  • Patent number: 6991850
Abstract: An improved load leveling yarn has a force-displacement profile that maintains desirable properties of previously known yarns (as exemplified in U.S. Pat. No. 5,830,811), but exhibits a lower elongation at a stress that is greater than the IBS but less than or equal to 1.8 grams/denier. Especially preferred yarns are produced from PET with an IV of greater than 0.9 and epsilon caprolactone (at a ratio of about 90:10) under copolymerization conditions that allow reaction of at least 95% of the added epsilon caprolactone. Such yarns can then be formed into a web to form specific products, and especially seat belts.

  • Patent number: 6991851
Abstract: A dry-strippable coating composition can be incorporated into a composite article and comprises a dried water-borne polyurethane dispersion including a release additive comprising a releasing co-solvent or other selected release material. When water is removed from the polyurethane dispersion of the composite article and when the article comprises a thermoformable substrate, the article can be thermoformed to provide a shaped article. Dry-stripping the coating composition from the substrate provides a thermoformed substrate and a thermoformed protective layer. The dry-strippable coatings provide temporary protection for the surface of various products and components during manufacture, assembly, shipping, installation, painting, and refinishing operations.

  • Patent number: 6991853
Abstract: A blank used for machining customized prosthetic components is provided which includes a prefabricated seating surface, normally shaped as an anti-rotation device, used to seat the component in the corresponding implanted, or natural, surface in the patient's body. Prosthetic components need to be custom manufactured because each patient presents a different need, however, the standardized shape of seating surfaces allows for these to be machined in large scale, without affecting the quality of the treatment the patient receives. Once the customized manufacturing has been completed around the seating surface, the part requires no further machining and is ready to be used.

  • Patent number: 6991854
Abstract: A gold (Au) alloy bonding wire for a semiconductor device is provided. The Au alloy bonding wire is manufactured by adding at least one of polonium (Po), promethium (Pm), thulium (Tm), and boron (B) to high-purity gold of 99.999% or more in an amount of 3–30 parts per million (ppm) by weight and at least one of magnesium (Mg), sodium (Na), vanadium (V), molybdenum (Mo), and technetium (Tc) in an amount of 3–30 ppm by weight to the high-purity gold. In the Au alloy bonding wire, high-temperature reliability after ball bonding is not reduced and damage near a ball neck in forming an ultra low loop of the Au alloy bonding wire can be prevented.

  • Patent number: 6991855
Abstract: Reactive foils and their uses are provided as localized heat sources useful, for example, in ignition, joining and propulsion. An improved reactive foil is preferably a freestanding multilayered foil structure made up of alternating layers selected from materials that will react with one another in an exothermic and self-propagating reaction. Upon reacting, this foil supplies highly localized heat energy that may be applied, for example, to joining layers, or directly to bulk materials that are to be joined. This foil heat-source allows rapid bonding to occur at room temperature in virtually any environment (e.g., air, vacuum, water, etc.). If a joining material is used, the foil reaction will supply enough heat to melt the joining materials, which upon cooling will form a strong bond, joining two or more bulk materials.

Abstract: Interference pigment flakes and foils are provided which have color shifting properties. The pigment flakes can have a symmetrical coating structure on opposing sides of a reflector layer, can have an asymmetrical coating structure with all of the layers on one side of the reflector layer, or can be formed with encapsulating coatings around a core reflector layer. The coating structure of the flakes and foils includes a reflector layer, a dielectric layer on the reflector layer, and a titanium-containing absorber layer on the dielectric layer. The pigment flakes and foils exhibit a discrete color shift so as to have a first color at a first angle of incident light or viewing and a second color different from the first color at a second angle of incident light or viewing.
