  • Patent number: 6791847
Abstract: A retention module (30) of the present invention is fastened to a motherboard (50), and surrounds a land grid array (LGA) central processing unit (CPU) (52) which is engaged on an LGA socket (54) that is mounted on the motherboard. The heat sink includes a base (12), and a plurality of fins (14) extending upwardly from the base. A notch (16) is defined in each of four sides of the base. The retention module includes a rectangular bottom plate (32). A side plate (36) extends upwardly from each of four sides of the bottom plate. A locating block (40) is formed on an inside of each side plate. The locating blocks are fittingly received in the notches of the base, thereby preventing the heat sink from sliding in horizontal directions. Thus the heat sink is prevented from disturbing mechanical and electrical engagement of the CPU with the socket.

  • Publication number: 20040175974
Abstract: An electrical connector assembly includes an electrical connector (2) and a pick up cap (1) attached onto the connector. The connector includes a generally rectangular housing (21), a clip (24) pivotally engaged to the housing, and a number of electrical contacts (23) received in the housing. The housing includes a cavity (210) formed with a front side (211), a rear side (212) opposite to the front side, and a pair of opposite lateral sides (213) interconnecting the front side and the rear side. The pick up cap includes a planar body (10) with a smooth top surface (100) and a bottom surface thereof. In use, the pick up cap is mounted between the clip and the housing, therefore, it is close to the contacts and covers nearly all the exposed contacts, thereby providing the protection of the contacts.

  • Publication number: 20040166710
Abstract: An electrical connector assembly includes an electrical connector (2) and a pick up cap (1) rotatably attached onto the connector to provide a flat top surface. The connector defines two spaced chambers (2200) in a middle portion of an end thereof, and forms an engaging wall (211) in a middle of an opposite end thereof. The pick up cap includes a smooth top surface (111), two spaced mounting portions (1111) at an end thereof, and two spaced latch arms (1102) at an opposite end thereof. In assembly, the mounting portions of the pick up cap are firstly insert into the corresponding chambers of the housing. The pick up cap is then rotated downwardly about an axis defined above the chambers. The latch arms deflect outwardly and finally resiliently abut against the engaging wall of the housing. Thus, the pick up cap is securely fastened on the connector.

  • Patent number: 6780041
Abstract: An LGA connector (1) includes a connector body (2) fixed on a PCB (6), a clip (3), and a load lever (4). The connector body defines a plurality of passageways (230) receiving terminals therein. The load lever includes an operational arm (43), a pair of pivot axles (41) having an offset pressing portion (42) therebetween and extending from one end of the operational arm, and an operational portion (44). The operational portion includes a bending portion (441) bending upwardly from an opposite end of the operational arm, and a handle (442) extending upwardly and angularly relative to the operational arm from a distal end of the bending portion. When the connector is in a closed state, a distance between the handle and the PCB is greater than a distance between the operational arm and the PCB. This configuration helps prevent an operator's hand from being abraded or hurt.

  • Patent number: 6780025
Abstract: An electrical connector (1) includes a housing (2) receiving a plurality of contacts (7) therein, an actuator lever (5) assembled with the housing, a frame (4) hinged with the housing and a pair of reinforcement members (3) covering on the housing. The housing defines a pair of rail portions (26, 27) thereon and the reinforcement member defines a pair of guiding slots (312, 322), which enables the reinforcement members to be mounted on the housing by means of sliding on the rail portions. The reinforcement members protect the housing from bending or distortion by the frame when the frame presses down on an IC module received in the housing. This facilitates reliable electrical connection between the IC module and a PCB on which the housing is mounted.

  • Patent number: 6780024
Abstract: An electrical connector (1) includes a base (11) receiving contacts therein, an actuator lever (15), and a frame (14) hinged with the base. The base defines orientation slots (1141). Each orientation slot includes a guide channel (1142) and a fastening channel (1143). A reinforcement plate (12) includes fastening locks (121). Each fastening lock includes a connecting portion (122), and a distal fastening portion (123). When the reinforcement plate is attached onto the base, the fastening locks are initially received in the guide channels. The reinforcement plate is then slid horizontally so that the fastening portions are interferingly received in the fastening channels. The reinforcement plate protects the base from bending or distortion by the frame when the frame presses down on an IC module received in the base. This facilitates reliable electrical connection between the IC module and a PCB on which the base is mounted.

  • Patent number: 6776625
Abstract: An LGA connector assembly (1) includes an insulative base (10) receiving a number of electrical contacts (14), a metal reinforcement (11) covering the base, a lever (13) and a metal clip (12) pivotally mounted to two opposite sides of the base respectively. The base defines a cavity (100) in a middle thereof and eight rectangular holes (1031) near the cavity. The reinforcement includes a planar portion (111) and eight projecting members (1110) extending perpendicularly from the planar portion. Each projecting member can be fittingly received in the corresponding hole of the base. Thus, during rotating the lever to engage with the metal clip to tightly attach a CPU in the cavity of the LGA connector assembly, the base is hard enough to withstand forces from the clip and the lever.

  • Patent number: 6776642
Abstract: An electrical connector assembly (1) includes a base (10), a fixing member (11), and a clip (13). The base defines at least one installation portion (12, 15). The fixing member is pivotally engaged with the installation portion, and comprises an actuator (110) movably engaged in the at least one installation portion. The clip is attached to the base opposite from the at least one installation portion, and comprises a groove (130) defining a first corner (131) and a second corner (132) adapted to cooperate with the actuator. The actuator can slide from the first corner to the second corner when the fixing member engages with the clip, whereby no lateral movement of the clip relative to the base occurs. Thus, a LGA IC module (2) can be fixed on the electrical connector assembly reliably.
