Patent number: 4307479Abstract: A rotary brush assembly, suitable for use in a vacuum cleaner, is disclosed. The assembly includes a generally cylindrical brush roller body carrying an array of helical rows of bristle tufts. In one embodiment, bristle tufts near a midplane normal to the roller body axis and equidistant between its ends are substantially normal to the roller body axis. Other bristle tufts are angled away from the midplane in an amount which is an increasing function of their distance from the midplane. Bristle stiffness is an increasing function of the degree of tuft angulation. In another embodiment, the roller body defines helical grooves in its outer surface, and two brush strip substrate portions bearing the bristle tufts are inserted end to end in each groove. Adjacent brush strip ends define structure for interlocking the brush strips for inhibiting longitudinal separation of the brush strips, which would otherwise tend to result from brush rotation.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 1979Date of Patent: December 29, 1981Assignee: Superior Brush CompanyInventors: Richard H. Patent number: 4307496Abstract: This invention is concerned with a new textile product in the form of a lace strip which is entirely warp-knitted with sinuate scallops. The scallops are manufactured from bent scallop-forming yarns and picots of which one end protrudes outwardly in a U-shape configuration. The novel lace strips are manufactured by forming chain stitch lines in step-like indentation by overlapping the scallop-forming yarns and passing the yarns in turn through a plurality of needles. Simultaneously picot-forming yarns are transversely positioned to produce protrusions from the scallops. In order to separate the scallops and their picots, the parts of the knitted fabric to be readily separated, said scallops and attached picots are knitted to soluble yarns which are subsequently dissolved to facilitate separation.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 1979Date of Patent: December 29, 1981Assignee: Takeda Lace Co., Ltd.Inventors: Noboru Nakagaki, Yoyu Fujikawa

Patent number: 4307497Abstract: A method is disclosed for the treatment of textile yarns of filamentary material, such as glass fiber yarns. The yarn passes through a fluid jet which includes a central chamber which is formed from a pair of interconnected and overlapping passageways. Each passageway includes one or more fluid inlets along its length to allow treating fluid to pass circumferentially around each passageway in a counterdirectional pattern. The textile yarn passes between the passageways in the chamber and the filaments in the yarn are entangled with each other to consolidate and round the yarn without a true or false twist being placed on the yarn. Depending upon the amount of tension in the yarn, the fluid pressure in the jet and the speed of the yarn through the jet, the degree of entanglement can be varied. Under low to zero tensions, texturized yarns and yarns having slubs thereon can be produced.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 1977Date of Patent: December 29, 1981Assignee: PPG Industries, Inc.Inventor: Warren W. Patent number: 4307517Abstract: A thin, rigid plane of plastic, wood or heavy card stock approximately 9 inches on a side to define a square is arranged to engage a person's chest. A right angle 90.degree. protractor in turn is secured to the stock with the zero angle line extending along the surface of the device. A weighted pointer hangs free to indicate on the protractor the chest angle to the vertical; that is, the inclination angle of the member to the vertical which in turn determines the chest angle. This chest angle is the same angle to be provided in a control (bust) dart. In other words, this chest angle corresponds to the angle needed to be taken up in the control (bust) dart of the bodice of the pattern for a garment to bring the cross grain line of the fabric to the necessary horizontal position for a proper unwrinkled fit. Other appropriate measurements are made cooperating with the dart angle measurement described to define proper positioning for the dart, so that a proper unwrinkled fit is assured.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 1980Date of Patent: December 29, 1981Inventor: Mignon Casselberry

The gas stream is bubbled through a substantially horizontal liquid layer or can pass between liquid film conducting elements. The desiccant liquid is continuously regenerated. By means of several partial gas streams and a contacting device having more separated liquid film modules, a counter-current type of drying is possible. The product to be dried can be heated to a predetermined temperature by the desiccant liquid through the drying gas stream.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 1979Date of Patent: December 29, 1981Assignee: Energiagazdalkodasi IntezetInventors: Laszlo Szucs, Andras Horvath, Emod Sigmond, Gyorgy Waermer

Patent number: 4307523Abstract: A street clearing device comprises a share member mounted on a propulsion vehicle. A rotary member is rotatably supported below the share member. The rotary member carries a hard scraping blade and an elastic scraping blade mounted at spaced locations so that the blades may be alternately disposed in an operative position with respect to a surface to be cleared. The orientation of the rotary member is determined by an actuating assembly which includes a toggle lever and an adjustable mounting member connected to the toggle lever for adjusting the latter and thereby selectively rotate the rotary member. The actuating assembly further includes a spring operatively connected to the toggle lever to enable the toggle lever to yield in response to the hard blade striking an obstruction, but preventing the toggle lever from yielding when the elastic blade is in the operative position.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 1979Date of Patent: December 29, 1981Assignee: Harro ReissingerInventors: Gottfried Reissinger, Harro Reissinger

Patent number: 4307524Abstract: An ice removing attachment for a vehicle includes an ice cutting roller rotatably supported transversely of a vehicle and including a plurality of spaced apart cutting discs having a plurality of circumferentially staggered cutting blades extended transversely between adjacent discs. Forward and rearward scraper blades are supported rearwardly of the roller for scraping away ice cut by the roller. The forward scraper blade has a plurality of teeth along the lower edge thereof defining open spaces between them. The rearward scraper blade has a lower scraper edge which is continuous along at least those transverse positions which follow in the path of the open spaces in the forward scraper blade. The roller and blades may be supported at the front of or beneath the vehicle or both. Roller portions at the front of the vehicle may be made steerable and, in certain embodiments, a toggle mechanism may be provided for rigidifying the vehicle suspension when the ice removing attachment is in operation.Type: GrantFiled: June 3, 1980Date of Patent: December 29, 1981Assignee: Leaf Enterprises, Inc.Inventor: Leonard E. Patent number: 4307525Abstract: An efficient dredging device is disclosed, which includes a submersible pump having one or more chambers. Each chamber defines an air port through which air can be delivered to and exhausted from the chamber, and a material discharge port for discharging liquid and solid material from the chamber. A check valve is associated with the discharge port to prohibit the return of discharged material to the chamber. A chamber suction port admits liquid and solid material to the chamber, and a check valve prohibits the escape of material from the chamber through the suction port. Air control means are provided for cyclicly exhausting air from the chamber to admit material to the chamber through the suction port, and for delivering air to the chamber so as to discharge material from the chamber through the discharge port. A rotatable cutter member cuts material to be dredged, and pipes connect the cutter to the chamber discharge port.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 1979Date of Patent: December 29, 1981Assignee: AMTEC Development CompanyInventor: Richard Maloblocki

Patent number: 4307527Abstract: A method of manufacturing a display device for displaying the function of a switch or the like. A body is formed with a cavity, and a sheet bearing a display is then positioned in the bottom cavity. The cavity is then filled with a transparent synthetic epoxy resin with a poly-oxy-propylene-amine for curing. Preferably a small amount of the material is placed on the bottom of the cavity before the display sheet is installed in order to secure the sheet to the bottom and prevent it from warping after the remaining resin is added.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 1980Date of Patent: December 29, 1981Assignee: Three Bond Co., Ltd.Inventor: Masakatsu Suzuki
