  • Patent number: 4307537
Abstract: An airborne, free floating, lift-weight balanced toy for manual manipulation includes a closed envelope of polyethylene terephthalate (Mylar) filled with helium. The envelope is exactly counterbalanced with one or more ballast members so that the toy will assume a position at a desired distance from the floor or ground when it is let free. Such ballast members are made up of a plurality of weight control modules spirally arranged with respect to each other and held onto the skin of the toy by double face adhesive. In one form of the invention, when such a toy is initially filled with helium and a ballast member is in place, it will have a static balance such that one portion will always come back to being the bottom portion. In a second form, two ballast members are placed so that the toy will remain oriented in space in whatever position it is manually placed, if there are no outside effects except gravity and the lifting effect of the helium working on it.

  • Patent number: 4307542
Abstract: A window with a sash mounted in a frame has elongated draft stops extending along the rails of the sash. The draft stops are disposed in the frame and normally project out to overlap the sash rails. The draft stops are retractible outwardly beyond the outer edges of the rails and the sash is mounted to turn about its vertical centerline when the draft stops are retracted. When a handle mounted in the frame is turned in one direction, it operates a mechanism to retract the lower draft stop. The side draft stops retract in response to retraction of the lower draft stop and this, in turn, raises the upper draft stop so that all of the draft stops are retracted together. Turning the handle in the opposite direction returns all of the draft stops to their projected or active position.

  • Patent number: 4307567
Abstract: A chain shackle has a U-shaped body with flat parallel limbs interconnected by a bight portion with a longitudinal slit accommodating an end link of a chain which is engaged inside the shackle by a half-link resting against the inner surface of the bight portion. • Patent number: 4307568
Abstract: A gas turbine power plant, such as a gas turbine engine for a motor vehicle, having a gas turbine, a combustor for producing hot gas to drive the turbine, and an air compressor for furnishing compressed air to the combustor. A heat exchanger, such as a rotary regenerator or a cross-flow recuperator, is located between the air compressor and the combustor for heating air by exhaust gas from the turbine before the air enters the combustor. The air leaving the exit of the heat exchanger decreases in temperature in a direction from one end of the exit to the other. A plurality of separate ducts conduct air from successive areas along the length of the heat exchanger exit to corresponding successive regions along the length of the combustor, the air temperature being lower in each succeeding duct. The lowest temperature air is conducted to the region containing a forward portion, e.g.

  • Patent number: 4307569
Abstract: A double-acting Stirling engine has a central axis and four cylinders disposed along a straight line which intersects the central axis. Four regenerator/cooler units are disposed in a circle which is concentric with the axis. A tube system which connects the cylinders to the regenerator/cooler units includes first and second rings, both of which are formed of sets of tubes, and both of which are concentric with the central axis. The tubes in the first ring are connected to upper hot spaces of the cylinders; and, the tubes in the other ring are connected to the regenerators and to one of the tubes in the first ring.

  • Patent number: 4307570
Abstract: A servo booster is provided with a tube coaxial with the booster output rod for relieving the booster housing of braking reaction forces. The housing of a tandem master cylinder has an externally threaded rear end which is threadedly engaged with internal threads formed on a reduced diameter front part of the tube. The retracted position of the primary piston of the master cylinder is determined by abutment with the booster output rod, and this can be adjusted by turning the master cylinder housing relative to the tube.

  • Patent number: 4307571
Abstract: A rotatable device having outwardly extending weighted arms of thermally expandable material is supported for rotation about an axis arranged at an angle to the vertical. The device is exposed to the sun or other source of radiant energy, causing the arms to expand lengthwise. A sun shield is provided over a portion of the area of movement of the arms so that when they move out of the shade of the shield, they expand lengthwise and whey they move into such shade, they contract. The resultant differential lengthening of the arms establishes an unbalance of moments of gravitational force in the arms to thereby apply a continuous torque to the assembly.

  • Patent number: 4307572
Abstract: An externally cooled, absorption engine apparatus and method, the apparatus including a closed cycle system having a first fluid and a second fluid, the first fluid constituting a working fluid and having a relatively lower boiling point while the second fluid constitutes a solvent for the first fluid and has a relatively higher boiling point and a relatively high degree of absorptivity for the first fluid. The apparatus further includes a distillation column, a superheater, a mechanical expansion engine, an externally cooled absorption column, and heat exchange apparatus. The distillation column separates the first fluid or working fluid from the solvent with heat energy supplied by an external combustion source and the superheater increases the thermal energy thereof prior to passing the working fluid through the mechanical expansion engine. The mechanical expansion engine converts thermal engine in the working fluid vapor to mechanical energy.

  • Patent number: 4307573
Abstract: A comparatively low heat differential is utilized for energy generation wherein flow of a fluid from a low temperature reservoir to a high temperature reservoir is maintained by the weight of the fluid, for example through utilization of centrifugal force provided as the vaporized fluid from the high temperature reservoir operates a gas turbine. Evaporation cooling is preferably employed in establishing the temperature differential.

  • Patent number: 4307576
Abstract: An air conditioning system comprises an outdoor unit and a plurality of indoor units, a plurality of delivery conduits for supplying working fluid from a variable capacity energy source located in the outdoor unit to the indoor units, and a plurality of control valves respectively provided in the delivery conduits. A temperature sensor and a reference temperature setting device are provided for each room for transmitting corresponding temperature data to a central control unit. The central control unit detects whether the sensed temperature of each room is increasing or decreasing as a function of time and whether the sensed temperature is above or below a predetermined temperature associated with a value established by the reference setting device. Based upon these data the central control unit provides a control signal for closing the valve to divert a certain amount of the total supply energy to other rooms.
