Abstract: A water-preventing grommet for a pull chain switch has a cylindrical body with an abutting end and an inclined distal end, a recess defined in the abutting end, a downward passage defined in the inclined distal end to communicate with the recess. The inclined distal end has a flat inclined face, a top extending portion and a bottom guiding portion. The downward passage in the inclined distal end extends to the bottom guiding portion. When the grommet is placed in at a right position, the top extending portion shades the downward passage from rain drops. Meanwhile, the downward passage also eliminates water up-flow to keep water away from the pull chain switch.

Abstract: The present invention provides a balance assembly for use with a sash window assembly slidable within a master frame. The balance assembly generally includes a plate, a spring assembly, and a brake shoe or pivot brake assembly. The plate is removably connected to the master frame. The spring assembly includes a first spring that is inter-wound or nested within a second spring. Each spring has a coiled portion, an intermediate portion, and a free portion. The coiled portions of the springs are rotatably supported by the support member that extends from the plate. The free portions of the springs have a curved configuration and are received by a slot in the brake shoe, which is operably coupled to the sash window. The inter-wound springs exert a balancing force on the sash window during movement of the window.

Abstract: A hinge apparatus generally includes a hinge pin formed of a two-way shape memory alloy (SMA) adapted to transition, without an externally applied load, between a first trained shape and a second trained shape upon switching the two-way SMA between a first state and a second state. The hinge pin can apply two-way reversible actuation forces to a device coupled to the hinge apparatus. The hinge pin can be produced by thermal cycling a material under a sufficient load for a sufficient number of thermal cycles between about the material's austenite and martensite temperatures to complete training of the material. The thermal cycling conditions the material to transition, without an externally applied load, between an austenitic shape and a martensitic shape to perform useful work when the material is thermally cycled between the austenite and martensite temperatures.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a port cover for a system integrated into a structure for injection of a material into one or more cavities in the structure includes a base for coupling to the structure. The base includes one or more ports for injection of the material into the one or more cavities in the structure and one or more slots. The port cover also includes a cover for removably coupling to the base, the cover including one or more tabs each adapted to engage with a corresponding slot of the base. The cover also includes a locking mechanism for removably securing the cover to the base to prevent unauthorized access to the one or more ports. The locking mechanism is adapted to engage a projection of the base to removably secure the one or more tabs of the cover in engagement with the one or more corresponding slots of the base to removably secure the cover to the base to prevent unauthorized access to the one or more ports.

Abstract: Improvements in material-to-material connections are provided. For example, metal-to-metal connections are improved, such as the interface connection between a dental handpiece bur tube (10) and a component such as a bearing (12). At least one marking, such as a laser marking (20) is provided such that an amount of excavate material (21) is excavated from the marking (20). When a component such as a bearing (12) is positioned upon the bur tube (10), a portion of the excavate material (21) is physically impinged between the two components (10, 12) filling any spaces or gaps therebetween.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing a bevel gear member, comprises the steps of providing a bevel gear blank having a gearhead, forming gear teeth on the gearhead of the bevel gear blank by simultaneously cutting gear tooth top land, gear tooth side profile and a bottom land to form an unfinished bevel gear member using a face hobbing process, and machining at least one selected surface of the unfinished bevel gear member using the top lands of said gear teeth as a datum for centering the unfinished bevel gear member, thus forming a finished product. The method is applicable for manufacturing the bevel gear member both with shaft axially extending from the gearhead and without the shaft. The bevel gear members manufactured with this method exhibit reduced runout and require simpler, less expensive tooling.

Abstract: A mold for a battery, such as a secondary battery, and a method of molding a battery, such as a secondary battery, using the mold, uses a minimum amount of a molding substance, such as a resin, has its molding time shortened, and has a safety vent of a can being prevented from being fractured by high pressure during a molding process. Runners, through which a resin flows, are arranged parallel to cavities and the safety vent of the can is positioned closest to the gates, into which a resin is injected after the can and a protective circuit board are seated in the cavities. Due to the structure of the runners of the mold and the location of the safety vent of the can, the amount of resin used and the molding time are reduced. A fracture of the safety vent is avoided since a lower pressure occurs at the location closest to the gates during a resin filling process.
