Abstract: The present invention provides a method for producing nano-sized Fe powder having a polymer coated layer on a surface thereof, so as to prevent the nano-sized Fe powder from being oxidized under atmosphere. The method includes: gasifying an iron pentacarbonyl (Fe(CO)5) or an iron acetate ((CH3CO2)2Fe) precursor in a ceramic bubbler; forming nano-sized Fe particles due to the crystallization of Fe gas while mixing the gasified precursor with Ar gas in a reactor; and precipitating the nano-sized Fe particles in a polymer solution in a chamber, before the nano-sized Fe particles are oxidized. According to this technique, Fe powder on the order of tens of nms in size, and having a polymer coated layer, are obtained from the Fe precursor. A system for producing the nano-sized Fe powder is also disclosed.

Abstract: An improved device for the removing of damaged fasteners comprising a socket head having a partly cylindrical external configuration the upper end adapted to receive the end of a turning tool. The major recess has an interior surface formed with a plurality of inverted L-shaped frustroconical projections and depending on the need the location of the apex of the teeth can be altered to create more torque. The angle of each tooth is currently 98 and 105 degrees with a recess at the bottom of each leg. Each tooth has two faces of uncommon lengths. The apex of each tooth is angularly oriented with respect to the axis of the cylinder. The axial interior of the major recess has a smaller diameter than the axial exterior of the major recess whereby when the socket head is rotated with a ratchet motion, the teeth will pull downwardly over the damaged fastener and bite into its exterior surface of the fastener to effect its removal.

The shaft is a hollow quill shaft an outer diameter of which is splined to receive a torque drive input at a location axially spaced from the drive head. A central shaft extends from the drive head centrally up the quill shaft and a flexible cantilever beam is mounted between a cranked end of the central shaft as it extends out of the quill shaft and the corresponding end of the quill shaft. • Publication number: 20050150336
Abstract: A piston mounted in a tool body is perpendicularly movable relative to the tool's longitudinal axis. A tool bit mounted on the piston protrudes perpendicularly away from the tool's body, relative to the longitudinal axis. A coupler rotatably and drivingly couples the tool to a line boring machine. The machine is operated to rotate and longitudinally move the tool along the longitudinal axis into a work piece bore, to position the rotating tool bit's cutting tip adjacent a selected internal circumferential portion of the work piece. Pressurized hydraulic fluid is then controllably applied to the piston, through the tool, to perpendicularly outwardly advance the piston relative to the longitudinal axis, forcing the rotating cutting tip into the work piece to cut a snap-ring groove. A spring mounted between the body and the piston biases the piston toward the longitudinal axis, retracting the tool bit when the fluid pressure is relieved.

Abstract: A family of stringed musical instruments has improved tonal quality. The top plate is cylindrically curved parallel to the strings, and the back plate is cylindrically curved along an axis perpendicular to the strings. The transverse braces supporting the top plate are scalloped, leaving substantial air gaps along the glue line once the brace is attached. The back plate is supported by a substantial longitudinal brace, or spine, which runs down its center parallel to the strings. The spine contains a substantial portion of the mass of the back plate. The spine and braces are produced as a laminate, with spruce surrounding a core of ebony. These musical instruments have improved harmonic generation over common instruments, and therefore have a more complex and pleasing tone than common instruments. In addition, there is little spatial variation for the harmonics produced by these musical instruments.

Abstract: A stringed musical instrument having a pickup system including at least one dual coil pickup, each coil having first and second end terminals and at least one tap to a portion of the coil between the first and second end terminals. A first or mode switch selectively connects first and second output terminals of a pickup circuit to (a) the first end terminals of both coils, (b) the first and a second end terminals of one of the coils, and (c) the at least one tap of both coils. Selection (c) allows for a selection of less than two full coils. The musical instrument includes additional pickups and a second or pickup selector switch to selectively connect the pickups and the first switch to the first output terminal of the pickup circuit.

Abstract: An electronic percussion instrument includes input means, comparison means, and musical tone generation control means. The input means allows for the input of a vibration of a head section and a vibration of a rim section that have been detected by a striking detection section. The comparison means allows for a comparison of a size of the vibration of the head section and a size of the vibration of the rim section. The musical tone generation control means allows for controlling a generation of a musical tone based on a result of a comparison by the comparison means such that the musical tone corresponds either to the vibration of the head section or to the vibration of the rim section. In those cases where the musical tone corresponds to the vibration of the rim section, the generation of the musical tone can be further controlled.

Abstract: A CM system for the defense of aircraft against missile attack leverages nanocrystal technology to provide safe and reliable protection. The CM system generally includes one or more ground-based laser emitter subsystems, one or more ground-based Doppler-sensitive radar subsystems, an aircraft-based nanocrystal dispenser subsystem, and an engagement control subsystem that governs the operation of the CM system. In response to the detection of a missile within an attack envelope, the engagement control subsystem instructs the dispenser subsystem to release nanocrystals into an area proximate the aircraft. In addition, the engagement control subsystem instructs one or more of the laser emitter subsystems to direct an excitation signal at the dispensed nanocrystal “cloud” to thereby cause the nanocrystals to emit infrared radiation that approximates that of jet engine exhaust.

Abstract: A thrust device, in particular for a roller cam mechanism in a steering system, includes a first mechanism member which is held on a frame in engagement with a second mechanism member. The thrust device comprises a pressure piece which is mounted on the frame so as to be displaceable along an axis and is acted on by a spring element for pressing the first and second mechanism members against one another. In order to construct the thrust device for compensating for wear and thermal expansion of the engagement of the mechanism members and to configure it to be inexpensive and quiet during operation, there is provision for the spring element to be formed from rolling bodies which are spring loaded approximately transversely with respect to the axis of the pressure piece, the rolling bodies being supported on oblique surfaces between the pressure piece and a frame part which is configured as a setting screw or cover. The pressure piece can additionally be spring loaded axially by a compression spring.

Abstract: The invention relates to a piston-pin bearing for an internal combustion engine wherein a cylindrical piston pin (8) is mounted. The inventive piston-pin bearing is provided with an improved form of hub bore in comparison with prior art, significantly reducing mechanical stress in said piston and therefore resulting in a longer service life for said piston. Said form also avoids the formation of noise in the piston-pin bearing. According to the invention, this is achieved by providing the lateral surface (5) of the hub bore (2) with a highly oval shape along the entire axis of the hub in the equatorial-zenith-equatorial area of said hub, corresponding to the parameter representation of an oval x=b/2×cos }; y=a/2×sin}for 0o==180o, and by providing it with a circular cylindrical shape in the equatorial-nadir-equatorial region of the hub, whereby a: large oval diameter; b=D: small oval diameter; D: diameter of the cylindrical hub; : the angle forming any particular unlimited line counter to the z axis.
