Patent number: 6506858Abstract: A process for the preparation of a catalyst material and the resultant catalyst material. The process comprises the steps of: (a) treating a particulate support material with an alkylating agent; (b) contacting the alkylating agent treated support material with a procatalyst; optionally (c) contacting the support material with an ionic catalyst activator, and optionally (d) recovering the catalyst-carrying support material. The process allows the simple and effective alkylation of procatalysts, such as metallocene procatalysts. The procatalyst comprises at least one triaza containing ligand.Type: GrantFiled: April 21, 2000Date of Patent: January 14, 2003Assignee: Borealis A/SInventors: Hikka Knuuttila, Kallee Kallio, Ove Andell

Patent number: 6506861Abstract: Olefins are polymerized by novel transition metal complexes of selected iminocarboxylate and iminoamido ligands, sometimes in the presence of cocatalysts such as alkylaluminum compounds or neutral Lewis acids. Olefins which may be (co)polymerized include ethylene, &agr;-olefins, and olefins containing polar groups such as olefinic esters for example acrylate esters. Also described are certain “Zwitterionic” transition metal complexes as polymerization catalysts for making polar copolymers. The resulting polymers are useful as thermoplastics and elastomers.Type: GrantFiled: May 31, 2001Date of Patent: January 14, 2003Assignee: E. Patent number: 6506862Abstract: The present invention provides a process for the preparation of a diene elastomer having a reduced amount of vinyl linkages, by anionic polymerization of one or more monomers comprising at least one conjugated diene monomer. The process for preparing the diene elastomer having a reduced amount of vinyl linkages comprises anionically polymerizing one or more monomers comprising at least one conjugated diene monomer in a polymerization medium comprising a hydrocarbon solvent, a polar agent comprising one or more heteroatoms and a monolitiated or polylithiated organolithiated initiator, wherein an organometallic complex of the formula LiAl(R)3(R′), in which Li is a lithium atom, Al is an aluminum atom, and R and R′ are each an alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl group, is added to the polymerization medium to produce the diene elastomer having a reduced amount of vinyl linkages.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 2001Date of Patent: January 14, 2003Assignee: Michelin Recherche et Technique S.A.Inventors: Jean-Luc Cabioch, Jean-Noël Gorce

Patent number: 6506865Abstract: The invention is related to a novel compound represented by NdHA4 wherein A is a carboxylate, and to a diene polymerization catalyst using the novel compound. NdHA4 has monomeric structure and does not contain water, bases and salts. NdHA4 is mixed with a halogen compound and an organic metal compound to prepare a catalyst system. The catalyst system in the polymerization of 1,3-butadiene (BD) or isoprene produces high cis polydiene with a high activity (100 g BD/4.0×10−5 mole Nd) and without gel formation. The polydiene thus obtained is useful for tires and golf balls and as a polystyrene modifier.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 2002Date of Patent: January 14, 2003Assignee: Korea Kumho Petrochemical Co., Ltd.Inventors: Gwang Hoon Kwag, Seung Hwon Lee, Young Chan Jang, A Ju Kim
