    Abstract: The present invention provides a method for object segmentation in videos tagged with semantic labels, including: detecting each frame of a video sequence with an object bounding box detector from a given semantic category and an object contour detector, and obtaining a candidate object bounding box set and a candidate object contour set for each frame of the input video; building a joint assignment model for the candidate object bounding box set and the candidate object contour set and solving the model to obtain the initial object segment sequence; processing the initial object segment, to estimate a probability distribution of the object shapes; and optimizing the initial object segment sequence with a variant of graph cut algorithm that integrates the shape probability distribution, to obtain an optimal segment sequence.

    Abstract: An apparatus monitors the state of charge (SOC) of a flow battery system. The monitoring method include determining SOCs of at least two pairs of different monitoring positions. A pair of monitoring position may be located inside of an anode electrolyte storage tank (2) and inside of a cathode electrolyte storage tank (3), or inside of an anode electrolyte outlet pipeline (6) of a stack and inside of a cathode electrolyte outlet pipeline (7) of the stack, or inside of an anode electrolyte inlet pipeline (8) of the stack and inside of a cathode electrolyte inlet pipeline (9) of the stack. The SOCsum of the flow battery system is acquired according to the SOCs corresponding to different pair of monitoring positions, respectively. The method ensures acquiring an SOC monitoring result timely and accurately.

    Abstract: The trend of analyzing big data in artificial intelligence requires more scalable machine learning algorithms, among which clustering is a fundamental and arguably the most widely applied method. To extend the applications of regular vector-based clustering algorithms, the Discrete Distribution (D2) clustering algorithm has been developed for clustering bags of weighted vectors which are well adopted in many emerging machine learning applications. The high computational complexity of D2-clustering limits its impact in solving massive learning problems. Here we present a parallel D2-clustering algorithm with substantially improved scalability. We develop a hierarchical structure for parallel computing in order to achieve a balance between the individual-node computation and the integration process of the algorithm. The parallel algorithm achieves significant speed-up with minor accuracy loss.

    Abstract: A method, system, and processor-readable storage medium are directed towards calculating approximate order statistics on a collection of real numbers. In one embodiment, the collection of real numbers is processed to create a digest comprising hierarchy of buckets. Each bucket is assigned a real number N having P digits of precision and ordinality O. The hierarchy is defined by grouping buckets into levels, where each level contains all buckets of a given ordinality. Each individual bucket in the hierarchy defines a range of numbers—all numbers that, after being truncated to that bucket's P digits of precision, are equal to that bucket's N. Each bucket additionally maintains a count of how many numbers have fallen within that bucket's range. Approximate order statistics may then be calculated by traversing the hierarchy and performing an operation on some or all of the ranges and counts associated with each bucket.
