
Abstract: In the data encoding/decoding method according to the MPEG (Moving picture Expert Group) system, the audio/video bit stream interleaving method includes a first step of determining as to whether a PTS (Presentation Time Stamp) is present in audio/video packets so as to estimate the PTS from a preceding packet in the absence of the PTS, a second step of comparing the audio packet with the video paket in the PTS to output one of the packets which has smaller PTS value, and a third step of multiplexing the audio or video packet to form an audio/video bit stream, so that the decoder is prevented from the overflow or underflow pheonomena in consideration of the decoding time within the audio/video packet data decoding time.
