  • Patent number: 6070367
Abstract: A folding stage includes a folding linkage with cross members and a center lock. The center lock has a handle below the cross members and off to the side of the cross members to prevent pinching of operators' hands and fingers. The folding linkage folds from a use position wherein stage decks are horizontal to form a stage surface to a storage position wherein the bottom of the stage decks oppose one another. In the fully folded position, stage support legs are angled inward slightly. Casters mount at an oblique angle to the telescoping legs and are moved closer to the telescoping legs to decrease the moment of inertia about the legs while maintaining sufficient contact with the floor. Torsion bars mount at the pivoting access of the frame and the telescoping legs to control folding speed. The folding portions of the frame and decks have a center of gravity which is aligned with the pivoting access to decrease the moment of inertia about the pivoting axis.

  • Patent number: 6070405
Abstract: A control system for controlling the rotational speed of a turbine for producing electrical power and a method for controlling the rotational speed of a turbine during load shedding include a control structure. The control structure can be connected to an actuator, which is used to control the rotational speed, and the control structure is used to control the rotational speed of the turbine during idling and/or insular operation of the turbine. An error signal which is dependent on a difference between a setpoint value and an actual value of the rotational speed, can be supplied to the control structure. During load shedding, the control structure supplies a closing signal to the actuator as a function of the error signal. The control structure combines the function of controlling the rotational speed during idling and/or insular operation of the turbine with the function of avoiding rapid shutdown of the turbine when load shedding occurs.

  • Patent number: 6070406
Abstract: The present invention provides a valve and a low pressure drop combustor bypass. The valve simultaneously controls both the supply of air to the premixer, and the amount of air directed into a large bypass duct. Air entering the bypass duct is reintroduced into the gas flowpath as dilution air downstream of the combustion zone. At low power settings the valve directs most of the air to the bypass duct, in effect bypassing the fixed area dilution ports, whereby the pressure drop across the combustor may be controlled at an optimal level.

  • Patent number: 6070407
Abstract: The fan duct of a ducted fan gas turbine engine is provided with a secondary duct at least partly within the downstream end of the primary duct. The secondary duct is provided with means such as flaps whereby the airflow therethrough may be varied to suit flight requirements of an associated aircraft, in a way which will control the maximum diameter of the free stream tube airflow at the intake of the engine, thus effectively reducing the frontal area of the fan duct, and therefor, drag.

  • Patent number: 6070409
Abstract: An engine for powering by water that includes a stator, a rotor rotatably mounted in the stator, and a plurality of blades movably mounted in the rotor. The stator has a throughchamber. The rotor is rotatably mounted in the throughchamber. By virtue of a throughbore in a top plate of the stator being offset from its longitudinal axis, a throughbore in a bottom plate of the stator being offset from its longitudinal axis, and a throughbore in the rotor being along its longitudinal axis, the rotor is offset in the throughchamber and has only one tangential point contacting a circular periphery of throughchamber at any one time as it rotates in the stator. The rotor rotates clockwise in the stator, by steam applying a greater force on a blade of a pair of blades of three blades that define a communicating power chamber that protrudes further than another blade of the pair of blades, by virtue of the fact that it presents a greater surface area exposed to the steam.

  • Patent number: 6070410
Abstract: A low emissions combustor includes a premixer for premixing liquid fuel and compressed air for achieving low NOx emissions without water or steam injection. The premixer includes a centerbody disposed in a shroud defining an annular flow channel extending between an inlet and outlet of the shroud. A plurality of fuel injection orifices are spaced circumferentially around the centerbody with each having an outlet being substantially flush with an outer surface of the centerbody. The fuel injection orifices inject liquid fuel into the flow channel wherein it is atomized by compressed air channeled through the shroud inlet. In a preferred embodiment, the fuel injection orifices are inclined at an acute angle for injection the fuel toward the shroud inlet to increase differential mixing velocity with the compressed air.

  • Patent number: 6070412
Abstract: The invention relates to a combustion chamber containing a number of aerohanical injectors mounted in the end of the chamber that connects the upstream end of two annular walls and which are supplied with fuel permanently during operation. The injectors are arranged in two concentric rows around the axis of symmetry and in pairs in longitudinal planes passing through the axis of symmetry. The injectors of the two rows are more or less equidistant from the outlet of the chamber and have axes directed toward the outlet. A carefully considered distribution of the primary holes, dilution holes and the air flow allows the emissions of oxides of nitrogen to be reduced.

  • Patent number: 6070414
Abstract: A cryogenic cooler and a dewar assembly including a cooled surface; a cooling surface for removing thermal energy from said cooled surface; and an adapter disposed between said cooling surface and the cooled surface for conducting thermal energy therebetween. A first fluid is disposed between the cooled surface and the adapter for conducting thermal energy from the cooled surface to the adapter. A second fluid is disposed between the cooling surface and the adapter for conducting thermal energy from the adapter to the cooling surface whereby the cooling surface remains free to move axially relative to the adapter at a temperature of the cooling surface at which the first fluid is susceptible to freezing. This allows for movement of the cold finger relative to the dewar and adapter, due to differential thermal coefficients of expansion or support structure motion, without adversely affecting the communication of thermal energy from the load.

  • Patent number: 6070415
Abstract: A miniature refrigeration system and method of operation. A primary refrigerant is pressurized by a compressor to a relatively low pressure, for safety reasons. The compressed primary refrigerant is passed through a primary-to-secondary heat exchanger, to precool the gas mixture. The secondary side of the primary-to-secondary heat exchanger is cooled by a secondary refrigeration system. The primary refrigerant exiting the primary outlet of the primary-to-secondary heat exchanger passes to a primary Joule-Thomson expansion element where the high pressure gas is expanded to a lower temperature. This low temperature gas cools a heat transfer element mounted in the outer wall of the catheter or cryoprobe, to cool surrounding tissue. Return gas can flow back through a distal primary-to-primary heat exchanger to further cool the incoming high pressure gas mixture. A proximal primary-to-primary heat exchanger can be added between the primary-to-secondary heat exchanger and the primary compressor.
