  • Patent number: 6674036
Abstract: The invention provides methods for marking packaged ICs. In a first embodiment, only the minimum performance information is first marked on the package, regardless of the actual performance of the IC. This method avoids a second marking step for all ICs sold as low-performance ICs. In another embodiment, only one inking and curing step is required for all ICs. According to this method, all specified performances are marked on the packaged IC at the first marking. The IC is then tested to determine the actual performance, and all performance markings not applicable to the IC are removed, preferably with a laser. Alternatively, all applicable performance markings are identified (e.g., underlined or enclosed with a laser marking).

  • Patent number: 6674037
Abstract: A method and apparatus for transporting and sorting flowers or other stem-shaped or elongate products with a conveyor provided with arm-fork units which are moved along a transport path in a substantially horizontal plane. In one form, the method includes taking over a substantially vertically hanging flower from a take-over position with a fork at the end of the arm-fork unit remote from the conveyor. The flowers are transported along the transport path, with the arm-fork unit in a transport position, to an apparatus for bunching the transported flowers with generally several bunching stations. The transporting takes place in the plane along at least one detector for detecting at least one respective flower characteristic, whereby detection signals are obtained. The detection signals are processed in a processing unit into corresponding selection signals.

  • Patent number: 6674038
Abstract: In a network-based mail processing system and method of the invention, the originating presort bureau or node is defined as the first bureau to receive and process mail, usually near the point of creation. Each presort bureau or node in the network is generally also a destination bureau or node since each processes mail from other nodes for delivery to recipients in its respective region by the postal regional sorting centers associated with its destination codes. Interactive network processing enables higher density of sorts at destination nodes and reduces overall sorts, postage, and sort costs over non-interactive processing centers. The term “presort bureau” is used to connote a service bureau or any other entity which is a) part of the enterprise network, b) processes mail created and entered by itself or by mailers it services, and/or c) processes mail interactively with other network nodes. A similar network is described for mail-like items.

Abstract: A machine tool with a machine frame is disclosed. A first tool guide is provided on the frame to guide a tool to a first guide position. The first tool guide is a movable gantry carrier with a movable first sliding carriage. The tool guide can be moved with respect to the machine frame in a first plane along a first direction and in a second direction which is orthogonal with respect to the first direction. Furthermore, a second tool guide is provided on the machine frame to guide the tool to a second guide position. The second tool guide can be moved with respect to the machine frame in a second plane along a third direction and a fourth direction which is orthogonal to the third direction, independently of the first tool guide. Finally, a tool holder is provided on the machine frame to hold the machined part. The machined part is led between the first and the second guide positions of the tool. The second tool guide is a movable gantry carrier with a movable second sliding carriage.

Abstract: A process for forming metal components of controlled porosity by welding, in which a predetermined amount of metal elements (50) of oblong shape is introduced into a mold (10) in which it is distributed isotropically. The metal elements are then subjected to increasing pressure (P) until the component has its final shape. The walls of the mold are then held in position and an electric current (I) flows through the metal elements and welds them together by local melting at the points of contact due to the Joule effect.

Abstract: In an apparatus and a method for marking glass with a laser, the glass is first brought to a temperature above the transformation temperature of the glass. The glass is then acted upon by a laser pulse which produces a mark on the surface of the glass. The peak power of the laser pulse is preferably selected so that it is merely a thermal interaction with the glass surface which occurs. This has the advantage that the material properties of the marked glass remain unchanged compared with the unmarked product.

Abstract: In a system for the control of the quality of a laser cut or perforation, comprising means to focus a laser beam onto a cut or perforation zone, photodiode sensor means to detect the radiation emitted by the cut or perforation zone, and a control and processing electronic unit to process the signals emitted by said sensor means an optical filter is provided that is associated with said photodiode sensor means to select an optical band around 620 nm. The signal coming from said sensor means is acquired with a frequency comprised between 10 and 60 kHz and filtered with a band-pass filter between 7 and 16 kHz. In this way the control of the quality of the cut or perforation can be carried out on the basis of the sole signal thus processed, without the need of a comparison with the predetermined reference signal corresponding to a good quality cut or perforation.
