  • Publication number: 20050165735
Abstract: The present invention provides a novel client side caching (CSC) infrastructure that supports transition states at the directory level to facilitate a seamless operation across connectivity states between client and remote server. More specifically, persistent caching is performed to safeguard the user (e.g., client) and/or the client applications across connectivity interruptions and/or bandwidth changes. This is accomplished in part by caching to a client data store the desirable file(s) together with the appropriate file access parameters. Moreover, the client maintains access to cached files during periods of disconnect. Furthermore, portions of a path can be offline while other portions upstream can remain online. CSC operates on the logical path which cooperates with DFS which operates on the physical path to keep track of files cached, accessed and changes in the directories. In addition, truth on the client is facilitated whether or not a conflict of file copies exists.

  • Patent number: 6922793
Abstract: A method for recovering from malfunctions in a primary agent module of a modular network device. The primary agent module is installed in a modular network device having a number of network interface modules housed in a chassis. A backup agent module is installed in the chassis when the modular network device is powered on. The backup agent module determines if the primary agent module has been installed when three dedicated signals of the primary agent module are asserted. The network device then synchronizes all configuration information of the network interface modules from the primary to the backup agent module. The backup agent module detects that the primary agent module has failed if it cannot receive a message sent from the primary agent module within a predetermined time interval. As a result, the modular network device is rebooted and the backup agent module becomes the primary agent module.

  • Publication number: 20050125995
Abstract: A system, method, and apparatus for handling workpieces such as hard disk drive sliders during a debonding process uses a fixture having two sets of finger-like projections that are interleaved. The sets are movable relative to each other to space apart the sliders after they are processed from their original row configuration. The post-processing separation is required to properly debond the sliders. The fingers on each set are closely interleaved to reduce the amount of displacement required to adequately separate the sliders for debonding. After the sliders are displaced, they are directly debonded into the inspection trays. This design eliminates the need for manual handling of the workpieces during these phases of manufacturing.

  • Publication number: 20050126706
Abstract: Methods of improving the adhesive characteristics of an adhesive resin composition and the use of the adhesive for bonding substrate materials, such as ceramic materials and manufacturing tools, are described. The adhesive composition includes a resist adhesive resin and a solvent having a boiling point in the range of about 30° C. to about 80° C. The methods and the adhesive composition find utility in hard disk drive applications, such as in the manufacture of sliders for hard disk drives.

  • Patent number: 6889233
Abstract: A method of purging cached open files from a client-side delayed close list on a remote file system. The remote file system stores a unique file identifier for each cached open file which is independent of the cached file's namespace. In response to a delete or rename command of a remote target file, the remote file system obtains a target file identifier from the target file's server. The remote file system then compares the target file identifier with each of the cached file's unique file identifier. If a cached file's unique file identifier matches the target file identifier, the cached file is purged from the delayed close list.

  • Publication number: 20050027943
Abstract: The present invention is directed at a system and method for managing and evicting objects stored in a cache. The invention provides a mechanism for determining which objects to evict based on a weight that is calculated for each object stored in the cache. The weight is determined by at least two factors, including file size, file type, primary user, last access time, and the like, and by the relative importance of each of the factors. The weight for each object may be determined autonomously and/or may be determined upon a trigger event. The factors and their relative importance may be obtained from a policy applicable to one or several computers.

  • Publication number: 20040261082
Abstract: The invention provides a system and method for managing cached objects using notification bonds. A server is configured to manage original objects. A client creates cached objects from the original objects and establishes notification bonds with the server. Each notification bond enables the client to obtain a notification from the server in response to an object related event associated with an original object. The client uses the data in the notification to update the cache object corresponding to the original object without synchronizing other cache objects.

  • Publication number: 20040243644
Abstract: The invention provides a distributed file system configured to delegate file system operations to clients. The client obtains a delegation associated with an object managed by the server. The delegation enables the client to perform a file system operation on behalf of the server. The client caches the object and enables users associated with the client to access the object in accordance with the delegation.

  • Publication number: 20040181576
Abstract: A system and method that automatically and transparently handle client-side caching of network file data, independent of any remote file handling protocol. A protocol-independent client-side caching mechanism is inserted as a service that handles file-related requests directed to a network, and attempts to satisfy the requests via a client-side caching persistent store. By way of pre-process and post-process calls on a file create request, the caching mechanism creates file-related data structures, and overwrites the information in those structures that a buffering service uses to call back to a network redirector, whereby the client-side caching mechanism inserts itself into the communication flow between the network redirector and the buffering service.

  • Publication number: 20040160438
Abstract: A transformation device for remote monitoring a computer display image is described. The transformation device monitors display images of a server on a remote computer display via a network. The transformation device includes an image capture unit and a system-on-chip. The image capture unit captures the display images from the a display cable and transforms the display images into digital image data fulfilling browser safe palette requirements and corresponding synchronization signals to reduce the bandwidth requirements. The system-on-chip transforms the digital image data and the corresponding synchronization signals into network packets and delivers the network packets to the remote computer so as to display instantly the display images of the server on a display of the remote computer.

  • Publication number: 20040150625
Abstract: A virtual keyboard and mouse control device is described. The control device controls a server with a keyboard and a mouse of a remote computer via a network. The control device includes an input interface, a transformation device, a first output interface and a second output interface. The input interface receives packets from the remote computer via the network. The transformation device transforms the packets into mouse output signals and keyboard output signals according to the input specification of the server to simulate a local keyboard and a local mouse. The first output interface sends the keyboard output signals to the server and the second output interface sends the mouse output signals to the server. The first and second output interface includes a universal serial bus, an IEEE 1394 bus or a PS/2 input/output port.

  • Publication number: 20040153579
Abstract: A virtual disc drive control device is described. The control device controls a remote disc drive for a local computer via a network. The control device includes an input/output interface, a virtual disc drive simulation firmware, and a network interface controller. The input/output interface receives information from the local computer. The firmware simulates a local disc drive and responses the information. The firmware responds to the information if the firmware is able to answer directly the information. The firmware sends the information to a remote computer if the firmware is not able to answer the information. A remote disc drive agent of the remote computer controls a remote disc drive according the information and responds to the information. The firmware simulates a local disc drive response according to the remote computer response and sends the local disc drive response to the local computer.
