  • Publication number: 20080039525
Abstract: The present invention relates to a lipid system, and methods for using such a lipid system, containing specific relative ratios of omega-3, omega-6, and omega-9 fatty acids. The lipid system may be used independently or as a component of a nutritional product. A lipid system according to the present invention may contain omega-3 fatty acids, omega-6 fatty acids, and omega-9 fatty acids with the ratio of omegas-6 fatty acids to omega-3 fatty acids preferably being between 0.25:1 and 3:1, and the ratio of omega-9 fatty acids to omega-3 fatty acids preferably being between 0.4:1 and 3:1. The present invention also relates to methods for administering a lipid system or a nutritional product containing the lipid system to an individual.

  • Publication number: 20080006882
Abstract: A spiral inductor with high quality factor for an integrated circuit (IC) is disclosed, in which the metal layers arranged under a spiral inductor layer are parallel-connected to each other by the use of interconnects so as to increase the thickness of the metal layer and thus effectively reduce the parasitic resistance of the spiral inductor. In a preferred aspect, the parasitic resistance of the spiral inductor is reduced by increasing the interconnects, used for connecting the spiral inductor layer and the metal layer arranged underneath the same. In another preferred aspect, an interconnect is formed under the spiral inductor layer while enabling the same to be disconnected from the metal layer directly under the spiral inductor layer, by which the quality factor of the spiral inductor is increased since the substantial sectional area of the spiral inductor layer is increased and thus the parasitic resistance of the spiral inductor is decreased.

  • Publication number: 20070194791
Abstract: A method comprises coupling a first power transistor as a first external load in series with the battery, coupling a second power transistor as a second external load in series with the battery, conducting each power transistor to supply a transient large current to the battery for sampling a group of sampled reference voltages and sampled load voltages in a very transient sampling time for a plurality of times and thus obtaining an internal resistance of the battery. The internal resistance of the battery can then be compared with a predetermined warning value thereof so as to determine whether the former is equal to or larger than the warning value or not, and issuing a warning through an I/O if the determination is affirmative. The invention enables a driver to correctly know the actual condition of the battery in substantially real time while consuming a minimum amount of power.

  • Patent number: 7241619
Abstract: The subject invention relates to the identification of genes involved in the desaturation of polyunsaturated fatty acids at carbon 5 (i.e., “?5-desaturase”) and at carbon 6 (i.e., “?6-desaturase”) and to uses thereof. In particular, ?5-desaturase may be utilized, for example, in the conversion of dihomo-?-linolenic acid (DGLA) to arachidonic acid (AA) and in the conversion of 20:4n-3 to eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). Delta-6 desaturase may be used, for example, in the conversion of linoleic (LA) to ?-linolenic acid (GLA). AA or polyunsaturated fatty acids produced therefrom may be added to pharmaceutical compositions, nutritional compositions, animal feeds, as well as other products such as cosmetics.
