  • Publication number: 20020005248
Abstract: A heat sink has a surface with a plurality of slots having mutually facing sidewalls which converge toward the base of the slot at an angle. Each slot receives an end portion of a cooling fin having sidewalls which converge at the same angle, so that the sidewalls of the slot are at least substantially parallel to the sidewalls of the cooling fin. The slots are preferably machined in the base and the sidewalls on the fins are machined or coined, yielding tolerances which are so close that the gap between parts is less than 60 microinches, and unfilled adhesive can be used. The thinness of the bond provides good thermal conductivity and reduced curing time. It is also possible to provide the slots with a slightly smaller angle so that the base deforms to accommodate the cooling fin and adhesive may be eliminated.

Abstract: Modified soy protein adhesives are provided which have increased bonding abilities. The adhesives are prepared by forming a dispersion of soy protein, water, and a modifier selected from two classes of modifiers. The preferred modifiers are urea, sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate, sodium dodecyl sulfate, and guanidine hydrochloride. The resulting dispersion is stirred, freeze-dried, and milled into a powder to be stored until use. The adhesives of the invention have superior bonding qualities while being safe for the environment. The urea-modified, GH-modified, SDS-modified, and SDBS-modified soy protein adhesives have higher water resistance than non-modified soy protein adhesives.

Coolant passes from the engine to cooler intake into manifold, through passages and axial manifold, and back to the engine through manifold and exit. The stator may be made of aluminum; the coolant may be water, or a water/glycol mixture. Abstract: A multi-stage liquid elevator which is assembled from individual stages is disclosed. Each elevator stage is fabricated from ordinary pipe components and has no moving parts. When inserted into an natural gas well, the elevator is powered by the gas pressure available in the well. Each elevator stage consists of a reservoir defined by a casing enclosing an inlet pipe and an outlet pipe. At each stage, the liquid and gas from the previous stage are forced into the inlet pipe and the liquid collects in the reservoir until enough gas pressure builds up in the stage to force the liquid up the outlet pipe to the next stage. A coupling connects any two stages of the elevator together. As many stages as required can be joined together to construct a multi-stage liquid elevator of any desired length. Each stage is fabricated to a length compatible with the available gas pressure.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for horizontally drilling in wells utilizing a shoe assembly at the down hole end of upset tubing. The shoe assembly includes a fixed section and a rotatable section suspended below the fixed section. An electric motor and associated batteries and a gyroscope carried on the rotatable section enable an operator on the surface to selectively rotate and position the rotatable section to any desired angular location for drilling a hole in the well casing. After one or more holes have been cut in the casing, a drill assembly can be removed from the upset tubing and be replaced by a high pressure blaster nozzle to bore into the formation zones. The gyroscope enables the operator to accurately position the rotatable section to the same locations at which the holes have been cut. The drill assembly includes an electric motor with an associated battery, flexible drive shaft, and a hole saw.

Abstract: An integrated water distribution network supplies the requirements of both domestic and fire protection water fixtures in a dwelling structure. The network includes a plurality of multiport fittings which are interconnected together with flexible conduits. A water release device, such as a sprinkler head or mist nozzle, is also coupled to the multiport fittings. The network is supplied water by a plurality of water supply lines which originate at a manifold. Individual water fixtures are connected to the distribution system through flexible lines. During use of a water fixture, water flow through at least a portion of the system is established. The distribution system can thus characterized as a “nonstagnant” water network for supplying both domestic and fire protection requirements of a structure.

Abstract: A hand held garden rake configured to enhance downward force for digging and raking. The rake has a rod frame which extends from tines located at the front end of the rake to a brace located at the rear of the rake. The frame is bent to extend back towards the front end of the rake, at which point the frame terminates in an upwardly extending handle. The brace rests on the forearm, so that additional force is developed when the tines of the rake are urged downwardly into the ground. The vertical orientation of the handle is more natural and comfortable than would be a horizontal orientation. The handle is provided with a molded grip for cooperating with a user's hand. The brace has a resilient cushion for comfort when pressing downwardly on the tines.

Abstract: This invention relates generally to an impact tool. The present invention provides a vibration isolated impact tool wherein an impact mechanism and a motor assembly are arranged into a cartridge assembly. An elastomeric member resiliently connects the cartridge assembly with a housing. The cartridge assembly is free to move axially and rotationally within the housing. The elastomeric member absorbs axial vibration and torsional vibration, reducing the vibration transmitted to an operator.

A bump formation etching mask 7 is formed on the bump formation side 3a of a metal foil 3 having a thickness (t1+t2) equal to the sum of the thickness t1 of a wiring circuit 1 and the height t2 of the bumps 2 to be formed on a wiring circuit 1, the bumps 2 are formed by half-etching the metal foil 3 from the bump formation etching mask 7 side down to a depth corresponding to a predetermined bump height t2, and a metal thin film layer 10 composed of a different metal from the metal foil 3 is formed on the bump formation side of the metal foil 3, thereby providing a bump-attached wiring circuit board with which stable bump connections are possible, and there is no need for bothersome operations such as plating pretreatments.

Abstract: A semiconductor device comprises a plurality of bump electrodes at least to one surface. A circuit substrate is formed with a laminate structure having an inner layer circuit and a mounting pad is formed on the substrate. The mounting pad has a concave portion and the bottom of the concave portion is in contact with the inner layer circuit. Further, an sealing resin is provided on the substrate. The bump electrode and the concave portion of the mounting pad are opposed, and the bump electrode is pressed to the bottom of the concave portion of the mounting pad, thereby deforming the pointed shape portion at the top end of the bump electrode. By the deformation the pointed shape portion, the contact portion between the bump electrode and the mounting pad is gradually enlarged from a point to a plane. After deforming the bump electrode by a predetermined amount, the sealing resin is hardened and the semiconductor device is mounted on a substrate.
