Abstract: A paging system uses a stationary personal computer to receive paging signals. The personal computer executes an instruction set, or software, which allows the personal computer to forward or process received page signals. By using a stationary personal computer, received page signals can be used to control the personal computer to contact external devices such as: other personal computers, telephones, fax machines, Internet locations, pagers, and household devices. The personal computer can store received page signals including origination identification information. A multiplex forwarding system can be used by providing identification header information.

Abstract: A mobile communication system employs narrow paging areas for calling mobile stations without increasing location registration requests to a location management center. This system reduces useless calls and improves the efficiency of use of radio resources. Each local area (1-3) of the system is divided into narrow paging areas (1-4). A storage unit (2-1) is installed in each base station (1-5) or exchange station (1-2), to register mobile stations (1-6). When a base station receives a location registration request from a mobile station, the base station registers the mobile station in the storage unit, and if necessary, transmits a location registration request to the location management center.

Abstract: A system and method using a simulated annealing algorithm in a cellular satellite communications network to assign frequency slots to cells in the network. The system and method employ a static stage in which certain frequencies in a non-uniform spectrum are assigned to cells depending upon the predicted traffic demand of all cells, and a dynamic stage which re-evaluates the real time traffic demand of the various cells and assigns or de-assigns frequencies on an as needed basis. The system and method thus delivers more frequencies to cells with a higher capacity enabling those cells to take on more traffic.

The mobile unit determines if the second zone is more preferable than the first zone when the mobile unit hands off from the first cell to the second cell. If the second zone is less preferable than the first zone, the mobile unit does not switch to the second zone within the second cell. If the second zone is more preferable, the first zone is maintained within the second cell until the signal strength of the second cell exceeds the signal strength of the first cell by an amount determined by an exit parameter. Abstract: A method of diminishing shift shock in a stepped shift mode in a continuously variable transmission. A continuously variable transmission having an automatic shift mode and a stepped shift mode possesses a shift shock diminishing control function. In this control, when shift-down is made in the stepped shift mode (S.1), a timer is allowed to start counting (S.2) and the magnitude of deceleration G during change of the change gear ratio by a control motor is compared with a threshold value (S.4), and if the deceleration magnitude is larger than the threshold value, the supply of electric power to the control motor is stopped for only a very short time to decrease the deceleration G, thereby diminishing the shift shock (S.5).

Abstract: In a direct drive type hydraulic pump, the displacement of the hydraulic pump is forcedly changed to a desired displacement according to an instruction of a channel different from a usual instruction, thereby changing to a desired displacement quickly with good responsivity. When an emergency brake switch is turned on, an emergency brake signal is entered an emergency brake control valve. Thus, an emergency brake signal pressure is entered a piston through an emergency brake signal oil passage, and a piston is forcedly positioned in a neutral position. In other words, the piston can be forcedly positioned in the neutral position according to the emergency brake signal regardless of the entry of a usual brake signal. Therefore, the displacement of the hydraulic pump can be forcedly changed to the neutral position (minimum displacement).

Abstract: A vehicle drive apparatus has a pump that supplies operating fluid for performing speed shift control of a power transfer apparatus, and a driving motor that drives the pump. If it is determined that the power transfer apparatus is in a neutral state (N range), it is then determined whether the vehicle is running. If the vehicle is running, it is determined whether the operation speed of the driving motor has reached a speed that allows the pump to produce a predetermined fluid pressure. If that speed has not been reached, the motor operation speed is controlled to the speed that allows the pump to produce the predetermined fluid pressure. The vehicle drive apparatus secures a pressure and a flow of fluid when the power transfer apparatus is operated to the neutral state during the running of the vehicle.

The incline assembly adjusts the inclination of the frame deck by rotating the frame deck relative to the upright assembly. The incline assembly also adjusts the inclination of the frame deck by increasing the elevation of the end of the frame deck adjacent to the upright assembly. The frame deck can also be folded upwardly towards the upright assembly. The frame deck also includes structural reinforcement to prevent flexing of the conveyor during use.

Abstract: A weight plate for use with a barbell or dumbbell which incorporates a plurality of handgrips formed near the peripheral surface of the weight plate. The handgrips have a transverse width and radial height sized to provide a convenient gripping point for individuals with smaller hands, such as women, children, or smaller men. These small circumference handgrips are indented from the outside edges of the weight plate to allow for more convenient manipulation of the weight when the weight abuts against a solid obstruction, such as another weight plate on a weight stack. This indentation of the hand grips also provides protection for the hands and fingers of a weight lifter manipulating the weight plate in a weight lifting environment. The location of the handgrips of the present invention also facilitate the lifting and transport of the weight plate in the weight lifting environment, by reducing the stresses on the weight lifter's shoulder joints.

The monitoring and control step is carried out by injecting an oxygen-containing gas into the zone where monitoring and control takes place, the monitoring and control step being carried out under conditions which are more severe than those in the combustion steps. The monitoring and control step is carried out with an oxygen consumption of less than 10%. The temperature advantageously remains substantially constant. The vessel for carrying out the invention is also claimed.
