Publication number: 20040126766Abstract: The present invention provides for assaying as few as a single microarray of a chemical array of microarrays at a time without contamination or damage to a remainder of the microarrays. A chemical array apparatus, system and method comprise a microarray attached to a surface of a planar substrate and a breakaway seal or barrier applied to the substrate surface to surround the microarray. The breakaway seal provides the microarray fluid isolation and is manipulatable. The system further comprises a cover extending over and in contact with the breakaway seal to cover the microarray. The method further comprises processing a microarray of the chemical array with a fluid, and breaking away a portion of the breakaway seal to create a gap. The gap releases the fluid in a direction away from remaining microarrays of the chemical array. A removable cover overlies a microarray on the chemical array apparatus.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 26, 2002Publication date: July 1, 2004Inventor: Douglas A. Amorese

Publication number: 20040126770Abstract: Disclosed are compositions and methods for amplification of RNA molecules. The disclosed method involves synthesizing first strand cDNA molecules from RNA molecules, circularizing the first strand cDNA molecules and replicating the circularized first strand cDNA molecules using rolling circle replication. The method can be aided by the use of specialized primers for cDNA synthesis and specialized probes for circularizing the first strand cDNA molecules. The method can be used to replicate and amplify multiple RNA molecules, such as all RNA molecules in a sample or all mRNA molecules in a sample, or be used to replicate and amplify specific RNA molecules. Rolling circle replication of the circularized first strand cDNA molecules results in long DNA strands containing tandem repeats of the cDNA sequence. The tandem sequence DNA can be used directly (for detection of sequences, for example), further amplified, or used any other purpose.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 31, 2002Publication date: July 1, 2004Inventors: Gyanendra Kumar, Patricio Abarzua

Publication number: 20040126813Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and systems for sorting a plurality of protein structures generated by a database search based upon their corresponding sequences. The methods and systems according to the invention are based upon computer generated graphical user interfaces that present to the user: i) a multiple sequence alignment of the sequences corresponding to the structures to be sorted; ii) the means to identify whether one or more of the sequences comprise homologous alignment domains; and iii) the means to select one or more sequences for subsequent processing of their corresponding structures. In another aspect of the invention, the user is presented one or more phylogenetic tree representations of user selected homologous alignment domains so that the user may quickly determine the evolutionary similarity of a family of homologous alignment domains.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 29, 2003Publication date: July 1, 2004Inventors: Derek A. Publication number: 20040126814Abstract: A sensor for detecting a target analyte using a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) that has been imprinted with the target analyte. The MIP may be used as a working electrode in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy by either coating a substrate or being pressed into a disk.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 16, 2003Publication date: July 1, 2004Inventors: Waheguru Pal Singh, Anthony Giletto, Jinseong Kim, Craig Andrews, Jerome Brown, Brian Watkins, Anuncia Gonzalez-Martin
