  • Publication number: 20170343398
Abstract: A flow rate measurement device includes a turbulence reduction component having opening portions and disposed between a measurement channel and a pair of hole portions across which a pair of ultrasonic transceivers are disposed from the measurement channel. The pair of opening portions of the turbulence reduction component each have frame pieces which are substantially identical in width. This makes it possible to reduce, with small attenuation of ultrasound, the occurrence of turbulence that is attributable to entrained flows in the pair of hole portions and is a cause of measurement error, thereby ensuring measurement accuracy.

  • Patent number: 9815473
Abstract: A method for controlling a manual transmission includes using a controller to determine a desired torque transmitted through an input clutch for the desired gear after a shift lever is moved to a desired gear position and while a clutch pedal is being released for engaging the clutch; inferring torque in the vehicle drive assembly; using inferred torque to determine clutch torque; and using the controller to automatically adjust a clutch actuator such that a difference between the desired torque and the inferred torque is reduced.

  • Publication number: 20170320497
Abstract: A system and method for operating an automatic start/stop system in a motor vehicle having an internal combustion engine, an automatic transmission and a torque converter with an impeller disconnect clutch is disclosed. A controller may implement an engine start/stop system by, at appropriate times, stopping engine by halting fuel and restarting engine when propulsion is needed. During an engine start/stop event, the engine is automatically shut down and the impeller clutch of the torque converter may be disengaged to decouple the impeller and the engine to provide for fuel and emissions savings.

  • Publication number: 20170261047
Abstract: A method of determining automatic transmission lubrication fluid flow rates corresponding to a running vehicle without direct oil flow measurements is disclosed. A set of in-vehicle clutch torques for a chosen clutch pack during a gear shift event for a set of shift conditions is obtained. A series of bench tests at various clutch-pack clearances and oil-flow rates for the set of shift conditions are performed. The clearances and oil-flow rates are adjusted in response to the measured magnitudes exceeding thresholds. In-vehicle transmission lubrication oil-flow rates are estimated at the chosen clutch pack for the set of shift conditions when the bench-test and in-vehicle clutch torques are less than the thresholds. The steps are reproduced for other engine conditions and fluid temperatures corresponding to other transmission gear positions. A functional map of in-vehicle oil flow rates are produced, and the transmission is adjusted based on the map.

  • Patent number: 9759275
Abstract: A controller adjust a clutch actuator position is response to movement of a clutch pedal. During an engagement or a disengagement, the controller monitors sensor signals to determine the actuator position corresponding to the touch point. The sensors may directly indicate clutch torque or may respond indirectly. A Giant Magneto Resistive (GMR) sensor provides a precise shaft rotational position signal which can be twice numerically differentiated to yield an accurate and stable acceleration signal. The controller updates the touch point based on a change in the sensed acceleration or torque. The controller then adjusts the relationship of actuator pedal position to clutch pedal position, making mechanical wear adjustment unnecessary.

  • Publication number: 20170234755
Abstract: A transmission utilizes an output torque sensor that relies upon magnetization of a section of the output shaft. The sensor produces an electrical current that varies as the torque transmitted by the shaft varies. However, the relationship between output torque and electrical current is impacted by part-to-part variability of the shaft and of the sensor. Conventional methods of compensating for this variability are hampered because the sensors and shafts are not paired until they are assembled into the transmission. A portable test may be used to characterize each shaft and each sensor. This characterization data includes average zero torque current and variability of zero torque current with respect to shaft position. A mapping is selected based on the shaft characterization and the sensor characterization and programmed into the controller.

  • Patent number: 9726280
Abstract: A transmission calibration tool automatically generates a detailed gearbox model based on a user input transmission topology description. During transmission calibration, the tool accepts inputs from transmission speed and torque sensors and estimates component torques for each gear element and each shift element. Following a shift or other transmission event, the calibration tool plots the component torques as a function of time, permitting the calibration engineer to better understand what is occurring during the event, and thus reducing the time required for calibration. The calibration tool also adapts several transmission component models and outputs the adapted models to provide insight into actual transmission component behavior.

  • Publication number: 20170207331
Abstract: A performance of a semiconductor device including an RC-IGBT is improved. An AlNiSi layer (a layer containing aluminum (Al), nickel (Ni), and silicon (Si)) is formed between a back surface of a semiconductor substrate and a back surface electrode. Thus, a favorable ohmic junction can be obtained between the back surface electrode and an N+-type layer constituting a cathode region in an embedded diode, and a favorable ohmic junction can be obtained between the back surface electrode and a P-type layer constituting a collector region in an IGBT. The AlNiSi layer contains 10 at % or more of each of the aluminum (Al), the nickel (Ni), and the silicon (Si).

  • Patent number: 9709164
Abstract: A method of operating a transmission includes measuring an output torque, estimating a gearbox input torque using a model, and estimating gearbox component torques based on a detailed gearbox model. The model used to estimate the input torque varies depending on whether a torque converter is locked, open, or slipping. In some operating conditions, multiple estimates are available for gearbox input torque, impeller torque, or shift element torque in which case the models are adapted. When an estimated component torque is outside an expected range, a warning flag is raised and diagnostic data is saved. When an estimated torque approaches or exceeds a torque limit, the input torque command may be reduced to prevent component damage. A warning flag may also be raised and diagnostic data saved in response to a model parameter being adapted to a value outside of a predetermined range.

  • Patent number: 9683905
Abstract: A powertrain incorporates a link shaft between the transmission output shaft and downstream components in order to facilitate use of a torque sensor. The link shaft includes an inner section splined to the output shaft and an outer section treated to produce a magnetic field that varies based on transmitted torque. The inner section and outer section are separated by a circumferential gap that directs the torque past the treated surface. Use of the link shaft eliminates the need to directly treat the transmission output shaft. Separating the spline and the treated surface radially reduces the axial length required for torque sensing and allows commonality among variants with and without torque sensors and between two wheel drive and four wheel drive variants.
