Abstract: Two opposite ends of a handrail stock member are joined to form a handrail having a closed-loop configuration for an escalator or the like. A slot is cut into each end, parallel to a longitudinal reinforcement layer of the handrail stock member. A joint reinforcement insert including longitudinally-oriented high-strength high-stiffness fibers is inserted into the two slots and the two ends are butted together. A thermoplastic matrix material of the handrail stock member in the joint area is heated to a softening or melting temperature and is press-molded to penetrate into the reinforcement insert and bond the insert to portions of the reinforcement layer overlapped by the insert. The matrix material is fused across the junction plane. A pressing mold maintains the defined outer contour of the handrail.

Abstract: In the disclosed method of fitting a fixed flush glazed window of a high-speed rail vehicle, a first edge of the window is first placed from the exterior of the vehicle in a groove situated on a horizontal portion of the window frame, after which the window is tilted to move the opposite second edge of the window toward the opposite horizontal portion of the window frame, and finally the opposite second edge is fixed to the opposite horizontal portion of the window frame from inside the vehicle. Thus there is no mechanical fixing to the horizontal portion of the window where the groove is located, so that it is no longer necessary to demount all of the interior fittings when changing a window, while fixing the other horizontal portion from the inside minimizes the width of the mastic. Furthermore, installation from the outside means that the window may be fitted independently of the position of the vehicle on the assembly line, since whether the interior fittings have been fitted or not is of no importance.

Abstract: A drying apparatus for drying articles such as clothing is provided. The drying apparatus includes a chamber for containing articles to be dried and a system for supplying heated dry air at a first temperature to the chamber. The air supplying system comprises an air flow pathway having an evaporator for removing moisture from air exiting the chamber and for decreasing the temperature of the air to below dew point temperature. The air supply system further has a condenser for increasing the temperature of the air exiting the evaporator to the first temperature. The drying apparatus further has a heat pump system having a refrigerant loop which includes a compressor, the condenser, a TEV valve, and the evaporator.

Abstract: An improved system and method for mounting an air dryer is provided. The improved system and method employs a single centralized special fitting that secures the air dryer manifold to a reservoir. The bore in which the fitting is disposed is used to communicate air from the reservoir to the air dryer in order to purge the desiccant in the air dryer. The mounting assembly includes anti-rotational mechanisms which prevent the air dryer from rotating about its axis. The mounting assembly may also include a reservoir and a mounting bracket for the reservoir which uses less than 75 percent of a truck mounting rail height.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for ensuring that cavities used to store radioactive elements are adequately dried without intrusive measuring. In one aspect the invention is a method of drying a cavity loaded with radioactive elements, the loaded cavity having a free volume (VF), a starting vapor pressure (vPS), and a cavity pressure (PC), the method comprising: determining a desired degree of dryness in the cavity in terms of a desired vapor pressure (vPD); cooling a non-reactive gas to a temperature (TC) thereby drying the non-reactive gas; introducing the dry non-reactive gas into the cavity so that the free volume VF of the cavity turns over X times; and removing wet non-reactive gas from the cavity; wherein TC and X are controlled to achieve the desired vapor pressure (vPD) in the cavity. Alternatively, a flow rate (R) can be controlled over time (t) instead of controlling X.

The shoe admission portion has an inwardly inclined lead-in surface extending toward the sole, and an overhang surface extending from the lead-in surface toward the sole portion. The overhang surface is adapted to form an undercut area so that a shoe to be held to the shoe cover first engages and slides along the inclined lead-in surface to resiliently expand the admission portion outwardly without being crushed, and then slides into engagement with the overhang surface to enter the undercut area. A length adjusting mechanism may be provided for adjusting the length of the sole.

Abstract: A pair of shoes that a person with corns or callous skin on their feet can wear and receive the same benefits as soaking his feet in a bowl of water, yet the person is not restricted to one place during the soaking treatment. The present soaking shoes include an inner sole that holds a small amount of water and allows the water to contact the bottoms of the wearer's feet. The inner sole holds water at a higher concentration than that of the wearer's feet. Thus, water molecules enter the skin of the wearer's feet through osmosis, just as if the wearer had soaked his feet in a bowl of water. The present shoes are comfortable to wear and can be provided with reinforced soles or porous uppers for ventilation.
