  • Publication number: 20050009140
Abstract: The subject invention relates to the identification of several genes involved in the elongation of polyunsaturated acids (i.e., “elongases”) and to uses thereof. At least two of these genes are also involved in the elongation of monounsaturated fatty acids. In particular, elongase is utilized in the conversion of gamma linolenic acid (GLA) to dihomogamma linolenic acid (DGLA) and in the conversion of AA to adrenic acid (ADA), or eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) to ?3-docosapentaenoic acid (DPA). DGLA may be utilized in the production of polyunsaturated fatty acids, such as arachidonic acid (AA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), EPA, adrenic acid, ?6-docosapentaenoic acid or ?3-docosapentaenoic acid which may be added to pharmaceutical compositions, nutritional compositions, animal feeds, as well as other products such as cosmetics.

  • Patent number: 6791464
Abstract: An apparatus of monitoring motor vehicle's electric power and method thereof are provided. The apparatus is disposed in the motor vehicle and includes a monitor and alarm device parallel connected to both a battery to be measured and a starting motor of the motor vehicle. The starting motor is taken as a load for forming an outer loop sampling circuit, 1/t second is set as a sampling time interval during discharging, voltage and current curves are formed by connecting a plurality of continuous voltage values each sampled in 1/t second, a minimum voltage of the voltage curve is compared with a predetermined alarm value for determining a status of the battery to be measured, and an alarm is issued in time if the status of the battery to be measured is abnormal.

  • Publication number: 20040132819
Abstract: Products, including nutritional products, dietary supplements and formulas, that contain long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPs or LC-PUFAs), specifically n-3 LCPs like DHA. Also a methods of using such products to control appetite and help treat and/or prevent obesity and conditions of overweight, especially in a pediatric population. Dietary DHA can act centrally as an antagonist of the CB1 receptor in the brain in opposition to the endocannabinoids that increase food intake. This is particularly advantageous when DHA is fed during periods of rapid brain growth such as infancy, childhood and adolescence.

  • Patent number: 6704629
Abstract: A method and a device for monitoring a motor vehicle's electric power, in which the method comprises the steps of sampling, calculating, comparing, displaying results, and counting intervals, and the device comprises a stabilizing circuit, a CPU, a voltage sampling circuit, a current control circuit, and a color lamp display circuit. The step of sampling is performed when the load and power transistor are enabled (i.e., there is a great amount of current) and with a very short sampling time so that the invention can inform a driver about a status of a battery by consuming very little power.
