  • Patent number: 4339893
Abstract: An improved hub assembly is utilized to rotatably mount a grinding wheel. The hub assembly includes a hub which engages a first major side surface of the grinding wheel. A circular clamp member is mounted on the hub by a plurality of fasteners. An annular flange ring circumscribes the clamp member and engages a second major side surface of the grinding wheel. The clamp member has radially extending arms which engage the flange ring and press it against the grinding wheel. A cover is mounted on the flange ring and extends over the fasteners. When the grinding wheel is to be removed from the hub assembly, the fasteners are loosened by inserting a suitable tool though openings in the cover. Loosening the fasteners enables the annular flange ring to be rotated relative to the clamp member until the radially extending arms on the clamp member are aligned with radially extending recesses formed inside the flange ring.

  • Patent number: 4339928
Abstract: A freezing unit for use in a cold chamber to effect freezing of a load of pre-cooked food packages at a rate more rapid than the freezing rate of that load that would take place in the chamber in the absence of the unit. The unit includes a vertical plenum provided with a perforated wall and having an open input and a closeable output. The food packages are stacked in a rack adjacent the perforated wall of the plenum, with air spaces between the packages. Cold air drawn from the chamber atmosphere at a temperature below the freezing point of the food is forced into the input of the plenum to produce a positive pressure therein when the output is closed, thereby causing the pressurized cold air to penetrate the perforated plenum wall and pass through the air spaces in the stack at high velocity, the air returning to the cold chamber whereby rapid cooling of the packages is effected.

  • Patent number: 4339931
Abstract: The method permits mass-producing axially retained tripod joints having high rigidity and a given prestressing force which is reproducible from one joint to another. According to this method, after having clipped a resiliently yieldable attachment onto a tulip-shaped element of the joint while the joint is in its assembled position, the value of the gap between the shoulder of a thrust member and a bearing surface of a hub carrying the trunnions is determined for the position of the joint in which the hub and tulip-shaped member are in alignment and the thrust member is axially shifted away from the hub and there is introduced in the gap produced between the thrust member and the hub a shim the thickness of which is chosen to be slightly larger than the gap.

  • Patent number: 4339932
Abstract: Machine for knitting a tubular fabric, in particular stocking articles, comprising a needle cylinder, a cylinder holder, a dial, suction and discharge ducts for the produced tubular fabric and means for driving the cylinder holder. A shaft extends coaxially through the needle cylinder and the cylinder holder and is affixed to the dial. A tube-like body is mounted coaxially within the cylinder holder wherewith it rotates. The tube-like body is displaceable axially in the cylinder holder from a position whereat it is coupled directly to and made rigid for rotation with the shaft, to a position whereat it forms with the shaft at least one annular passage for communication with the suction and discharge ducts for the produced tubular fabric. A control member is provided of essentially lever-like configuration for axially displacing the tube-like body.

  • Patent number: 4339938
Abstract: A flat skelp is longitudinally fed through convex and concave horizontal rolls, and is edge-crimped so that both edges are curved inward symmetrical to the pass line. The edge-crimped skelp is forced through a plurality of cage rolls disposed along and symmetrical to the pass line. The cage rolls perform intermediate forming that shapes mainly the uncrimped portion of the skelp toward a round form symmetrical to the pass line. The nearly rounded skelp is then subjected to finish-forming, with the fin of a finned-roll inserted in the gap between the edges. The edge-crimping process includes two or more stages; bending the outermost edges of the skelp and subsequent bending of the inward portion adjacent to the first bent edges.

  • Patent number: 4339939
Abstract: The method of drawing uniformly heavy walled parts in a multiple plunger machine without any intermediate anneals and a machine for carrying out the method. The method comprises a number of press operations which convert a flat blank to a final desired drawn configuration, the relatively uniform wall thickness being maintained throughout the operation by the mouth configuration of each die and by means of supplemental sleeves that assist the punches in extending the drawn shells into the dies with no stretch to the metal or thinning of walls. Work hardening due to stretch or tensile load is minimized allowing more deformation without anneals.
