    Abstract: A method of periodically attempting to access the HPLMN or an EHPLMN with higher priority in NTN systems with discontinuous coverage is proposed. A UE registered in VPLMN starts a timer T to periodically attempt to obtain service on its HPLMN or EHPLMN. When access stratum is deactivated due to discontinuous coverage in NTN, the UE does not stop the timer T, and postpone the periodic attempts to a later time, e.g., upon or after the UE activates the access stratum.

    Abstract: A method of handling lower layer failure when assigning a Paging Early Indication with Paging Subgrouping (PEIPS) subgroup ID is proposed. If a network supports and accepts the use of PEIPS assistance information for a UE, the network can provide to the UE the negotiated PEIPS assistance information containing a new Paging subgroup ID and a new 5G-GUTI in a REGISTRATION ACCEPT message or in a CONFIGURATION UPDATE COMMAND message, and the UE was assigned with an old paging subgroup ID. When lower layer failure occurs, the network may not successfully receive a REGISTRATION COMPLETE message or a CONFIGURATION UPDATE COMPLETE message from the UE. Accordingly, the network needs to use both possible paging subgroup IDs for the UE until one of the paging subgroup IDs is considered invalid.

    Abstract: A method for expedited tunnel establishment with a non-Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) interworking gateway to access a 3GPP network is provided. A User Equipment (UE) initiates establishment of an Internet Protocol secure (IPsec) tunnel with a first non-3GPP interworking gateway associated with the 3GPP network. The UE probes availability of a second non-3GPP interworking gateway associated with the 3GPP network before the IPsec tunnel with the first non-3GPP interworking gateway is established successfully. The UE initiates establishment of an IPsec tunnel with the second non-3GPP interworking gateway in response to failing to establish the IPsec tunnel with the first non-3GPP interworking gateway and the second non-3GPP interworking gateway being available. The UE accesses the 3GPP network over the IPsec tunnel with the second non-3GPP interworking gateway.

The method can further include responsive to the system information, selecting a network from the selection list according to a priority order of the candidate networks, and accessing the network selected from the selection list using the HSP subscription.

Prior to establishing the PDU session, the UE checks the corresponding URSP rules that can be used in the SNPN. If the UE is signaled with URSP rules by the registered non-subscribed. SNPN, UE should store the URSP rules and then apply those URSP rules for PDU session establishment when the UE access the services in the non-subscribed SNPN.

    Abstract: A method of handling Paging Early Indication with Paging Subgrouping (PEIPS) assistance information when a UE is registered to the same or different PLMN/SNPN networks is proposed. The PEIPS assistance information includes PEIPS parameters such as a PEIPS subgroup ID that is used by the UE for monitoring paging with PEIPS for power saving. If the UE registers to the same PLMN/SNPN via 3GPP access and non-3GPP access, then the UE handles the PEIPS parameters as one common parameters. If the UE registers to different PLMN/SNPN via 3GPP access and non-3GPP access, then the UE handles the PEIPS parameters as two independent parameters.

    Abstract: A method for supporting redundant PDU session under intersystem change between 5GS and EPS is proposed. A UE maintains a PDU session that is a redundant PDU session, associated with a PDU session pair ID and/or a redundancy sequence number (RSN). When inter-system change from N1 mode to S1 mode occurs, the PDU session is transferred/mapped to a PDN connection. The UE shall associate the PDU session pair ID and/or the RSN with the PDN connection corresponding to the PDU session (e.g., associate with the default EPS bearer context of the PDN connection). When inter-system change from S1 mode to N1 mode occurs, the PDN connection is transferred/mapped back to the PDU session. The UE shall associate the PDU session pair ID and/or the RSN with the PDU session corresponding to the PDN connection.

    Abstract: A method for handling a PDU session release command for releasing an MA PDU session with a PDN connection established as user-plane resource on 3GPP access is proposed. For an MA PDU session with both EPS/4G 3GPP leg and 5GS non-3GPP leg, if UE/NW wants to release the MA PDU session, UE/NW needs to initiate two procedures. First/Second, to release the EPS 3GPP leg, UE/NW should initiate a PDN disconnect procedure/deactivate EPS bearer context procedure or a detach procedure. Second/First, to release the 5GS non-3GPP leg, UE/NW should initiate a PDU session release procedure. The UE/NW can also initiate two procedures simultaneously. It is also possible that the UE initiates one procedure and the NW initiates the other procedure.

    Abstract: When a UE is registered to the same PLMN or SNPN over 3GPP and non-3GPP access, the UE and the AMF maintain one 5G-GUTI that is common to both 3GPP and non-3GPP access. When the UE is required to re-register to the network, the UE follows the procedures of deregister over both accesses, delete the common shared 5G-GUTI, and re-register over both accesses. The UE needs to perform the above procedures in a graceful sequence. In one novel aspect, the UE triggers the re-registration (either over 3GPP or non-3GPP access) after the completion of deregistration over both 3GPP and non-3GPP access. In addition, the UE deletes the common 5G-GUTI only after the completion of deregistration over both 3GPP and non-3GPP access.
