    Abstract: The present invention relates to method and apparatus of recording a multi-channel data stream on a recording medium in such a manner that substreams of digital channels constituting the multi-channel data stream can be distinguished each other in reproduction. The present recording method separates a multi-channel stream composed of substreams belonging to a plurality of channels into individual substreams, records the individual substreams separately by channel in plural stream objects allocated in a recording medium, creates a piece of search information every a substream contained in the recorded multi-channel stream, and records the created plural pieces of search information on the recording medium. The present method makes it possible to selectively search and reproduce each substream among a multi-channel stream recorded on a recording medium, thereby improving use convenience of a recording machine such as a digital video recorder.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to method and apparatus of recording digital data stream on a recording medium such as a high-density digital versatile disk. The present recording method searches received digital data stream containing video signals for each picture section, packetizes a data section including at least one picture section found in the searching process into a PES (Packetized Elementary Stream) packet, slices the PES packet to make the sliced data pieces to a plurality of transport packets, and writes the plurality of transport packets within a stream object unit if the stream object unit has a space enough to store the plurality of transport packets, or from head point of a next stream object unit if not. Therefore, the head of each stream object unit is aligned with start of an arbitrary picture, thereby improving random accessibility of A/V data stream recorded on a recording medium.

When a digital broadcast data stream received by a set top box is transmitted through a communication interface such as an IEEE-1394 bus to a streamer, program clock references contained in the data stream become different from the actual arrival time of the digital data stream because of different clock frequencies of the digital data stream and communication interface. The difference is compensated before the digital data stream is recorded on the streamer. The method in accordance with the present invention comprises detecting program clock references contained in received digital transport stream packets, creating the transport time reference of each transport stream packet based upon the detected program clock references and arrival times of the transport stream packets, and creating transport stream units by adding each of the created transport time reference to the associated transport stream packet.

    Abstract: A photoresist pattern is formed, without being exposed, by using photoresist having a residual layer proportion characteristic by which the photoresist dissolves at a suitable rate in a developing solution. First, a target layer to be patterned and a photoresist layer are sequentially formed on a substrate having a pattern that defines a step on the substrate. Some of the photoresist layer is treated with the developing solution, to thereby form a photoresist pattern whose upper surface is situated beneath the step and hence, exposes part of the target layer. Next, the exposed part of the target layer, and the photoresist pattern are removed. A silicidation process may be carried out thereafter on the area(s) from which the target layer has been removed.
