Patent number: 6557341Abstract: In an exhaust system for an internal combustion engine having two groups of cylinders with a separate exhaust line for each cylinder group, each including an upstream catalytic converter and a downstream catalytic converter and a control valve, a first transverse connection extending between the exhaust lines upstream of the upstream catalytic converters and a second transverse connection extending between the exhaust lines between the upstream and downstream catalytic converters, the valves are so arranged and controlled that, during warm-up, the exhaust gases from both cylinder groups flow through the upstream catalytic converter of one, and the downstream catalytic converter of the other exhaust line for rapid heat up of one of the catalytic converters in each of the exhaust lines.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 2002Date of Patent: May 6, 2003Assignee: DaimlerChrysler AGInventors: Guenther Bubeck, Normann Freisinger, Roland Kemmler, Martin Matt, Jens Quinten, Peter Struebel

Patent number: 6557342Abstract: An exhaust gas purifying system for an internal combustion engine mounted on an automotive vehicle. The exhaust gas purifying system may include an exhaust gas component concentration regulating device disposed in an exhaust gas passageway of the engine, for regulating concentrations of gas components in exhaust gas discharged from the engine such that the concentrations of carbon monoxide and hydrogen are respectively not more than 2.0% by volume and not less than 0.5 by volume and such that a volume concentration ratio of hydrogen/carbon monoxide is not smaller than 0.5, in a first exhaust gas condition in which air/fuel ratio of exhaust gas is within a range of from a rich value and a stoichiometric value.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2001Date of Patent: May 6, 2003Assignee: Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.Inventors: Katsuo Suga, Yasunari Hanaki, Maki Shimada, Hiroshi Akama, Motohisa Kamijo

Patent number: 6557343Abstract: In a partition wall arrangement for an exhaust gas pipe section including a partition wall including a main plate member separating the pipe section into two longitudinal passages, a reinforcing plate member is placed over and attached to a major surface of the partition wall member in a part adjacent to the upstream edge of the main plate member so that an improved durability is achieved through elimination of membrane vibrations. By providing an edge cover on the upstream edge of the partition wall, the partition wall can be protected from the adverse influences of the heat from the exhaust gas, and is reinforced even further.Type: GrantFiled: October 9, 2001Date of Patent: May 6, 2003Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Shigeru Furudate

Patent number: 6557344Abstract: The invention relates to a hydraulic drive with a plurality of hydraulic consumers also comprising a differential cylinder which are located in particular on a plastics injection-molding machine. There are a first hydraulic machine and a second hydraulic machine, which can both operate as pump and as motor. A first of the two hydraulic machines is connected to a tank by means of a second port and rests against a pressure line by means of a first port, which pressure line can be connected to that working chamber of the differential cylinder which is remote from the piston rod via a shut-off valve. The second hydraulic machine is likewise connected to the pressure line by means of a first port and can be connected, by means of a second port, to a tank via a nonreturn valve which opens toward the second port and to the piston-rod-side working chamber of the differential cylinder via a shut-off valve.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 2001Date of Patent: May 6, 2003Assignee: Bosch Rexroth AGInventor: Reiner Püschel

Patent number: 6557345Abstract: An integrated cooling system for a turbocharger, suitable for an internal combustion engine. A cooling air shroud surrounds a portion of an interstage duct in a two-stage turbocharger, and may also surround a part of the outlet from the turbocharger. A fan on a turbocharger shaft is driven by the turbocharger turbine to draw air into the cooling air shroud, and pass the cooling air in heat exchange relationship with compressed air flowing through the turbocharger. The fan may also be used to precompress air compressed in the turbocharger.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2001Date of Patent: May 6, 2003Assignee: Caterpillar IncInventor: Mark D. Moeckel

Patent number: 6557346Abstract: The invention relates to a gas conducting device for internal combustion engines, notably motor vehicle engines, comprising a pressure line (5), a fresh-gas line (2) supplying fresh gas, a discharge line (4) and an orifice (1) which opens into the fresh gas line (2) and the discharge line (4). At least the pressure line (5) and the orifice (1) are connected via a control element (60-69) for the metered addition of gas. A compensating unit (61; 61A; 62; 62A; 63; 80; 81; 82; 84; 85; 86; 89) is provided for so as to compensate forces which act on the control element (60-69) as a result of a pressure difference (p5-p3; p3-p2) between the gas pressure on the compressed gas side (p5; p3) and the fresh gas side (p3; p2).Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 2001Date of Patent: May 6, 2003Assignee: A.
