Abstract: An optical head reproduces optical disks of different disk plate thickness t1 (0.6 mm) or t2 (1.2 mm) by using light beams of two wavelengths and one object lens. An converging element comprises a central portion and outer portion, wherein the central portion has optimum design plate thickness of 0.6*t1 to t1 and the outer portion has optimum design plate thickness of 0.6 mm. By providing a step difference in the converging element, information can be recorded or reproduced for an information medium of disk plate thickness t1 and for an information medium of disk plate thickness t2, in a state having small side lobes. Alternatively, a step difference is provided in the object lens, and optical distance L2 from a second light source to a condensing optical system is set to 80 to 95% of optical distance L1 from a first light source to the condensing optical system. Alternatively, only light of first wavelength is shielded or diffracted in a ring-like shape.

The data stored on the optical disk and the encoded data may be components of vector arrays. As the light beam illuminates the rotating optical disk, the data stored on the disk is multiplied by the encoded data. The products of the multiplication are encoded in the reflected beam. A multiplicity of data is read out in parallel from the optical disk and simultaneously correlated with the encoded data. This comparison or correlation operation is performed on digitally encoded data utilizing convolution, or with analog encoding. The present invention can be utilized in pattern matching.

The node boards and the switch fabric boards routinely perform link integrity checks when operating in a normal mode such that each can independently initiate failover to working ports when a link failure is detected. Abstract: Managing cluster membership and providing and managing locks in the switches forming the interconnecting network. To manage the cluster membership, a zone is created, with indicated members existing in the zone and the zone being managed by the switches. The nodes communicate their membership events, such as alive messages, using an API to work with the switch to which they are attached. The desired membership algorithm is executed by the switches, preferably in a distributed manner. Each switch then enforces the membership policies, including preventing operations from evicted nodes. This greatly simplifies the programs used on the nodes and unburdens them from many time consuming tasks, thus providing improved cluster performance. In a like manner, the switches in the fabric manage the resource locks. The nodes send their lock requests, such as creation and ownership requests, to the switch to which they are connected using an API.

Abstract: A system and method for an auxiliary network for a peer-to-peer overlay network using autonomous system level topology. Using information available through the auxiliary network, expressway connections are established amongst expressway nodes and ordinary connections are established between ordinary and expressway nodes. The connections established is unconstrained and arbitrary. After the connections are established, efficient routing of information may take place.

Abstract: An audio conferencing method in a hybrid network. Input from a plurality of endpoints connected to an audio conference in the hybrid network is received in a media gateway. The media gateway converts the input to an MCU-usable format and selects input based on predetermined selection criteria. An MCU mixes the selected input with other selected input to form an output stream and a sum stream which are matched with the endpoints in the audio conference. The media gateway converts the output stream and the sum stream to an endpoint-compatible format which is returned to the endpoints in the audio conference. Audio conference participants can dial-out from the MCU to bring additional participants into the audio conference. Once established in the hybrid network, the audio conference supports full service audio conferencing. In addition, dynamic routing permits an operator to service multiple MCUs, and an audio conference participant and/or an entire audio conference to be moved between MCUs.

Abstract: A method of large-scale fault-tolerant audio conferencing in an audio conferencing system using a purely packet-switched network. An endpoint places a call to a conference gatekeeper indicating an audio conference. The conference gatekeeper determines whether the call contains sufficient information to establish the audio conference. If there is insufficient information, the endpoint is connected to an IVR server that obtains sufficient information from the endpoint. Either way, a CACS selects an MCU hosting or that will host the audio conference. The CACS then responds to the endpoint with routing instructions indicating the selected MCU and the endpoint connects or transfers to the selected MCU. The MCU mixes input from all endpoints in the audio conference to form a voice stream, which is then returned to each endpoint in the audio conference. Audio conference participants can dial-out from the MCU to bring additional participants into the audio conference.

Abstract: A code division multiple access communication system receiver includes block-based chip timing estimation. A chip timing estimate is generated from samples of a received signal by performing an averaging operation over a designated block of chips in each of first and second legs of an early-late synchronizer. The chip timing estimate is determined as a function of an error signal corresponding to the difference between outputs of the first and second legs, and is utilized to adjust a code generator clock or to otherwise control chip timing in the receiver. In an illustrative embodiment, a separate block-based chip timing estimator is implemented in each of the fingers of a Rake receiver.

Abstract: A synchronization signal is used in a wireless time division duplex communication system. The time division duplex communication system uses time slots in repeating frames for communication. The synchronization signal is transmitted from a base station to identify a code group associated with the base station. The synchronization signal comprises a spreading code associated with a selected base station. Binary bits identifying a code group associated with the selected base station are modulated by said spreading code using binary phase shift keying.

Abstract: An apparatus and method is disclosed for providing automatic quality of service (QoS) management in a wireless mobile station. The apparatus comprises a quality of service (QoS) controller that is capable of providing a radio link to a wireless network. The radio link has a set of quality of service (QoS) parameters that support transmission and reception of data packets in a protocol that requires the set of quality of service (QoS) parameters. The quality of service (QoS) controller comprises a processor and a memory that contains quality of service (QoS) management application program, a quality of service (QoS) database, and a radio link database. For data packets that have a quality of service (QoS) requirement, the processor (1) accesses a suitable radio link from the radio link database, or (2) creates a new radio link and adds the new radio link to the radio link database.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for transferring communication within a communications system. A target cell is identified to which to transfer communication from the RU. A cell reselection request to the target cell is then initiated for requesting transfer of RU communication from the source cell to the target cell. The RU disconnects from the serving cell and any data from the SGSN to the RU is buffered by the serving PCU. The serving PCU and the target PCU detect the occurrence of the cell change prior to the SGSN detecting the cell change. As a result, the buffered data is transferred from the serving PCU to the target PCU prior to the network detecting the cell change and prior to a FLUSH-LL message being transmitted from the SGSN to the serving PCU.

Abstract: A system and method for wireless communication includes multiplexing an EUDC downlink control channel so that it is transmitted like a downlink dedicated channel (DL-DPCH). The EUDC downlink control channel can be multiplexed with the DL-DPCH by code or by both code and time. The EUDC downlink control channel may be multiplexed with a downlink dedicated physical data channel (DL-DPDCH), a downlink dedicated physical control channel (DL-DPCCH), or both. In one embodiment, the EUDC downlink control channel is multiplexed by adding a multicode channel to a current DL-DPCH and treating the EUDC downlink control channel as a dedicated channel with power control functionality.
