  • Patent number: 5367875
Abstract: The automated catalytic reduction system for an engine exhaust stream includes an oxidation catalyst spaced from a selective catalytic reduction catalyst for reducing nitrogen oxides. A reducing agent is introduced into the space between the two catalysts and is controlled in volume by a volume control valve. Transducers connected to the engine provide real time engine operating parameter signals to a processor which has stored map data indicating instantaneous nitrogen oxide values for various engine loads. The processor selects an instantaneous nitrogen oxide value in response to the engine condition signals and uses this value to calculate a setpoint value for comparison with the flow volume of the reducing agent. Any difference resulting from this comparison causes the processor to operate the control valve to equalize the flow volume with the setpoint value.

  • Patent number: 5367877
Abstract: An axle driving apparatus which houses a hydraulic transmission and axles in an axle casing. A pump shaft projects outwardly from the axle casing for inputting engine power. A power take-off shaft, connected in association with the pump shaft, is juxtaposed with the pump shaft in the axle casing, whereby there is no need to separately provide a power take-off route from the engine to the hydraulic transmission. A power transmission route from the engine to the hydraulic transmission is also used as a power take-off route, thereby enabling the power take-off shaft to be driven. The power take-off shaft is juxtaposed in the vicinity of the axle casing to simplify power transmission from the power take-off shaft to a working machine.

  • Patent number: 5367907
Abstract: A liquid level indicator comprising a rod (10) of insulating material. The rod is a carrier for two parallel helically wound resistance wires (12, 13) and is surrounded by a float (11) of insulating material displaceable along the rod (10) by variations in the liquid level. The resistance wires are connected to electrically conducting contact by means of a contact element (14) arranged on the float (11) with resilient contact plates arranged on each side of the rod for respective resistance wires. In this manner a circuit through the wires (12, 13) and the contact element is achieved whose resistance varies depending on the position of the float (11) along the rod (10). In order to improve the float's ability to follow variations in the liquid level, the contact element (14) is pivotably carried on the float (11) so that the contact element can pivot somewhat about an axis which normally is directed transversely to the longitudinal direction of the rod (10).

  • Patent number: 5367910
Abstract: A gas flow meter uses the principle of Boyle's law to measure the gas flow rate along a path. Gas flows through a valve into a reservoir until the pressure is maximized in the volume. The valve then vents the reservoir to ambient while blocking the inlet path. The pressure at maximum and minimum values is measured by a pressure sensor and used to generate the flow rate signal. An enlarged volume in the inlet path limits the pressure rise during the exhaust phase of the measurement cycle.

  • Patent number: 5367913
Abstract: In a pinion shift device for a starter of the type employing a semicircular ring-shaped shift plate, the device is constructed such that the shift plate is easily assembled to a shift lever to be suitable for automatization, slide contact portions between the clutch body and the shift plate and/or between the shift flange and the shift plate are less subjected to overflow or exhaustion of grease and give rise to a smaller extent of wear, and thus service life of the device is prolonged. A semicircular ring-shaped portion of the shift plate is loosely fitted in an axial gap between a clutch body and a shift flange integral with a clutch sleeve. A recessed groove for storing grease therein is provided in at least one of paired opposite side faces between the semicircular ring-shaped portion of the shift plate and the clutch body as well as the shift flange. The shift lever and the shift plate are both molded using resin.

Abstract: A countershaft transmission has an input shaft and a coaxial output shaft which are disposed in parallel with a pair of countershafts. The countershafts position and support a floating bearing support which is positioned to support ends of the input and output shafts. The countershafts each have a selectively engageable clutch disposed thereon which selectively control the establishment of drive ratios between the input shaft and the respective countershafts. A plurality of forward and reverse ratios are selectively established, between the input and output shafts through the countershafts, by selectively engaging a plurality of synchronizers. The synchronizers cooperate with a plurality of ratio gears on the countershafts and output shaft to establish the ratios. The ratio gears that establish the lowest forward ratios are fully disengageable from their respective countershafts.

  • Patent number: 5367915
Abstract: Varying fluid pressure varies the thickness of an elastic spacer between ball nuts of the ball screw. The spacer thickness determines opposed axial forces applied to the ball nuts. During a high-speed excursion of the screw, pressure in the elastic spacer is reduced, thus reducing friction between the ball nuts and the screw. When the screw is being fine positioned for precise operation, pressure in the elastic spacer is increased, thereby urging the ball nuts apart to eliminate play in the ball screw.

  • Patent number: 5367919
Abstract: The hub of a composite flywheel is made of cast steel and comprises an axial extension with an external surface which is a press fit in a disc-shaped element of the primary flywheel of the composite flywheel. A centrally located through hole of the hub is surrounded by a second surface constituting a seat for and being a press fit on the outer race of a pilot bearing for the input element of a variable-speed transmission receiving torque from the composite flywheel through a friction clutch. The extension is made yieldable so that its fitting into the disc-shaped element does not result in deformation of the second surface and does not cause problems in connection with installation of the pilot bearing in the hub. Moreover, the clearance between the pilot bearing and the hub cannot be reduced below a value which could entail premature wear upon the bearing and would shorten the useful life of the composite flywheel.

The flywheel comprises a first rotating mass having a central hub and secured to the engine crankshaft by securing screws each having a head; a second rotating mass comprising a plate which is typically the clutch reaction plate and which carries an outer hub within it; a torsion damper; and a bearing which is interposed radially between the two hubs. The securing screws lie radially outside the bearing. The outer hub has openings through which the heads of the screws can be fitted, and a removable retaining ring is fitted at the level of these openings, to prevent loss of the screws before assembly to the crankshaft and to enable individual broken screws to be removed if necessary.

Abstract: An R-N-D control valve of a hydraulic control system is disclosed which ensures the prevention of shock that may occur at the time of an "N-R" and an "N-D" manual shift, by unifying a shift control pressure with one valve in the case of an "N-R" shift and an "N-D" shift and first-second speed shift. The present invention discloses that a line pressure generated from a manual valve is changed to a control pressure controlled by the proportional control of a linear valve, and transmitted to each clutch and brake according to the movement position of a spool of a valve by the line pressure.
