    Abstract: A land grid array connector of an embodiment of the present invention includes an insulative housing, a stiffener harnessed on the housing, a load plate and a lever pivotally mounted to two ends of the stiffener. A pair of spaced securing portions extends from an end of the load plate, around which the load plate is pivotally mounted to the stiffener. The stiffener includes a support portion that corresponds to an end portion between the securing portions. The support portion extends upwardly and outwardly in a manner such that when the load plate is driven to an opened position, said end portion of the load plate is urged to be seated upon the support portion so as to limit the opening of the load plate with respect to the housing.

So the pick up cap can be lifted via putting up the lever, and the pick up cap can be detached from the connector conveniently and reliably.

The housing has a number of sidewalls. Two wings (45) extend downwardly from opposite side edges of the load plate and toward the housing. A stopping member is formed on the wings of the load plate and two opposite sidewalls of the housing corresponding the wings, for resisting horizontal moving of the load plate and the CPU chip. The stopping member comprises a plurality of protrusions and holding sections engaging the protrusions. The protrusions each engagingly retained in a corresponding holding section during the connector being in closed position. This can resist horizontal moving of the load plate and the CPU chip.

The stiffener reinforces the housing, and protects the housing from deformation or warpage.

A plurality of protrusions (324) is formed on the top surface for protect the terminals from being accidental damaged, A common supporting surface (326) is formed cooperatively by the protrusions, above the contacting portion in a direction perpendicular to the top surface. This can protect the contacting portion of the terminal from being collided. As a result reliable electrical connection between the package and contacts of the land grid array connector is secured.

The male contacts and the female contacts are arranged in both side surfaces of each partition wall, and also in opposite inner surfaces of each slot. The second connector has substantially the same configuration as the first connector.
