The circumferential width of each tooth formed on the toothed disk is preferably larger than the circumferential width of each tooth formed on the first gear, and the outer diameter of the toothed disk can be larger than the outer diameter of the first gear. The first gear and the toothed disk mesh with a second gear such that as the second gear rotates, the toothed disk and the first gear also rotate. However, the toothed disk and the first gear rotate at different speeds because the difference in the number of teeth formed thereon. Abstract: In a high-speed fabrication process for producing highly uniform ultra-small metallic micro-spheres, a molten metal is passed through a small orifice, producing a stream of molten metal therefrom. A series of molten metal droplets forms from the break up of the capillary stream. Applied harmonic disturbances are used to control and generate satellite and parent droplets. Significantly, the satellite droplets formed are smaller than the orifice, allowing for the production of smaller metal balls with larger orifices. The satellite droplets are separated from the parent droplets by electrostatic charging and deflection or by aerodynamic or acoustic sorting. Preferably, the satellite droplets are cooled before being collected to avoid defects and achieve high uniformity of the resulting metal balls.

Abstract: The invention is a novel photo-induced method for converting large quantities of silver nanospheres into nanoprisms, the nanoprisms formed by this method and applications in which the nanoprisms are useful. Significantly, this light driven process results in a colloid with a unique set of optical properties that directly relate to the nanoprism shape of the particles. Theoretical calculations coupled with experimental observations allow for the assignment of the nanoprism plasmon bands and the first identification of two distinct quadrupole plasmon resonances for a nanoparticle. Finally, unlike the spherical particles from which they derive and which Rayleigh light scatter in the blue, these nanoprisms exhibit scattering in the red, permitting multicolor diagnostic labels based not only on nanoparticle composition and size but also on shape.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing rust-resistant, angular shot-blasting abrasives (>60 HRC) based on a Fe—Cr—C alloy. According to said method, a granulate consisting of an iron-chrome-carbon alloy is tempered to >60 HRC by subjecting it to a thermal treatment of greater than 900° Celsius in a reduced atmosphere. A stainless, hard material which can be reduced to angular granules is thus produced. This results in shot-blasting abrasives with excellent characteristics for treating the surface of workpieces consisting of stainless material, e.g. stainless steel, non-ferrous metal and natural stone.

When in use, the casing is wrapped around the shell of a drum. The ends of the casing overlap and are removably secured to one another with hook and loop fastening material. The sides of the casing are drawn taut around the rims of the drum with drawstrings. When not in use, the soft case may be rolled up and stored in a minimum of volume.

Abstract: A drumhead for use in a percussion instrument is composed of multiple (e.g., two or three) plies of synthetic resin films, which are laminated together and are brought into close contact with each other when stretched across the opening of a hollow cylinder of a drum, for example. At least one air evacuation hole is formed at the center of the backside synthetic resin film or in proximity to the center of the backside synthetic resin film. Therefore, when the drumhead is stretched outwardly along a diameter direction of the opening of the hollow cylinder of the drum, remaining air between the films can be reliably evacuated from the air evacuation hole towards the exterior of the drumhead. Thus, it is possible to reduce unwanted loss in transmission of vibration between the films of the drumhead when beaten; hence, it is possible to realize good sound quality in the drum.

Abstract: A percussion instrument head is composed of a synthetic resin film (e.g., a PET film) having a prescribed thickness, which is subjected to chemical etching using a prescribed solution (e.g., an alkali solution), thus processing at least one surface thereof to be rough. Irregularities are formed in substantially uniform sizes and dimensions on the rough surface of the film, wherein hydrolysis processing advances firstly on the surface of the film, which are gradually dissolved or decomposed. Thus, it is possible to simulate the exterior appearance and flexibility of the conventional natural-leather head, and it is possible to produce sharp and articulated sounds having balanced pitches (or intervals) when playing the percussion instrument head composed of the synthetic resin film, which can simulate the property of sound of the conventional natural-leather head. After completion of chemical etching, the film is coated with an epoxy resin, for example.

The exciting device (116, 116′) enables exciting oscillations of the string of a sufficiently large amplitude so that the sounding body (108) can radiate tones of a loudness which is at least in the range of known acoustical string instruments. For transferring the string's oscillations to the sounding body (108), a bridge (112) is arranged between the sounding body (108) and the at least one string (102).

Abstract: A mine detector is provided for detecting buried land mines safely and promptly. A sensor head (12) is connected to a detector body (1) through hinges (11-1 to 11-4) and arms (12-1 to 12-3). The sensor head (12) includes a transmitting and receiving means for emitting electromagnetic impulses to the ground within a range of detection of land mines. When the transmitting and receiving means receives electromagnetic waves reflected from a land mine, information on the three-dimensional structure of the land mine buried under the ground is generated on the basis of the time of arrival of the reflected wave, the level of the reflected wave and the x and y coordinates of the transmitting and receiving means, and the information is displayed on a display (1). The detector is also applicable to the inspection of steel rods and bars for concrete reinforcement.

Abstract: The invention is based on the concept of providing a digital data transmission of the fuze-timing data into a fuze-timable ammunition unit, for example with an HDB-3 (High-Density Bipolar) transmission code and voltage modulation. As is known from asynchronous data transmission, a start byte and a stop byte are respectively positioned in front of and behind the HDB-3 code, and are therefore components of the fuze-timing data. The fuze-timing time is transmitted numerically as a data byte between the start and stop bytes.

Abstract: A projectile firing gun or weapon barrel is adapted with a gas porting system having conduits and outlets specifically configured, positioned and adapted for maximizing reductions in muzzle jump and/or recoil in accordance with principles of reverse thrust. The conduits or flow tubes are contemplated to be configured to function as nozzles whereby varying the shape and size of the conduit walls can maximize the outlet velocity of gases flowing at subsonic as well as supersonic velocities and the stream of redirected gas flow can be concentrated. The system incorporates porting holes located further rearward than at the barrel muzzle, but at a proven safe distance from the barrel chamber, which porting holes are in fluid communication with gas conduits/nozzles.

The combat tank is converted by integrating retrofitted equipment necessary for the artillery observation, especially the navigation system (12), into the vehicle turret (4) such that it does not collide with the main gun.
