Abstract: A card (10) for use as a telephone authorization card or the like is comprised of a layer of a backing material (20) such as a stiff plastic material which has some pliability. A thin sheet lenticular lens material (12) has a flat surface (14) on which is printed selected interlaced images. On the other side of the lens material is formed a plurality of lenticules (16) through which the images are viewed. The flat side of the lenticular material is secured to one face (22) of the backing in a convenient manner. A cutting tool is now used to form an opening (32) in the outer face of the lenticules and a programmed microchip (30) is inserted in the opening and secured in place. On the outer face of the backing material a magnetic strip (40) containing magnetically encoded indicia is secured. The card is usable in a reader (R) which can scan the magnetic strip and read information from the microchip to allow the user to place a telephone call or conduct other transactions.

The method has good mass-producibility, in which the pattern transferability on the substrates produced is good. In producing optical disc substrates having a diameter of from 80 to 120 mm and a thickness of from 0.5 to 0.7 mm, through injection molding or injection-compression molding, a resin for the substrates is injected and charged into the cavity of a mold at a resin filling rate of not lower than 65 cm3/sec, said resin filling rate being obtained by dividing the cavity volume (cm3) of the mold, into which the resin is charged, by the time (sec) taken from the start of resin injection through the tip of the nozzle of the injection-molding machine to the arrival of the resin at the deepest end of the cavity of the mold.

Abstract: A computer system includes an operator input device, a central processing unit (CPU), and a display device, such as a liquid crystal display (LCD) or cathode ray tube (CRT) providing a visible image to the computer user as an output of computer activity. The computer system includes a video display controller (VDC) with a graphics generator. This VDC receives image information, such as text or graphics generated by the CPU, or retrieved by the CPU from another facility (such as a CD-ROM) of the computer system, and responsively provides image signals driving the CRT or LCD display. The VDC includes a power saving controller implementing one of several available power saving modes dependent upon one or more of several possible inputs. Each of the power saving modes includes the same list of VDC functions which may individually be enabled or disabled in each power saving mode dependent upon a bit value entered into a register of the power saving controller.

A multiplexer circuit includes a plurality of inputs coupled to respective data terminals, and a plurality of output subgroups.

The rotation control circuit (50) includes a phase-comparison circuit (54) for comparing the phases of rectangular-wave pulses fr output from a VCO (25) and time standard signal fs, and a brake control circuit (56) for inputting, based on an output from the phase-comparison circuit (54), a signal for controlling the brake circuit (23) to voltage-controlled oscillator (25). By providing the VCO (25) and the phase-comparison circuit (54), PLL control is realized to enable a rapidly responsive system.

The internal printer controller is programmed to designate a document format according to a format command entered at the user interface. A data stream input port is in communication with the internal printer controller and is operative to receive a data stream. A document construction module is in communication with the internal printer controller. The document construction module enables the internal printer controller to (i) extract predetermined data fields from the data stream according to the designated document format and (ii) convert the extracted data fields to document data. A document data printing mechanism is responsive to the internal printer controller and is operative to print the document data in the designated document format.

Abstract: A process for feeding an animal a diet which alters the function and morphology of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), a large lymphoid organ in the animal and which improves glucose metabolism, satiety, and nutrient absorption. The process involves feeding a companion animal such as, for example, a dog or cat a diet of a pet food composition containing fermentable fibers which have an organic matter disappearance (OMD) of 15 to 60 percent when fermented by fecal bacteria for a 24 hour period, the fibers being present in amounts from about 1 to 11 weight percent of supplemental total dietary fiber. The animal is maintained on the diet for a sufficient period of time to allow the fermentable fibers to ferment in the GIT of the animal.

Abstract: In a scanning-type projection exposure system, curvature of a movable mirror that is used to measure mask stage coordinate positions is determined while the mask stage is moved in the scanning direction, by measuring coordinate positions, perpendicular to the scan direction, of the mask stage and of a mask mark elongated in the scan direction. The results of the measurements are used for correcting or compensating positional deviation during scanning. Rotational deviation of a mask pattern area is determined and is corrected or compensated. Also, a mask is aligned with respect to a coordinate system of the mask stage as pre-processing for exposure, using a mask alignment mark having two crossing linear patterns and determining a coordinate position of the crossing point by moving the mask relative to an observation area.

Abstract: A photoresist laminate includes a substrate (such as PET film having a thickness of between about 0.002-0.003 inches) with first and second faces, a first film layer, and a second layer. The first film layer is a photoresist material (radiation sensitive) which is soluble or dispersible in water but which will harden upon sufficient exposure to radiation so as to become substantially insoluble or non-dispersible. The first film layer may be of any conventional photoresist material (e.g. having a thickness of about 0.002-0.009 inches) and is operatively disposed on the substrate first face (either directly connecting it or connected to a membrane support layer which in turn is directly connected to the substrate first face). The second layer is of a material and thickness so that it substantially prevents sticking of the first film layer to other surfaces, while not significantly interfering with the radiation sensitivity thereof.

Abstract: An electronic quick change cartridge for a welding helmet. The cartridge base is formed of an optically dense polycarbonate or like material that acts as a passive filter to provide eye protection during the welding process. A port in the base receives a variable density LCD cell and a cavity formed in the base receives the electronics for driving the cell. Optical masks prevent light leakage through any interfaces of the structure. When low light levels are present, the welder views a work piece through an essentially transparent or slightly opaque LCD cell. When an arc is struck, the LCD cell darkens to a shade corresponding to the shade of the surrounding polycarbonate material. The welder then can view the work piece through the LCD cell and all the optically unobstructed portions of the polycarbonate base surrounding the LCD cell thereby to have an expanded viewing area during the actual welding operation.

The front of the vest has a first side and a second side which are selectively connectable, such as with a zipper, a flap and/or one or more straps. The shell including first and second arm openings located opposite one another and a neck opening. The shell has an exterior and an interior, and a lower portion generally opposite the neck opening. A lining is connected to the shell and located at the interior thereof. At least one upper weight pocket is located at the interior of the shell adjacent one of the arm openings. At least one lower weight pocket is located at the interior of the shell near the lower portion of the shell. Each pocket includes an opening into which a weight may be placed, the opening selectively closeable for retaining said weight therein.

A soft leather glove has a thumb compartment, an index finger compartment, a middle finger compartment, a ring finger compartment and a small finger compartment, each of the finger compartments having palm sides and back sides and fingertip ends, and a main opening for insertion of a user's hand. Each of the index, middle and ring finger compartments have a strip of hook fastener material attached to the palm side and the back side thereof. The thumb compartment and the small finger compartment are devoid of strips of hook fastener material so that the loop backed sanding pad of any desired shape can be attached to at least one of the strips of hook fastener material to facilitate sanding. The thumb and small finger compartments are free of hook fastener material to facilitate the user's ability to grip and manipulate objects without removal of the glove.

This device comprises a visor having guides adjustably engaged in a series of flanks of a table wherein there is a hole or opening for a hooking element which is adjustable within an eyelet disposed on the table. There is also a slide integral in the table having an eyelet wherein a bush translates, which is coaxially anchored to a hooking block and a sheet like spring anchored to a side and in touch with the bush to put a pressure on the bush. This pressure keeps the bush in contact with the block within the opening of the visor.

An inner side of the base has two L-like clicking protruding bodies, which can be inserted to the C-like groove. A clicking gear is formed on the base plate at a bottom rim corresponding to the protruding body of the base.

Abstract: The present invention provides a lightweight protective ear guard which relies on an outer air cushion created between a semi-rigid inner shell and a resilient outer shell to provide a multi-level degree of shock absorbency and protection for the ears. The wearable structures comprising a pair of ear guards connected by a plurality of adjustable strap members are provided for particular use by wrestlers to protect their ears from injury due to contact with wrestling surface and other wrestlers.

Abstract: A process for disposing of human wastes in an efficient and environmentally or pathologically safe manner, a grindable container for collecting human wastes and a crushing machine for said containers. The container is made of a grindable, biodegradable material such as cellulose pulp and is designed to hold human wastes without any leaks or cracks. The container is formed by an upper portion and a lower portion, both comprising corresponding snap-in peripheral engaging flanges for engaging one to the other without the use of gluing products and comprising a anti-slipping surface finish for avoiding slippage of the container during usage and designed for comfortable human skin contact. The crushing machine is designed to be used at any health-care or rest-home center and is adequate for dumping the final product into a sewer system in an environmental caring manner.

Abstract: A bed to wheelchair transfer assist device to be mounted to a bed frame to aid either a disabled individual in transferring himself from a seated position on a bed into a wheelchair or a pain suffering individual when raising and lowering his upper torso between prone and seated positions. When the individual wishes to transfer into the wheelchair or raise or lower his torso, he inserts a removable swan shaped handle of the device into a base. Once inserted in the base, the handle lends a firm support which allows the individual to either push himself off the bed or raise and lower his torso, as required. After the individual has repositioned his body, the handle is removed from the base and placed at an out of site location near the bed. The assist device includes a U-shaped clamping member that is coupled to the base and easily hooked over the existing rail of the bed frame.

Abstract: A storable bed assembly primarily for recreational vehicles permits the lowering and raising of the bed using a pair of rear guides fixed to a wall of the recreational vehicle, and a pair of swing arm guides at the front corners of the bed frame. Linkages are provided to couple the corners of the bed frame to the guides. Counterbalancing springs in the form of compressed gas cylinders are provided to assist in raising the bed assembly to the stored position.

This sleeping apparatus also includes a blanket portion coupled to the panel in a manner to define an internal sleeping space.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for obtaining mammographic images of a human patient's breast and subsequently obtaining tissue samples for biopsy includes a deck having one or more of access sites, with the deck elevated above a floor or other supporting surface and capable of supporting the patient thereon. The deck includes a frame and may include one or more filler sections occupying respective access sites when closed. The filler sections are preferably positioned to provide one or more access sites on each side of the deck when opened, the access sites being sized to accommodate a technician or mammography device therein. The deck may include a central, longitudinally extending spine with cross-members extending perpendicular thereto. The filler sections can be removably or pivotally mounted on hinges or pivot pins to selectively shift out of the openings, such as by dropping or raising to a vertical orientation, to accommodate a mammography device or examiner.
