  • Publication number: 20090226987
Abstract: Disclosed are isolated polynucleotides encoding an omega-3 desaturase and a delta-12 desaturase, the enzymes encoded by the isolated polynucleotides, vectors containing the isolated polynucleotides, transgenic hosts that contain the isolated polynucleotides that express the enzymes encoded thereby, methods for producing the desaturase enzymes, and method of using the enzymes to make polyunsaturated fatty acids. The isolated polynucleotides are derived from a fungus, Saprolegnia diclina (ATCC 56851). In particular, omega-3-desaturase may be utilized, for example, in the conversion of arachidonic acid (AA) to eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). Delta-12 desaturase may be used, for example, in the conversion of oleic acid (OA) to linoleic (LA). EPA or polyunsaturated fatty acids produced therefrom may be added to pharmaceutical compositions, nutritional compositions, animal feeds, as well as other products such as cosmetics.

  • Patent number: 7531347
Abstract: The present invention relates to fatty acid desaturases able to catalyze the conversion of oleic acid to linoleic acid, linoleic acid to ?-linolenic acid, or of alpha-linolenic acid to stearidonic acid. Nucleic acid sequences encoding desaturases, nucleic acid sequences which hybridize thereto, DNA constructs comprising a desaturase gene, and recombinant host microorganism or animal expressing increased levels of a desaturase are described. Methods for desaturating a fatty acid and for producing a desaturated fatty acid by expressing increased levels of a desaturase are disclosed. • Patent number: 7495891
Abstract: A solid capacitor and the manufacturing method thereof are disclosed. The solid capacitor consists of a dielectric layer and two electrodes. A plurality of holes formed by an opening process is disposed on surface of the dielectric layer. The two electrodes connect with the dielectric layer by the holes. By means of a plurality of high temperature volatile matters, the plurality of holes is formed on surface of the dielectric layer during sintered process. The holes are connected with the outside so as to increase surface area of the dielectric layer and further the capacity is increased. And the solid capacitor stores charge by physical means. Moreover, the solid capacitor can be stacked repeatedly to become a multilayer capacitor.

  • Publication number: 20090046413
Abstract: The method for manufacturing a supercapacitor according to the present invention includes the following steps. First, stack a bottom electrode plate and a top electrode plate in parallel. Then, install a first rubber frame and a second rubber frame face-to-face on the bottom and the top electrode plates. The first rubber frame is adapted with a first opening, while the second rubber frame is adapted with a second opening. Next, install an isolation membrane in a space surrounded by the first and the second rubber frames. Afterwards, bind the first and the second rubber frames. Then, produce vacuum in the space. Next, place the bottom and the top electrode plates into an electrolyte to make the electrolyte flow into the space. Finally, use a first resin to seal the first and the second openings. Thereby, the short-circuit phenomenon caused by long-term usage of the supercapacitor can be prevented.

  • Publication number: 20090027056
Abstract: Improvements both in the methods whereby existing techniques for determining the condition of a battery are communicated to a user (for example, to the owner of a private vehicle, or to the service manager of a fleet of vehicles), or the vehicle's operating system, and in the methods for evaluating the condition of the battery are disclosed. It has been discovered by the inventors that the difference in internal resistance of a fully charged battery as measured during charging and as measured after charging is greater for a battery in poor condition than for a new battery. The invention relates in part to instruments and corresponding methods for evaluating the condition of a battery utilizing this discovery.

  • Publication number: 20080191672
Abstract: The present invention related to a voltage-stabilizing circuit in the power supply apparatus of automobiles, and comprising a battery, a voltage-stabilizing capacitor, and a switching circuit. The battery provides a voltage; the voltage-stabilizing capacitor couples to the battery, and stabilizes the output voltage of the power supply apparatus of the automobiles; and the switching circuit opens the circuit between the voltage-stabilizing capacitor and the battery when the voltage of the battery is detected to be smaller than a threshold value. Thereby, power consumption of the battery is reduced, and the voltage-stabilizing capacitor is protected and thus the lifetime thereof is lengthened.

  • Publication number: 20080094069
Abstract: A method for evaluating the condition of a battery comprises coupling a first power transistor as or as part of a first external load in series with the battery, coupling a second power transistor as or as part of a second external load in series with the battery, and conducting each power transistor to draw a transient large current from the battery while sampling the voltage across the battery and voltage across the load, from which the internal resistance of the battery can be determined. The internal resistance of the battery can then be compared with a predetermined nominal value to issue a warning if the battery is weak. The invention enables, for example, a driver to correctly know the actual condition of an automobile battery in substantially real time while consuming a minimum amount of power.

  • Publication number: 20080006882
Abstract: A spiral inductor with high quality factor for an integrated circuit (IC) is disclosed, in which the metal layers arranged under a spiral inductor layer are parallel-connected to each other by the use of interconnects so as to increase the thickness of the metal layer and thus effectively reduce the parasitic resistance of the spiral inductor. In a preferred aspect, the parasitic resistance of the spiral inductor is reduced by increasing the interconnects, used for connecting the spiral inductor layer and the metal layer arranged underneath the same. In another preferred aspect, an interconnect is formed under the spiral inductor layer while enabling the same to be disconnected from the metal layer directly under the spiral inductor layer, by which the quality factor of the spiral inductor is increased since the substantial sectional area of the spiral inductor layer is increased and thus the parasitic resistance of the spiral inductor is decreased.
